A Study in Honor

A Study in Honor by Claire O’Dell is $1.99 at Amazon! It’s full price elsewhere, so this could be a sign that the sale is ending soon. This is the first book in the Janet Watson Chronicles and is a reimagining of Holmes and Watson. Readers say the writing is really fantastic, but that the pacing and focus on characterization caused the mystery elements to drag.
Dr. Janet Watson knows firsthand the horrifying cost of a divided nation. While treating broken soldiers on the battlefields of the New Civil War, a sniper’s bullet shattered her arm and ended her career. Honorably discharged and struggling with the semi-functional mechanical arm that replaced the limb she lost, she returns to the nation’s capital, a bleak, edgy city in the throes of a fraught presidential election. Homeless and jobless, Watson is uncertain of the future when she meets another black and queer woman, Sara Holmes, a mysterious yet playfully challenging covert agent who offers the doctor a place to stay.
Watson’s readjustment to civilian life is complicated by the infuriating antics of her strange new roommate. But the tensions between them dissolve when Watson discovers that soldiers from the New Civil War have begun dying one by one—and that the deaths may be the tip of something far more dangerous, involving the pharmaceutical industry and even the looming election. Joining forces, Watson and Holmes embark on a thrilling investigation to solve the mystery—and secure justice for these fallen soldiers.

Pervade London by Vanessa Fewings is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a menage romance between a violinist and two mysterious British dudes. I am very interested, so if you’ve read it, I’d love your thoughts. Be warned, though, as it ends on a cliffhanger and the next book isn’t slated until August.
A ménage à trois romance between a female violinist and two mysterious British men with untold influence. Their love fuels the power that pervades London.
From an early age, Emily lived for the violin.
Practices were a joy. Recitals were a celebration. She only felt truly alive when the meticulously crafted, finely tuned, string instrument was in her firm grasp.
You could say that Emily lived for the violin, and that it was her true love. You would have been right…
…but that all changed the day she met Xander Rothschild.
Emily Rampling thought she understood the nature of power.
But she didn’t know the unexpected forms power could take, bending and adapting to suit its needs. She wasn’t aware of the ways power could infiltrate unnoticed into the highest echelons of government, soaking the most hallowed chambers with its influence.
She didn’t realize the methods in which power could weave an invisible fabric that manipulated society with hidden secrets and unannounced agendas.
In fact, Emily Rampling didn’t understand anything at all about the nature of power.
But she was about to find out.
About the ways power could pulse.
About the ways power could penetrate.
About the ways power could PERVADE.

Beneath a Rising Moon by Keri Arthur is 99c at Amazon! This is the first book in the Ripple Creek Werewolves series, a series that only has two books…so maybe it’s a duology? Readers enjoyed the werewolf world building and mythology, but Arthur fans felt this lacked the oomph of her other books and series.
Keri Arthur, the New York Times bestselling author of the Riley Jenson Guardian series, takes readers to the werewolf reservation of Ripple Creek—where moon fever runs high and a savage murderer runs rampant.
There’s no turning back for Neva Grant. To find a killer, she must seduce the boldest male in the Sinclair pack. Her twin sister lies in a hospital bed, fighting for her life, the fourth and only surviving victim of a vicious attacker. The werewolf rangers suspect the Sinclair pack, and the only way Neva can infiltrate their close-knit ranks is to unleash the wildness within and offer herself to Duncan Sinclair.
Duncan’s appetite for women is legendary on the reservation. But when this new woman stirs his hunger, he finds his desire for her goes deeper than anything he’s ever felt before. When he realizes that she’s playing a game and he’s taken the bait, he is determined to push her to the breaking point. As Duncan and Neva engage in a dangerous dance, they must somehow find a way to join forces—before a cornered killer bites back.

Crashed Out by Tessa Bailey is $2.99! This is the first book in the Made in Jersey series. Book two is also on sale and book three features a plus-size, husky hero. This one seems to reverse some common tropes, with the hero being the younger brother of the heroine’s best friend. The heroine is a blue collar worker and seven years older than the hero.
Jasmine Taveras is the reason Sarge Purcell grabbed his six-string and bailed the hell out of New Jersey four years ago. She’s the fuel for every song he’s ever written-each one laced with bitter, hard-edged, hungry lust. Now, with his hugely successful band on temporary hiatus, Sarge is determined to prove to Jasmine that this “kid” turned into every inch the man she’s always needed…
Men are slim pickings for a single factory girl in Hook, New Jersey…until tall, broad-shouldered hotness walks-or rather storms-into Jasmine’s life. Sarge’s return shouldn’t affect her this way. He’s her best friend’s much younger kid brother, and the kind of rough, gritty, sexiness Jasmine has no right to taste for herself. Even if he lets her.
But lust is a blinding, insatiable force. And when it crashes, it will take both Sarge and Jasmine down with it…

These all sound good. A STUDY IN HONOR is languishing in my TBR; PERVADE is (maybe, hopefully) menage without a woman under threat from a villain; more Keri Arthur is always good; and, a single factory-worker heroine? I am here for this. Thank you!
Has anyone read the second book in that Tessa Bailey NJ series? I loved the first one, with the younger man and blue collar heroine. But the second book looks like it is a secret baby story where there is no good reason the heroine kept the secret, other than the hero broke up with her, joined the military, and now the heroine will martyr herself working multiple jobs, not accepting money even from her rockstar brother. And those sorts of stories make me ragey at the heroine and sorry for the kid (since you know its father will be the best dad ever once he finds out). Did that heroine have a good reason for not just letting her kid have a relationship with its father and getting them some child support?
Beneath A Rising Moon is no longer on sale. Now $7.99 on Amazon.
