  1. Yaara says:

I actually read an oldish sci-fi book earlier this year and really enjoyed it after a long break from the genre – Pandora’s Star by Peter Hamilton. It was a little dense at times, and the women characters could have been better, but was still an interesting read.

  2. Valerie says:

Wildfire by Ilona Andrews and Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

  3. Batman says:

    Polaris Rising!

  4. Kerry says:

    American Dreamer by Adriana Herrera.

  5. Emma L says:

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah (yes, late to the party)
    Daisy Jones and the Six

  6. So far, I’ve been loving K.F. Breene and just finished Born in Fire. I’m also going old school Christine Feehan with Wild Rain as I just started reading her Leopard Series and it’s my catnip…pun intended

  7. Allison says:

I finally checked out the first Mistborn book by Brian Sanderson, and loved the whole allomancy system!

  8. SaraW says:

    Polaris Rising by Jesse Mihalik.

I read it, then immediately re-read it twice more in the space of a week. The kind of book I stayed up to 3am reading. I would never have picked this up (after years of space-opera-genre disappointment) except for the inspiring Book Squee review here on SBTB.

    Thank you Smart Bitchery!

  9. Rowan says:

Fortune’s Pawn, by Rachel Bach! It was fast-paced, exciting, and creative, with a non-traditional heroine and some fun futuristic science. Couldn’t put it (or any of the rest of the series) down.

  10. Lianne says:

A toss up between Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston and Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

  11. Julie says:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and My Sister, the Serial Killer.

  12. Marjorie Morris says:

Naked In Death by J D Robb. Since January 1, I have read all but a few of the In Death books. Love Roarke and Dallas.

  13. MarieC says:

Definitely Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik

  14. Amy says:

I really enjoyed Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas- it was just a nice feel good book 🙂

  15. Turophile says:

    Becoming, Michelle Obama

  16. Amanda says:

I tried American Dreamer based on one of the guests on the podcast (Adriana Herrera) and loved it. I also read Option B by Cheryl Sandburg and Adam Grant, which was not fiction but it really spoke to me.

  17. Marian O’connor says:

Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston.

  18. Hope says:

Not the Duke’s Darling – Elizabeth Hoyt

  19. Sarah says:

The Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews!

  20. Rachel says:

I think my favorite was a reread of Cold Comfort Farm, after splurging and getting an actual dead tree copy!

  21. Stacey says:

Connections in Death by JD Robb. I love all the JD Robb books. I’m just a sucker for the characters and their continuing stories.

  22. Janice says:

So far my favourite read has been E.K. Johnston’s Queen’s Shadow which is an amazing Star Wars novel set between prequels #1 & #2, featuring Padmé as senator and her amazing coterie of former handmaidens.

  23. Michelle says:

Nine Coaches Waiting by Mary Stewart, hands down. An orphan child. A castle in the mountains. An inheritance and family secret. A slow burn romance. It hit all my buttons.

  24. Elizabeth Schoenthal says:

My Favorite Half night stand- Christina Lauren and A Duke in the Night by Kelly Bowen

  25. Devon Simpson says:

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik! It was The Bear and the Nightingale read-alike I have been dreaming of, plus my mom (who also loves SBTB!) recommended it to me so we got to bookclub it!

  26. Jiobal says:

My favourite so far was (again) Thema Goblin King by Katherine Addison (rereads have to count as well, right? ). Favourite new book possibly Blood of the Earth, 4th of the Soulwood novels by Faith Hunter.

  27. julienne says:

I’m always behind on series – my favorite read so far is Tessa Dare’s Do You Want to Start a Scandal, published 2016…

  28. Terry Griswold says:

Favorite so far … How to be a Normal Person by TJ Klune (discovered on this blog, thank you!). Actually, everything by TJ. So. Much. Snark.

  29. JJB says:

The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey

  30. Lenny says:

Really excited to discover the Counterfeit Lady series by Victoria Thompson this year.

  33. Chris K says:

Polaris rising by Jesse Mihalik was definitely my favorite so far.

  34. Sarah says:

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I love the fact that Diana is a historian and that she meets Matthew in a library.

  35. Megan S. says:

My favorite book I’ve read this year is Kia Corthron’s epic The Castle Cross the Magnet Carter. Romance-wise, I’m in the middle of K.J. Charles’s Any Old Diamonds right now, and I’m pretty sure it’s the best romance novel I’ve read in a long time.

  36. Natalie W says:

    The Risk by Elle Kennedy
The entire True North series by Sarina Bowen
The One You Fight For by Roni Loren

  37. AuntieKristin says:

Lothaire by Kresley Cole. I blame Sarah MacLean.

  38. Peter Darling by Austin Chant

That book has it all – romance, action, humor, heartbreak, suspense, fantasy and real world elements. It also puts a completely new and truly interesting spin on the well-known Peter Pan character.

  39. Aarya Marsden says:

Kiss and Cry by Mina. V. Esguerra.

  40. Louise says:

My fave so far has been Hosed by Pippa Grant and Lili Valente. It was hilariously inappropriate fun!
