We had a strange but exhilarating tour of what stock photo composition means for reading and eating, and now I’m feeling nosy:
What’s your favorite snack to eat while reading?
(Please note: my fingers defaulted to typing “snark” instead of “snack” which I think is hilarious. What’s my favorite snark while reading? Well, that’s a difficult question.)
Sarah: Typically I don’t eat while reading because it makes the screen of my Kindle all gross, and if I’m reading paper, it’s a library book and therefore sacrosanct.
Beverages are easy: I always have a water bottle with me, or maybe I’m drinking tea. And if I’m absolutely not driving anywhere, maybe wine or a cocktail.
But you know those questions like, “You can only have one thing to snack on forever, so will it be salty or sweet?” For me: salty. SALT. I love salt. So my preferred snack would be corn chips or, if I’m feeling now that I want to feel terrible later, Doritos. Love them, but they turn me into a foggy, slow-motion bloat-monster afterward. Sometimes it’s worth it. Not often.

This person and I would get along well, I think, if I brought my own bag of Doritos and they had their chips.
I also love the raspberries I find at Costco, which are so big I can wear them on the end of my fingers and eat them one by one.
I asked the crew here at HQ, and got many similar answers to my query: what’s your favorite snack while reading?
Elyse: Wine.
Sarah: Snort.
Elyse: Popcorn. The homemade kind, not out of a bag.
Sarah: I can’t eat popcorn. I find shell pieces in my teeth and gums for days. I hate that, and it’s a shame, because as I mentioned, I LOVE SALT. OMG Sodium I love you so much.
Amanda: I don’t really eat when I read or if I do, it’s pretty much based on whatever I have around. I do always either have a mug of coffee or a can of seltzer nearby.
Elyse: I’m a salty person (ha) so popcorn, nuts, maybe some cheese? I like those little Sargento snack packs.
Sarah: #Wisconsin.
Carrie: hot cocoa or tea for me.
After the smorgasbord of weird and wonderful that I found while perusing BigStock, I’m really curious about you.
What do you like to nosh on while you read? If you were setting up your ideal snack bar for your own reading enjoyment, what’s on it?
What about y’all? What’s your favorite snack while reading?

I usually read on weekend mornings, so coffee is my snack.
When I do some after-work reading, I’m all about Dang sticky rice chips, Inka plantain chips, or pretzel crisps. (I have one of thos Whol Foods 365 stores on the way home, so I’m all about the weird chips.)
If I’m able to really settle in with a book I want things that make me feel like a lady at tea time, or a rustic country girl in the sun. So either pretty pastries, tea or a cocktail, chocolates, and scones with jam or cream, OR an apple, some cheese, a delicious roll or sandwich, and cookies (this also depends on whether I’m inside or outside). It makes me feel like I’m stepping out of time- I can be a scandalous lady of late 19th century Paris, eating my bonbons with champagne and creme de violette, or a young regency heroine stealing a moment in the garden with some gingerbread from the kitchen.
P.S. I only do this when I’m alone and no one can interrupt my fantasy.
Used to be a bowl of cubed avocado and pear but now it’s whatever we have around. Often leftovers.
And coffee.
I don’t tend to snack while reading except for right now. It’s Cadbury mini egg time and I cannot help but eat them at all times! Other than that I love drinking tea while reading. It symbolizes to me that I’m settling in to read for a long time.
Glass of wine or fancy beer. I usually have a box of sugary cereal in the house as a dessert option and I eat it dry (so its finger food)
I’m excited to try the chopstick idea. I shared the idea with a friend so hopefully he’ll help me remember to try it
I don’t always snack while reading but anything goes as long as it’s not too messy.
If I had to choose one thing now it would be M&Ms. The peanut ones.
I try not to eat while I read because of my mindless noshing. I get so caught up in reading, that I absentmindedly eat then realize too late it’s all gone. I do drink tea while I read. I have ‘aged’ out of too much sodium, alcohol of any kind, and sugar. As I am old(er) I had to give them up to have a better quality of life 🙂
So yes, usually cheese but it as noted above it’s GS cookie season. So my last reading snack was a couple of Samoas and coffee.
Oh definitely chips! (ketchup flavour) If I’m out (and it’s too dang cold to make a store run #Winter #Toronto) then I sometimes have salt and vinegar peanuts on hand 😀
Usually no snacks. Coffee, green tea, herbal tea, or wine.
A rare treat is Trader Joes’s Chocolate Almond Biscotti. Dipped in coffee. But alas, I could easily eat the whole package at once, so tread carefully.
