  • Prince Charming

    Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins

Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price-matched. This is the first book in the Royals series and it’s since undergone a cover redesign. Some UK readers felt a few of the details were wrong in terms of setting, while others say this one left them with a huge smile on their face.

Meet Daisy Winters. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.

While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown–and the intriguing Miles–might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.

  • Wrong Number, Right Guy

Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey

Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey is 99c! This is the first book in The Bourbon Street Boys series and all the other books are discounted as well. Readers recommended this for fans of romantic comedy contemporaries. However, others felt the amount of comedy bordered on immature.

When a mysterious text message summons May Wexler to a biker bar in downtown New Orleans, she knows something is very wrong. Her sister has sent out an SOS, but when May gets there, she’s nowhere to be found and May is the one in trouble—she’s wearing pink espadrilles, she’s got a Chihuahua in her purse, and she’s in the middle of a shootout.

After tall, muscular Ozzie comes to her rescue, May has no choice but to follow him to safety. At the headquarters of his private security firm, the Bourbon Street Boys, she finds a refuge for the night—and the offer of a job. But it’s not long before a gun-toting stalker isn’t the only complication in May’s life: the more time she spends with Ozzie, the less she can deny that they’ve got some serious chemistry. A wrong number got her into this mess…Will it also get her the right guy?

  • Going Down on One Knee

Going Down on One Knee by Christina Hovland

Going Down on One Knee by Christina Hovland is 99c! This book sounds kind of bananas in the best way. The hero is a bike and a rockstar, who is then tasked with playing wedding planner. Yep, a biker rockstar wedding planner. Readers liked the opposites attract romance, but as you can tell, there’s a lot going on.

Number-crunching Velma Johnson’s perfectly planned life is right on course.

That’s a lie. Sure, she’s got the lucrative job. She’s got the posh apartment. But her sister nabbed Velma’s Mr. Right. There has to be a man out there for Velma. Hopefully one who’s hunky, wears pressed suits, and has a diversified financial portfolio. He’ll be exactly like, well… her sister’s new fiancé.

Badass biker Brek Montomery blazes a trail across the country, managing Dimefront, one of the biggest rock bands of his generation. With the band on hiatus, Brek rolls into Denver to pay a quick visit to his family and friends. But when Brek’s sister suddenly gets put on bed rest, she convinces Brek to take over her wedding planning business for the duration of her pregnancy.

Staying in Denver and dealing with bridezillas was not what Brek had in mind when he passed through town, but there is one particular maid-of-honor who might make his stay worthwhile.

Velma finds herself strangely attracted to the man planning her sister’s wedding. Problem is, he ticks none of the boxes on her well-crafted list. Brek is rough around the edges, he cusses, and doesn’t even have a 401(k). But trying something crazy might get her out of the rut of her dating life—so long as she lays down boundaries up front and sticks to her plan…

  • The Seduction of Lady Phoebe

The Seduction of Lady Phoebe by Ella Quinn

The Seduction of Lady Phoebe by Ella Quinn is $1.99! This is the first book in the Marriage Game series, and many of the books are available at a discount. Readers seem divided on the heroine. Many found her unconventional and loved it! However, others never really connected with her or understood her actions.

Polite society has its rules for marriage. But for Ella Quinn’s eligible bachelors, their brides will show them that rules are for the weak of heart…

Phoebe Stanhope is not a typical Lady. As feisty as she is quick witted, no one can catch her, especially astride a horse. And unlike her peers, experience has guarded her against a growing list of would-be suitors. But when she encounters Marcus Finley, what she fears most burns deep within in his blue-eyed gaze…

For Lord Finley, the spark of recognition is but a moment in the love he has held these many years. Now that he’s returned to England, all the happiness he desires rests on Lady Phoebe never finding out that he was the one who turned her heart so cold and distant. He must work fast to gain the advantage—to convince her what she wants is exactly what she denies—but in order to seduce her into his arms, he must be willing to give up more than he can control…

  1. Karen D says:

This curious mind wants to know what a “bootleg Walmart” is. Anyone?

  2. @Amanda says:

@Karen D: I wonder if it’s a stand-in for a Walmart, but they couldn’t outright name it in the book.

  3. @KarenD and @Amanda — I read the book last year. From what I remember, the store where Daisy works is sort of like a dollar/convenience store.

It’s a fun YA read, especially if you like royal-themed romances (which I do), and it had a couple of unexpected twists.

  4. Ren Benton says:

I think it’s just misuse of the word “bootleg.” It says on the first page of the book the store she works at is “more or less deserted since the giant Walmart opened up on the other side of town.”

  5. Karen D says:

Thanks, @Jennifer Estep. And @Ren Benton, I agree that it’s probably a misuse of bootleg. That’s what my brain couldn’t comprehend. I wondered if “bootleg Walmart” was YA slang that I just didn’t understand, which could still be the case, I guess.

  6. Liz says:

How has ‘Going Down..’ not been featured on cover snark?

  7. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Liz: Right! His legs are crossed in the classic “I gotta go pee (but I need to find a table on which to place this delicate cake first)” pose and he’s shirtless! It’s been a long time since my wedding, but I’m sure my mother would have had some words with the bakery if the cake had been delivered in that fashion!

  8. Isi says:

@Liz and @Deb: Oh my God, I came to the comments just to say that! The weirdly crossed legs, but also the strangely umproportional torso… And then the cake that is clearly just Photoshopped in. I read the book description just to figure out what was going on – and who would let a shirtless wedding planner anywhere near the cake? I thought there’d be some kind of foodie theme going on as well…

  9. Kristi says:

It looks like they photoshopped the cake stand over a flagpole. Perhaps he was featured on the cover of a shirtless marching band? Also, where is his other hand?

  10. Sukari says:

Going Down… I read the hero’s name (Brek) and pictured Brak from adult swim

  11. Joanna Schuth says:

    … Brek? Y’all, really?

  12. Amy! says:

@DiscoDollyDeb, I think your mother can relax; clearly, that “cake” is just a decoration. The top “layer” looks like one of those enormous toilet paper rolls from the automated dispensers in airports and malls, laying on its side. So the bottom “layer” is prolly just a big roll of hand towels, from another automated dispenser. The only cake there is the beefcake.

  13. Julia says:

Crown Prince of Scotland?! Unless ‘Prince Charming’ is set in a world where the union between Scotland and England never happened I won’t be reading it. I’m already driven mad by fictional Dukedoms that don’t even sound like British place-names!

  14. Julia says:

Oh, and the hero of ‘Going Down…’is “a bike and a rock star”? Surely the cover art should depict this unusual combo?

  15. Kim says:

Prince Charming sounds adorable. And I love the cover!

  16. Kim says:

@Julia some of the reviews mention this being an “alt-history” rom com. The UK exists in the book, but Scotland is an independent nation and is not part of the UK.

I don’t have any other details than that, but t does sound like the “Crown Prince of Scotland” is an intentional part of the world building, rather than a flub.

Sorry to double post, but thought others might be interested.

  17. Jenm says:

I’m in the middle of reading Going Down On One Knee (I was in the mood for something cute/lighthearted, and the price was right). Just to clarify, the hero’s name is Breckinridge (aka Brek) because he was conceived there (his sister’s name is Aspen). As for the cover, there is a scene during one of the weddings he’s trying to manage that involves him having to take off his shirt to give it to the heroine to wear while she gives her own outfit to the mother of the bride, whose dress was ruined….. It’s all rather convoluted but amazingly that cover does line up somewhat.

  18. PamG says:

Re: Going Down on One Knee

    Readers, I clicked it.

P.S. I humbly suggest the sequel, Blow Me Away, for an even greater dose of cover snark–featuring photoshopped tulips and a ray of holy light in addition to the biceps and mom jeans.

  19. Jennifer says:

As I recall, there was a series involving the Royal Family of Alaska. That was pretty delightfully kooky.

  20. @Amanda says:

@Julia: Whoops! Fixed, but it’s romance, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a bike hero out there.

  21. Ren Benton says:

RIDE WITH ME by Ruthie Knox does not have a hero-who-is-a-bicycle but does have two cyclists.

When Lexie Marshall places an ad for a cycling companion, she hopes to find someone friendly and fun to cross the TransAmerica Trail with. Instead, she gets Tom Geiger—a lean, sexy loner whose bad attitude threatens to spoil the adventure she’s spent years planning.

Roped into the cycling equivalent of a blind date by his sister, Tom doesn’t want to ride with a chatty, go-by-the-map kind of woman, and he certainly doesn’t want to want her. Too bad the sight of Lexie with a bike between her thighs really turns his crank.

Even Tom’s stubborn determination to keep Lexie at a distance can’t stop a kiss from leading to endless nights of hotter-than-hot sex. But when the wild ride ends, where will they go next?

    .

Chuck Tingle probably has a story about an actual bike proving love is real, though…

  22. Escapeologist says:

In defense of the crown prince of Scotland – the book is still on my TBR pile but I follow Rachel Hawkins on Twitter and she is a huge history nerd. Her #sexyhistory threads are amazeballs. Anyway she tweeted about creating family trees for her alt-history Scottish royal lineage. My kind of world building. Aaand I’m starting this book tonight.

  23. DonnaMarie says:

Can I just ask how managing the band makes him a rock star?

  24. Maite says:

    @Jennifer:
I think the Royal Family of Alaska was by MaryJanice Davidson. Which tends to right delightfully kooky books. YMMV, of course.

  25. Nancy C says:

I’ll second @Ren Benton’s post about Ruthie Knox’s Ride With Me. It’s my favorite of her books, and one of my comfort rereads.

  26. Susan says:

@PamG: I checked to see if the third book in the series would be something like Bottoms Up. Sadly, I guess I’ll need to wait for the next innuendo-laden title.
