Much Ado About Jack
Much Ado About Jack by Christy English is $2.99! I really like this cover. The model has a great sense of…presence. This is the third book in the Shakespeare in Love series. The first book is currently free and the second one is only $1.99. Many reviewers mentioned that those reading this as a standalone may be taking a risk since past characters make a frequent appearance, while others felt this historical was well-researched.
How to Become London’s Most Notorious Widow:
1. Vow to NEVER remarry
2. Own a ship and become fabulously wealthy
3. Wear the latest risqué fashions in your signature color
4. Do NOT have a liaison at the Prince Regent’s palace with a naval captain whose broad shoulders and green eyes make you forget Rule #1
Angelique Beauchamp, the widowed Countess of Devonshire, has been twice burned by love, and she is certain that no man will ever touch her heart again. But that doesn’t mean she can’t indulge a little—and it would be hard to find a more perfect dalliance than one with the dashing Captain James Montgomery.
After a brief torrid affair, James tries to forget Angelique and his undeniable thirst for more. The luscious lady was quite clear that their liaison was temporary. But for the first time, the lure of the sea isn’t powerful enough to keep him away…

Their Virgin Captive
Their Virgin Captive by Shayla Black and Lexi Blake is 99c! This is the first book in the Masters of Menage series, and I suppose it does what it says on the tin. There are three heroes and one heroine, which feels like a bit of a jigsaw puzzle when it comes to sexy times. Also note that the three heroes are brothers.
Brothers Gavin, Slade, and Dex, fall hard for Gavin’s new secretary, beautiful Hannah Craig. The oil executives know they must give her time to get to know them before she can choose one . . . who will seduce the virgin and keep her for his own. But when a dangerous predator begins stalking the small-town beauty, they work together to protect her, abducting Hannah and spiriting her to an isolated hideaway. Once alone with her, none of them can contain their burning desire. Though Slade and Dex don’t mind sharing, Gavin’s tragic past has put distance between him and his brothers. Now, they’re hoping that not only will Hannah love them back . . . but maybe mend their fractured family.
After overcoming her initial fears, the men teach her wild pleasure she’s never imagined. She grows closer to each, their devotion melting her inhibitions. Hannah finds herself embracing love with all three men—and hoping she can heal Gavin’s wounded soul. But her new found happiness turns to terror when her stalker finds her. Will Gavin, Slade and Dex lose their woman to a menace that threatens everything they hold dear, or will they finally unite to make Hannah theirs forever?

It Happened on Love Street
It Happened on Love Street by Lia Riley is $2.99! This is the first book in the Everland, Georgia small town romance series. Readers say this is a fun, cute romance, but warn of too much monologuing from the hero and heroine. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.
The most romantic place she never wanted to be . . .
Pepper Knight moved to Everland, Georgia, as step one in her plan for a successful legal career. But after this big-city gal’s plans go awry, going home with her tail between her legs isn’t an option. So when the town vet-and her sexy new neighbor-offers Pepper a temporary dog-walking job, she jumps at the chance. No one needs to know that man’s best friend is her worst nightmare . . . or that Everland’s hot animal whisperer leaves her panting.
The last thing Rhett Valentine wants is to be the center of small-town gossip. After his first love left him at the altar, he’s been there, done that. These days, life is simple, just the way he likes it. But sultry southern nights get complicated once sparks fly between him and the knockout next door. When she proposes a sexy, secret fling-all the deliciousness and none of the prying neighbors-it seems too good to be true. And it is. Because Pepper’s determined to leave Love Street, and when she goes, she just might take his heart with her . . .

The Hike
The Hike by Drew Magary is $1.99! This is a fantasy horror novel with a bit of humor, and I remember hearing about it everywhere when it first came out. I bought it on a recommendation of one of my local booksellers, though I haven’t read it yet. One of my friends on Goodreads said it had the best ending she’d read all year in 2016, but there is a heavy thread of WTF through the book.
From the author of The Postmortal, a fantasy saga unlike any you’ve read before, weaving elements of folk tales and video games into a riveting, unforgettable adventure of what a man will endure to return to his family
When Ben, a suburban family man, takes a business trip to rural Pennsylvania, he decides to spend the afternoon before his dinner meeting on a short hike. Once he sets out into the woods behind his hotel, he quickly comes to realize that the path he has chosen cannot be given up easily. With no choice but to move forward, Ben finds himself falling deeper and deeper into a world of man-eating giants, bizarre demons, and colossal insects.
On a quest of epic, life-or-death proportions, Ben finds help comes in some of the most unexpected forms, including a profane crustacean and a variety of magical objects, tools, and potions. Desperate to return to his family, Ben is determined to track down the “Producer,” the creator of the world in which he is being held hostage and the only one who can free him from the path.
At once bitingly funny and emotionally absorbing, Magary’s novel is a remarkably unique addition to the contemporary fantasy genre, one that draws as easily from the world of classic folk tales as it does from video games. In The Hike, Magary takes readers on a daring odyssey away from our day-to-day grind and transports them into an enthralling world propelled by heart, imagination, and survival.

“But when a dangerous predator begins stalking the small-town beauty, they work together to protect her, abducting Hannah and spiriting her to an isolated hideaway.”
Was saying “Hey, we have an isolated hideaway where you’ll be safe from the guy stalking you. Want to go there?” really not an option?
@Lostshadows: HA! What I wouldn’t give for an isolated hideaway right about now.
I haven’t read The Hike, but Drew Magary is the guy who does the Hater’s Guide to the Williams-Sonoma Christmas Catalog every year, and it is HILARIOUS. I’m tempted to buy this on those alone.
@Lostshadows: I would have cringed more at the hideaway kidnapping if I wasn’t already appalled by the “which one she’ll choose” part. I guess “no thanks” was never an option there either.
@Lostshadows: I’ve read several books where a stalker *always* helps push the beautiful virgin into a relationship. I hate this trope because it assumes she needs rescuing and that, as an intelligent adult, she couldn’t choose such a relationship on her own. There are plenty of books that don’t require a stalker, I just don’t understand why we return to this one.
Their Virgin Captive was a DNF for me, and the original cover art offers clues as to why. Rapey nonsense.

IIRC, isn’t Shayla Black the author who famously penned the “fucking her ass, saving her life” bit?
‘Their Virgin Captive’ would be a NOPE for me on the basis of the title (and on the basis of one too many menage-y Anita Blake books) and the boss-seducing-employee setup, because ewww, but a menage of brothers?! EWWWW I try to be ‘love and let love’ but that is too incesty for me. Wow so much nope.
@LauraD: Yup.
For the uninitiated:

I think a woman becomes somewhat, um, “oversubscribed” when the number of men in the frame is greater than two.
/Although, I must admit, Annika Martin’s Kinky Bank Robbers series are the only “reverse harem” books that seemed even moderately plausible.
“Stranded” by Chance Carter was a decent reverse harem. There’s no dreaded “tangle of limbs.” It would have been really easy to make the story into an erotic Gilligan’s Island, but Joss is no Ginger. She’s a badass survival expert, and from the first moments of crisis the men look to her for leadership, and she does not disappoint. All the characters are strong and fleshed out, though some of the guys seem mainly defined by their relationship with Joss. I found it a really great read and a refreshing departure from the genre.
“Virgin Captive” would not be my spin of the kink wheel, but I bet it might be someone’s. Thanks for presenting all options, SBTB!
Much Ado About Jack had a whole bunch of my catnip, but I didn’t feel like the story and writing lived up to the promise.
But yeah, that cover is delish.
Is anyone else seeing Jaime Lannister on the first cover?
@ Ms M
I was too distracted by the chest hair.
I have some trouble with the idea of brothers in a menage. I mean, I am sure their mother taught them to share but this seems beyond fair sharing and into the realm of squicky.
I draw the line at “oil executives”.
My only question RE Their Virgin Captive is is there full-on incest or does it follow Decadent’s rule of “plug the dicks into the girl but don’t make eye contact with your brother while he’s nutting in her?”
The cover for It Happened on Love Street looks a bit too innocent for the author or cover designer to know that in England any thoroughfare called “Love Street” (or, more alliteratively, “Love Lane”) would have garnered that name through the traditional activities of the ladies of the night.
I love the title for Much Ado About Jack. I heart puns. The premise, however, does not seem to follow that of the original Much Ado which is a shame.
@Becky – I went to look for “Stranded” as the Gilligan’s island with a competent female sounded interesting, but it, and all others of Chance Carter’s books are pulled from Amazon. I guess the author was book-stuffing or some such thing. Too bad, it sounded like a nice read!
@Jeannette – That’s unfortunate. I don’t understand how Amazon publishing works. So many books are here today, gone tomorrow. Must make it hard for authors to build a reader base.
Drew Magary is also the best writer at Deadspin, who went through some Bad Stuff this Winter and makes American football enjoyable by talking about everything around it.
Which isn’t enough to say “Buy this book” but: If you’re thinking about it anyway, give the dude a few tupence of royalties.
@Becky: It takes extreme, chronic violations that cause embarrassing publicity and/or legal ramifications for Amazon for an author to get banned (if I remember right, FTC violations finally forced their hand for the one in question), and the ones who do get banned form new LLCs to circumvent and have their scams up and running again within 48 hours. So don’t worry about them—any readers they collect are just a bonus on top of a well-oiled grift machine powered by no readers at all!
