Naked in Death
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb, the book that introduced Eve and Roarke, is 99c! If you’ve never read this series, this is a terrific opportunity to start, especially as we’re nearing the 50th installment. The series is a unique combination romantic suspense and futuristic thriller – it’s set in New York in 2058. And it introduced one of the most-beloved heroes in romance.
In a world of danger and deception, she walks the line–between seductive passion and scandalous murder…Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she’s seen it all–and knows her survival depends on her instincts.
And she’s going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire–and a suspect in Eve’s murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it’s up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about–except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Shades of Treason
Shades of Treason by Sandy Williams is 99c at Amazon and $2.99 elsewhere! This is a scifi romance where the heroine and her former mentor experience pants feelings. Readers loved the amount of action in the book, but felt the ending was unresolved and seemed like a cliffhanger. The follow up book is $3.99, if you’re determined to continue.
Ash would have given her life to save her teammates.
Instead, they gave their lives to save hers.Lieutenant Ramie Ashdyn is an anomaly, a person whose genetic makeup makes her stronger and smarter than the average human. She’s pledged her life to protect the Coalition, an alliance of thirteen planetary systems, but when a top secret operation turns bloody, she’s charged with treason and the brutal executions of her teammates.
The Coalition needs the information Ash’s team stole on their last mission, so they send in Commander Rhys “Rest in Peace” Rykus to get it. He’s the man who’s responsible for turning Ash into an elite soldier… and he’s a man who isn’t, never was, and never will be in love with the woman he trained. Or so he tells himself.
Ash wants nothing more than to clear her name and be the woman her former instructor wants her to be, but the enemy who killed her teammates did more than frame her for treason and murder: they telepathically silenced her mind, preventing her from saying anything that might point to the truth about what happened.
Now Ash is trapped and set to be executed, the truth dying with her. Unless she can prove her innocence. But taking that path could destroy the Coalition she’s sworn to preserve and protect…

The Unlikeable Demon Hunter
PODCAST RECOMMENDED: The Unlikeable Demon Hunter by Deborah Wilde is 99c at Amazon! Thien-Kim Lam recommended this book on a previous podcast episode and said it was really fun. If you’re a fan of Buffy, you might want to check this one out. This deal expires tomorrow night.
Bridesmaids meets Buffy with a dash of the seven deadly sins.
The age-old story of what happens when a foul-mouthed, romance impaired heroine with no edit button and a predilection for hot sex is faced with her worst nightmare–a purpose.
Ari Katz is intelligent, driven, and will make an excellent demon hunter once initiated into the Brotherhood of David. However, this book is about his twin Nava: a smart-ass, self-cultivated hot mess, who is thrilled her brother is stuck with all the chosen one crap.
When Nava half-drunkenly interrupts Ari’s induction ceremony, she expects to be chastised. What she doesn’t expect is to take her brother’s place among the–until now–all-male demon hunters. Even worse? Her infuriating leader is former rock star Rohan Mitra.
Too bad Rohan’s exactly what Nava’s always wanted: the perfect bad boy fling with no strings attached, because he may also be the one to bring down her carefully erected emotional shields. That’s as dangerous as all the evil fiends vying for the bragging rights of killing the only female ever chosen for Demon Club.
Odds of survival: eh.
Odds of having a very good time with Rohan before she bites it: much better.

I found the Unlikeable Demon Hunter to be just what it says on the label – unlikeable. I liked the idea a lot, and loved that the heroine was Jewish, but I really couldn’t connect with Nava.
The Unlikable Demon Hunter is not for everyone. She goes out of her way being as unlikable as possible. Still, even though the language in the book crossed some of my personal lines, I got sucked in. Neva touched a nerve. I hope she‘ll get out of the selfdestructive way she lives and will lern to accept and love herself. There seems to be some hope for it after the first book.
Ugh, I was going to look into getting Shades of Treason, but for some reason only the second book in the series, Shades of Honor, is available via Kobo (twice, at two different prices – not sure what’s up with that). I don’t buy Amazon e-books, so that’s an automatic nope from me.
MODERN FAIRY TALE, a collection of 12 books by 12 different authors is free in the Kindle store right now. Each book appears to be the first in its series, so there might be cliffhangers.

For me, The Unlikable Demon Hunter is like Kesha. In the beginning you’ve got TickTock, which is an undeniable earworm, but also exhausting in its performative trashiness. Later, though, you get the Kesha of “I’m a Motherf***ing Woman” and “Praying” at the Grammys with all the ladies in white.
Also, there’s a fluidity in gender and sexuality that still is rarely shown in romance or PRN or UF. Guys wearing pretty clothes and makeup, our heroine hooking up with hot ladies in club bathrooms, good pronoun work – it had a queer/club vibe that I recognized and appreciated.
Oh, the above comment is for the trilogy. Its been awhile but I don;t know that I got all that from the first book alone.
@Teev: I love your analogy.
@Teev: “Performative trashiness” is a perfect way of putting it. For me, I almost couldn’t get through the first book because of it.
