We are looking to expand our coverage of romance titles, as the number of titles published grows hourly. There were probably fourteen-sixty-hundred new books published in the time it took to write this sentence. So, it’s time to bring on more reviewers!
We are in particular focused on including more marginalized voices and perspectives, and encourage you to apply if you’re interested.
Requirements:
Reviewers must be able and willing to write critical and thoughtful reviews of primarily romance fiction. We are open to reviews of titles which include romantic elements or may be of particular interest to romance readers, but we focus on romance fiction.
A critical review is one that is not merely praise or a summary of the plot. A critical review can discuss what one liked about a book and why, and the opposite – what didn’t work and why. The text of the review can be serious or silly or a balance of both.
We are looking for readers and writers who are deeply familiar with the romance genre, if not fluent in most aspects of it.
Expectations:
We will work with your availability as we establish a minimum monthly review contribution target.
Your reviews will be edited before publication.
You will be paid for your reviews at a rate of $40 per review published.
Additional opportunities to participate in site content such as Cover Snark or group discussions will be available if you’re interested.

We’re looking for review samples that highlight your writing skills, your critical perspective, and your ability to explain your position on a book in a way that can help another reader make an informed choice, with the added bonus of providing entertainment and thoughtful examination.

Do you supply the books? Do we review only our own? If so, do we need to submit our choice first before getting the OK?
Minimum/Maximum word count?
Do the sample reviews need to have been published? Or can I write them this week as part of the application?
@Sharmini: No, the samples don’t have to have been published.
@Monique D: I don’t have a maximum or minimum word count that’s set in stone, but if you’ve read the reviews here, there’s an expectation of how much detail and discussion we include. As for books, reviewers here may have access to advanced reading copies (this is at publisher discretion, not mine, so I can’t guarantee it). If there are books a reviewer wants to read, but doesn’t own and can’t borrow or access in advance, we can work out reimbursement for the book purchase. If the book in question is a much-anticipated title, there is a form we use to reserve a book for review. Thank you for asking!
Beyond ARCs, are books ever assigned to reviewers, or do they always have a say in which ones they’ll review?
@Nicolette: I don’t assign books, typically. I prefer readers seek out books they think they’ll like to read.

Do the reviews have to be for new books or are older ones accepted? Asking for those like me who book on a budget….
@Paige Nieto: Backlist reviews are definitely okay! We know that reviews of new releases are dependent upon ARC access.

Do we have to include four sample reviews, or is a smaller number okay? I’ve been trying to clean up some I was in the process of writing, and it is proving more difficult than I thought.
I think I can come up with a fourth one, but it might prove tougher than I thought.
