  • Hard Hitter

    Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen

RECOMMENDED: Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen is $1.99! This is a sports contemporary romance and part of the Brooklyn Bruisers series. Elyse read this one and gave it an A grade:

So for a non-sports romance type of girl, I was totally swept up by Hard Hitter. I’m adding Sarina Bowen to my auto-buy list. This was the mature, sexy, intelligent contemporary romance I so wanted and a great way to start the new year.

From the USA Today bestselling author of Rookie Move comes the second novel in the series that’s hot enough to melt the ice.

He’s a fighter in the rink, but he’s about to learn that playing nice can help you score…

As team captain and enforcer, Patrick O’Doul puts the bruise in the Brooklyn Bruisers. But after years of hard hits, O’Doul is feeling the burn, both physically and mentally. He conceals his pain from his coach and trainers, but when his chronic hip injury becomes too obvious to ignore, they send him for sessions with the team’s massage therapist.

After breaking up with her long-term boyfriend, Ari Bettini is in need of peace of mind. For now, she’s decided to focus on her work: rehabilitating the Bruisers’ MVP. O’Doul is easy on the eyes, but his reaction to her touch is ice cold. Ari is determined to help O’Doul heal, but as the tension between them turns red hot, they both learn that a little TLC does the body good…

  • Wolfsong

    Wolfsong by T.J. Klune

Wolfsong by TJ Klune is 99c at Amazon! It’s a Kindle Daily Deal, but isn’t being price-matched just yet. This book and Klune’s writing in particular have been recommended on previous podcast episodes. This a paranormal m/m romance and it has an astounding 4.5 rating on Goodreads.

Ox was twelve when his daddy taught him a very valuable lesson. He said that Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then he left.

Ox was sixteen when he met the boy on the road. The little boy who talked and talked and talked. Ox found out later the little boy hadn’t spoken in almost two years before that day, and that the little boy belonged to a family who had moved into the house at the end of the lane.

Ox was seventeen when he found out the little boy’s secret and it painted the world around him in colors of red and orange and violet, of Alpha and Beta and Omega.

Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his head and heart. The boy chased after the monster with revenge in his bloodred eyes, leaving Ox behind to pick up the pieces.

It’s been three years since that fateful day—and the boy is back. Except now he’s a man, and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them.

  • Deadly Strain

    Deadly Strain by Julie Rowe

Deadly Strain by Julie Rowe is $1.99! This book was recommended on two podcasts: one with Sassy Outwater and one with Reader Meka. It’s romantic suspense with a bioterrorism angle and while readers loved the non-stop action, some wished there was more focus on the romance. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

Major Grace Samuels, a trauma surgeon deployed to Afghanistan, spends her life helping her fellow soldiers overcome disease and combat injuries. But her own wounds are harder to heal. Wracked with guilt over the death of a fellow soldier, she finds comfort in her only friend and appointed bodyguard, weapons sergeant Jacob “Sharp” Foster.

Sharp feels more for Grace than a soldier should, more than he wants to admit. When the team discovers a new, quick-to-kill strain of Anthrax, he tries to focus on the mission to find its source. He knows he can help Grace defeat her demons, but first they must defeat the deadly outbreak.

Sharp is Grace’s most loyal ally, but in close quarters, he starts to feel like more. She can’t watch someone else she cares about die—but she might not have a choice. The closer they get to finding the source of the strain, the closer it gets to finding them.

  • The Chocolate Thief

The Chocolate Thief by Laura Florand

The Chocolate Thief by Laura Florand is 99c! This is the first book in the recommended Amour et Chocolat series and the other books are also on sale! Sarah read this one and here’s what she had to say:

Unfortunately for me, this was the one book of the series that I didn’t enjoy as much as the others. I adored every other book in the series but the heroine, Cade, rubbed me the wrong way. That said, many other readers loved this book, and the sense of place – Paris is a character in this series and it’s lovely – is just as strong.

    Paris
Breathtakingly beautiful, the City of Light seduces the senses, its cobbled streets thrumming with possibility. For American Cade Corey, it’s a dream come true, if only she can get one infuriating French chocolatier to sign on the dotted line…

    Chocolate
Melting, yielding yet firm, exotic, its secrets are intimately known to Sylvain Marquis. But turn them over to a brash American waving a fistful of dollars? Jamais. Not unless there’s something much more delectable on the table…

    Stolen Pleasure
Whether confections taken from a locked shop or kisses in the dark, is there anything sweeter?

  1. Deianira says:

Hmm. As a completely non-sports-oriented person – I’ve never attended or watched a professional sportsball game, & I’m in my 50s now – I continue to be surprised at how much I enjoy sports romances. I blame Pippa Grant’s Berger twins. Anyway, definitely adding “Hard Hitter” to my ever-growing list.

  2. MaryK says:

I liked Hard Hitter. I need to go back and read the first in the series. I liked the goalie and want to read his story which I think is book 3, but it looks to be super angsty and has a teenage daughter so I’ve been reluctant to try it.

  3. Emily B says:

Hard Hitter is great, as are all Sarina Bowen’s Brooklyn Bruisers books. The series before Brooklyn Bruisers, Ivy Years, is in Kindle Unlimited for the next couple months – they’re more new adult, college setting, but also great.

  4. Marissa says:

I had never read a single sports romance before, but I read Sarina Bowen’s “Bittersweet,” finished the True North series, then read the Ivy Years and Brooklyn Bruisers and now I feel compelled to watch hockey.

  5. Cristie says:

The audible daily deal is The Murderer’s Son by Joy Ellis narrated by Richard Armitage. I’ve never heard of the author or book, but I one clicked just because I’ll listen to ANYTHING narrated by RA. The price is $3.95 in case anyone’s interested. Oh and highly recommend Wolfsong-one of my favorite books ever.

  6. Jo says:

Aaah, Wolfsong. This book is ALL about love, not just romance, but also the love of family, blood family and found/chosen family. Acceptance and belonging.

“Candy Canes and Pine Cones and Epic and Awesome”

“Pack. Pack. Pack. Alpha. Alpha. Alpha. Ox. Ox. Ox. Joe. Joe. Joe.”

Ox owns my heart. 5, no 10 stars TWICE now, as was the sequel Ravensong and the freebie short story on the authors’ website, Lovesong. The last two books are out at the end of the year (september and december) and I have no doubts they will also be 5 stars.

TJ Klune is a master of beautiful prose, wonderful characters and page-turning narratives. I have loved 4 other books of his that I’ve read (2 more 5 stars). This author deserves so much more love and attention that he gets.

  7. Avis says:

Lady Rogue by Theresa Romaine is 90p on Amazon UK today.

  8. Lucy says:

I’m deeply unnerved by the title Hard Hitter because I keep misreading it as Hard Hitler.

  9. Hazel says:

I LOVE Sarina Bowen! My favorite of her Brooklyn Bruisers series is ‘Brooklynaire’ (mmm, Nate) and ‘Bountiful’ (prepare for your ovaries to explode with that one!)

  10. Caroline says:

@Hazel Hard Hitter is good, but I adored Bountiful. It one of the few books with a kid that did a good job depicting that age accurately.

  11. Courtney says:

Sarina Bowen is one of my favorite authors! I haven’t read a book by her that I didn’t enjoy. Her Ivy Years series is in KU for the next month or two – highly recommended.

  12. Linda Pierce says:

Wolfsong was wonderful. I have never been drawn to shifter stories but Ox and Joe and their pack were so wonderful and the writing is amazing. I am now a huge TJ Klune fan. Highly recommend it if you like M/M romances and stories with love and tight knit families.
