The Trouble with Dukes

The Trouble with Dukes by Grace Burrowes is $99c! There seems to be some Beauty and the Beast elements to this, with an intimidating hero and a heroine who doesn’t mind all of his scary gossip. This begins the new Windham Brides series. Some of the readers thought everything was wrapped up too quickly, but others loved the heroine. Have you read this one?
THEY CALL HIM THE DUKE OF MURDER…
The gossips whisper that the new Duke of Murdoch is a brute, a murderer, and even worse—a Scot. They say he should never be trusted alone with a woman. But Megan Windham sees in Hamish something different, someone different.
No one was fiercer at war than Hamish MacHugh, though now the soldier faces a whole new battlefield: a London Season. To make his sisters happy, he’ll take on any challenge—even letting their friend Miss Windham teach him to waltz. Megan isn’t the least bit intimidated by his dark reputation, but Hamish senses that she’s fighting battles of her own. For her, he’ll become the warrior once more, and for her, he might just lose his heart.

Taking It Easy by Erin Nicholas is 99c! This is the second book in her Boys of the Big Easy series, and the third book is also on sale for this prince. Though the books are available at all e-tailers, the sale is only showing up at Amazon for right now. This one has a bartender hero and a secret baby plot, but I do believe all of the books in this series have a single parent element.
Logan Trahan is one of the French Quarter’s hottest bartenders. A single, charming, sexy southern boy who’s proud to pour the best Pimm’s Cup in town. Yes, that’s his biggest accomplishment. So what?
Dana Doucet is a widowed mom of two who’s doing it all. And doing it well, thank you very much. But she had a moment — okay, an entire night — of weakness and gave in after, ironically, nine months of Logan’s naughty flirtations. And a couple of those Pimm’s Cups.
It was just one night, but now they’re stuck with each other forever. Or at least for the next eighteen years, eight months, and one week. Not that she’s counting.
Well, this is definitely big. But there’s no way it’s going to be easy.

Seduced by a Stranger by Eve Silver is 99c! This is a Gothic historical romance and the fifth in a series. The first in the series is FREE! There are mysteries and murder, but some readers were put off by how descriptive some of the crime scenes were.
Destitute and desperate, Catherine Weston accepts the summons from her childhood friend Madeline St. Aubyn to attend her at Cairncroft Abbey, a place of secrets, lies and murder. Madeline’s health is in a poor state and she is terrified of her cousin, Gabriel. But Gabriel has quite a different effect on Catherine, stirring longings and desires she believed long buried.
Gabriel St. Aubyn is haunted by the horrors of both his past and his present, horrors he conceals behind a remote, unapproachable facade. He is drawn to Catherine, but is determined to protect her from the tragedies that yet have claws sunk deep in his soul.
Then a young woman is found dead, and Madeline’s ravings point to a link between this horrific crime and Gabriel—and Catherine must decide if he is a man worthy of her love or a sinister stranger determined to make her his next victim.

Beware the Wild by Natalie C. Parker is 99c! This is described as a young adult Southern Gothic, which might be catnip for some of you. Readers loved the creepy setting, though found things seemed to be dipped in crazysauce later on. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads. It’s also the first in a series, but I didn’t see any cliffhanger warnings.
There’s something about the swamp in Sticks, Louisiana. Something different, something haunting . . . something alive. Everyone knows this, and everyone avoids going near it. And even the Mardi Gras–bead-decorated fence that surrounds it keeps people away.
Until one morning when Sterling Saucier’s older brother Phineas runs into the swamp . . .
And doesn’t return.
Instead, a girl named Lenora May climbs out in his place, and all of a sudden, no one in Sticks remembers Phin at all. They treat Lenora May as if she’s been Sterling’s sister forever.
Sterling needs to figure out what the swamp’s done with her beloved brother and how Lenora May is connected to his disappearance—but first she’s got to find someone who believes her.
Heath Durham might be that someone. A loner shrouded behind rumors of drug addiction, Heath has had his own strange experience with the swamp. He and Sterling will have to piece together enough bits of memory and ancient swamp lore to get to the truth. But as the wild swamp encroaches on their town, Sterling and Heath may find a lot more than they expected . . . and Phin may be lost to them forever.

The Eve Silver books are unconnected to one another, so there’s no danger starting with Book 5 and collecting the others at leisure if you like that one.
The second book in Rachel Aaron’s DFZ series, PART-TIME GODS, is out today. It’s not on sale but it is in Kindle Unlimited.
Beware the Wild is 11.99 CAD
Taking It Easy (the Erin Nicholas title above) is really more an unplanned baby than a secret baby book – the dad finds out fairly quickly; they keep it somewhat secret from various groups as the plot progresses, but not in the “secret baby” trope sense. It’s a fun series and carries the same small-town feel of the author’s other series to the New Orleans setting of this series.
I really enjoyed Beware the Wild but so much crazysauce. (Without spoilers: disappearing twin! Magic swamp!) It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, if that’s helpful.
