I haven’t read a current book yet this year! I’m still unpacking from moving in 2016 and can’t put my keepers on a shelf til I’ve re-read them. Yes it’s a big psychological issue I’m sure but I’m happy.

  4. Alex says:

I am a sucker for Jill Mansell so of course loved Maybe This Time, but I’ve been burning through books this year and am struggling to remember them clearly, but I enjoyed The Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey, and the 21 Wall St series by Lauren Layne.

My absolute favorite book and most inspiring read in a long time was Grandma Gatewood’s Walk by Ben Montgomery, a biography of the first woman (a 67 YO grandmother!) to thru-hike the 2,000 mile Appalachian Trail. She did it in 1955 and at that time, only 7 other people, all younger men, had done the complete hike.

It’s always so hard to decide. I think I’ll suggest “Love, Unexpectedly” by Susan Fox. It has friends-to-lovers that finally get together while playing out a “strangers on a train” fantasy while crossing Canada. I loved it!

  29. ErinD says:

I love this comment thread! My favorite read so far this year has been The Library Book, by Susan Orlean, with The Kiss Quotient (how did I wait this long to read it?!) by Helen Hoang close behind.

  30. Cat says:

So I am trying to cook more as well as make healthier food so The VB6 Cookbook by Mark Bittman has been great to insert more plant based meals into my diet!

  31. ly g says:

“The Library Book” by Susan Orleans. We read it for my book club last month, funnily enough it took months to get from my library.

Normally, I shy away from super popular books because I feel like I always am disappointed, but I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was really well researched but written so it didn’t feel like a textbook. And I was a little heart sad when they described the fire – all that history just gone!

  32. Sarah says:

“The Magpie Lord” by KJ Charles – just discovered this author and I want more! Sadly my library has a very limited collection (1) so off to the bookstore I go. Also really enjoyed “How to be a Good Creature” by Sy Montgomery. Very touching and fun collection of stories about her relationships with different animals throughout her life.
