    Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet

RECOMMENDED: Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. I enjoyed this sci-fi romance and gave this one a B+:

There’s a slow burn romance between two characters whom I came to adore, an exciting cast of secondary characters, and big secrets.

A delicious new heart-pounding romantic adventure from USA Today bestseller Amanda Bouchet!

Captain Tess Bailey and her crew of Robin Hood-like thieves are desperate and on the run. Pursued by a vicious military general who wants them dead or alive, Tess has to decide if she can trust Shade Ganavan, a tall, dark and arrogant stranger with ambiguous motivations.

Shade Ganavan had oodles of arrogance, oodles of charm, and oodles of something that made me want to kick him in the nuts.

What Tess and Shade don’t know about each other might get them killed…unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other—while ignoring their off-the-charts chemistry.

  • The Last

    The Last by Tawna Fenske

The Last by Tawna Fenske is 99c! This is a contemporary romance that was released this February. It’s also on the shorter side, FYI. This has a friends to lovers, marriage pact romance. Goodreads reviews say that this one was adorable, but should have been longer for the main couple to develop more of a romantic relationship.

Sarah Keating was sure she’d be married by 30. Husband, kids, the kick-ass career helping adults with Down Syndrome—she assumed she’d have it all, and there’d be no need to fall back on the marriage pact she made with her best pal from college.

But a tipsy message she sends from her birthday party brings Ian Nolan to her door ready to rock her world, and not just with mind-blowing sex. He’s up for tying the knot, and has a million pragmatic reasons it makes perfectly good sense.

As Sarah and Ian test drive their marriage-of-convenience, they navigate awkward business dinners, a slippery steam room hookup, and a costume party gone awry. Their friendship is stronger than ever, and the sexual chemistry is off the charts.

But is that enough to make a marriage work, or will one of them fall hard and end up brokenhearted?

  • Crazy in Love

Crazy in Love by Crystal Bright

Crazy in Love by Crystal B. Bright is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance between two musicians: an R&B singer and an aspiring country music star. However, as the description mentions, there seems to be an evil ex in the picture, which isn’t my favorite romance element.

R&B singer Chantel Evans had it all, until the Princess of Love Ballads lost everything. First, a very public betrayal by her lover and the death of her mother lead to a career-ending mental breakdown. Then, at the same time, her attorney makes off with all her hard-earned fortune. The only chance she has of resurrecting her career is in the recording studio her mother left in her name . . .

When struggling country star Truman Woodley has his recording duet with a sultry young singer fall flat at Chantel’s studio, Chantel is faced with a rare second chance—until Truman’s vindictive ex-girlfriend turns the pair’s sparkling debut into grounds for a custody battle over their son. But Chantel has discovered more than sweet vocal harmony with Truman. She’s found something worth fighting for. And when Truman surprises her with a kiss after a live television performance, the whole world will find out just what it takes to be crazy in love . . .

  • The Pact

    The Pact by Karina Halle

The Pact by Karina Halle is 99c at Amazon! This is another contemporary romance with a marriage pact between friends! If that’s your catnip, it’s your lucky day with book sales. While readers loved Halle’s writing, they warn that the couple spends more time apart than they preferred.

It all started with a pinky swear…

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.

Beautiful, funny and an ambitious businesswoman (with one hell of an ass), Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he’s known her.

But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them were in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounded like fun and games at the time but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.

Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.

The pact is about to change everything.

  1. Wait, what? says:

Does anyone know if the hero in Nightchaser is an alphahole? I read the first two of Amanda Bouchet’s Kingmaker series, and was just over the hero after that. I think what really tore it for me was when the heroine didn’t know she was pregnant and had to be told by the hero. Come to think of it, maybe the reason I didn’t finish that series was because I was over both of them …
Also, is there spanking in this book? I was over that too.

  2. @Amanda says:

@Wait, what?: If I recall, no spanking, and I wouldn’t describe the hero has being an alphahole.

  3. Wait, what? says:

@Amanda thanks! Maybe I’ll give this book a try. I’m on a sci-fi romance kick right now, and they’re kind of hard to find. I’ve reread the Dark Horse books by Michelle Diener and a Linnea Sinclair, but I’m always happy to find new series/authors

  4. Lu says:

@wait, what? No lie, that is ALSO why I haven’t picked up the third in the Kingmaker series either. I had some struggles with the hero in the first novel, but that really just clinched it for me in the second. Oh, you’re pregnant? Well… I don’t want you to change how you act, so… shhhh, no one let her know!
He kidnapped her. Held her hostage. FOR THE GOOD OF MY PEOPLE…. I don’t care. It honestly sounds like stockholm syndrome. Especially considering it’s more likely to occur in children (or adults) who were abused.
/rant. Apparently I was angrier about that than I realized.

  5. Susan says:

I enjoyed the first Kingmaker book enough to buy the second with a lot of anticipation, but I ended up DNFing it for the same reasons as the other commenters. I did pick up Nightchaser, but I’m wary.

And Diener’s Dark Horse/Class 5 books are comfort reads for me. We really do need more good SFR books!

  6. BellaInAus says:

I can’t decide. Is the cover model for The Last also the guy on Crazy In Love?

These are the big issues in my life.

  7. Jamie says:

Did anyone ask Tessa Bailey to blurb Nightchaser, do you think? 🙂

  8. kitkat9000 says:

@Wait, what?: Have you tried the Innkeeper series from Ilona Andrews? Starts with the younger sister for three novellas and has one novella with elder sister so far. All of them were available as serials on their website and the most reent one will probably be edited and released as an ebook this summer.

  9. The Other Kate says:

Yeah, the third book of the Amanda Bouchet’s trilogy has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now. Didn’t have a problem with the kidnapping because their relationship developed well, but him telling her she was pregnant killed my interest. I had this gut feeling that the third book was going to be all, “everything is different now, you must be protected and sheltered,” and I just didn’t want to read that.

On the other hand, strongly second the Innkeeper Chronicles rec!

  10. BKmeggie says:

Oh man, I read book 1 in the Kingmaker trilogy and couldn’t move forward. I still get mad about the kidnapping. I could have handled it if he had ever, just once, apologized! I feel like she gets gaslighted by everyone in that book (“he’s so nice to you! He’s such an incredible guy! He loves you! Why are you so mean to him!”) except for her circus friends. Anyway, I was very interested in Nightchaser but couldn’t bring myself to pull trigger on it after my feelings about Kingmaker but I’d someone can tell me that the heroine doesn’t get gaslit and the hero actually apologizes for his bullshit I’d be willing to try it. @wait, what? – I’m enjoying Polaris Rising which is sci fi romance. Also if you don’t mind trying YA sci fi/romance, the Starbound trilogy by Amie Kaufmann and Meagan Spooner is lovely (first book is called These Broken Stars And each book is a different couple).

  11. Michael I says:

    @The Other Kate

If it helps, there doesn’t seem to be much protecting or sheltering of the main female character in Book 3. A quick skim shows her definitely in the middle of the action.

  12. Wait, what? says:

    @kitkat9000 and @BKmeggie
Thanks for the recommendations! I have looked at both the Innkeeper books and Polaris Rising, but haven’t jumped so far Perhaps now I will!
I have read the first two of the Kaufman/Spooner books, and then sort of lost track of the series (probably because I’m cheap and the third one wasn’t on sale ) I did really enjoy them too, so maybe I’ll put the third one on my wish list!
I’m currently reading Rules of Redemption by T A White, which is supposed to be sci-fi romance, but it must be a very slow burn. But regardless, I’m enjoying it so far. What’s not to like about hot space elves?
