Adventures in BigStock: Paranormal Day Jobs

BigStock reached out to us about featuring their portfolio in our entries, and we had so much fun exploring, we wanted to share some entertaining collections of images. There are some seriously talented photographers at work in stock imagery, too.

There’s also a lot of gold to be mined when it comes to stock photos. Every month, we’d love to share with you some great, beautiful, or downright silly things we’ve come across on BigStock.

This month’s theme: Paranormal Day Jobs

Being a vampire, a shifter, a witch, or any other supernatural being isn’t really a job. Sucking blood and casting spells doesn’t pay the bills and when the rent is due, it doesn’t matter that you can shapeshift into an 8-foot werewolf.

Vampire: Some vampires have the ability to hypnotize or glamour people, which is essentially the equivalent of having “bartender face.” Plus, drinking a glass of dark red liquid at a bar wouldn’t be too out of place.

Adorable woman in her dress shop. She's holding a pencil in her hand and a pink dress is displayed on a mannequin in the background.

Witch: The right outfit can make us feel confident, sexy, or secure. Well, you can thank a fashion witch for that! Assertiveness for a job interview? Comfort for homesickness? A pop of sex appeal for a date? Using magical thread, they can imbue any garment with whatever you need.

Werewolf: Of course werewolves are going to work with dogs. If you need your canine trained in any sort of capacity (agility, obedience, or hunting), you’d be hard-pressed to find a better instructor than a werewolf. Just try not to get jealous that you’ll probably never have the kind of bond your dog has with its trainer.

Siren: With the gift of enchanting people with their voice, going into the music industry is the best fit! A pop star who bewitches thousands of fans, a sultry cabaret singer who can set the mood, or just the energetic front woman to dive bar cover band are a few ways a siren can earn some cash. Hopefully, they can keep using their powers for good.

What day jobs could you picture being staffed by paranormal creatures?

There is a great song about a Siren who wants to be a singer: http://www.vixyandtony.com/lyrics_siren.html 😀

  2. Deianira says:

I would read an urban fantasy about any of these. Well, the werewolf one probably wouldn’t be urban, but anyway.

Also, I love the color of the siren’s dress!

I must say that I have always thought witches would make great bartenders. They’re good at mixing up potions and they could give you your hangover cure before you leave the bar.

Werewolves are also good for search and rescue teams, as well wilderness adventure guides.

Hugh from Meljean Brook’s Guardians series was a professor. Teaching seems like an excellent profession for the long lived or immortal. They’ve been there/done that and maybe actually knew the people who did that/wrote that/discovered that.

“What We Do in the Shadows” has an energy vampire character who is perfectly employed in a cubicle farm. They’d also do well at the DMV.

What a fun song, Steffi! Thanks for the link.
