Links: Musicals, Dogs, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hey there! Are you ready for some Wednesday links? This has been one of those weeks for me where it starts out super productive and then it’s Wednesday, and you have no idea what the date is or why you can’t find a damn pair of matching socks and you cat just won’t stop licking the windows. Welcome to my week!

Are you a romance reader who loves musicals? Author Emma Barry has put together a handy list of musicals, organized by trope. It’s funny to see that some of my favorite musicals match up to some of my favorite romance tropes.

If you’re free on April 11 and in the D.C. area, don’t miss this romance event at East City Bookshop! Sarah will be there moderating a discussion with Mia Sosa, Sally Thorne, and Tracey Livesay.

Tor has a free fantasy sampler out! It’s available at most ebook vendors. The sampler features excerpts from eight upcoming 2019 fantasy titles. And like I said, it’s FREE!

For those who have a weakness for pretty kitchen gear, KitchenAid is coming out with a line of patterned ceramic mixing bowls. Seriously, they’re gorgeous (and expensive). I’m not sure if I can pick a favorite, but all of them would match my Priscilla (yes, I’ve named my stand mixer).

Are you into video games? How about dogs? I am totally loving this new Twitter account: Can You Pet the Dog?, which lets you know which video games allows you to pet dogs. A+ resource.

..

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I think my KitchenAid has a 4.5-quart bowl so those new ones won’t work for me, but I’d love to see the fifth design they haven’t released a picture of yet: “White Mermaid Lace is a 3D-embossed design inspired by a traditional Japanese fish scale pattern, finished with a reactive glaze that changes the color’s intensity to accentuate the pattern.” Since the specified color is WHITE, I’d sure like to see how it’s intensified…

I’m rather partial to Parasol myself. Only problem is I don’t own a KitchenAid.

Can You Pet the Dog is an A+ resource indeed. Doing the Lord’s work out there.

The “Purl” animated video from Pixar, written and directed by Kristen Lester, has been making the rounds in my women-in-tech crowd. The video tells the story of a ball of yarn taking a job at B.R.O. Capital and figuring out how to fit in the toxic male culture. It resonated with me for sure and all you knitters will love some of the jokes! If you haven’t seen it, see how Purl changes her world: https://youtu.be/B6uuIHpFkuo

  5. Amanda says:

Thank you for Purl. I’m currently looking for my first software development job and… yeah.

  6. LauraL says:

@ Amanda – My advice, be sure to check the many, and varying, lists of best technology companies for women and learn about craft beer even if you don’t indulge. Wishing you all the best in your job search. ~ virtual tech girls rock hug ~

“The buff cosplayer definitely puts a different spin on our favourite archaeologist and we’re loving every minute and muscle of it.”
