Links: Golden Girls, A Star is Born, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hey there! Welcome to Links! This is a weekly dose of fun stuff around the internet, and I hope it serves as a reminder to take a break for yourself during the day. Has spring sprung for you yet? Not for me! And I’m doing my best to reduce the amount of times I have to leave the house this week.

Amy Poehler is slated to direct the Netflix adaptation of Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu. I’m very excited to see what Poehler is going to do with the project!

If you need a feel-good story this week, I loved this one about a 103-year-old woman was recently sworn in as a junior ranger for Grand Canyon National Park. Congratulations to Rose Torphy!

Frolic and perhaps my favorite writing duo, Christina Lauren, have teamed up to produce a 9-part writing course! Titled “The Know How: Creative Writing with Christina Lauren,” it’s available for $29.99. Not bad! If you try it out, do let me know how it goes.

Love The Golden Girls? I do. I watched it a lot growing up and Blanche is, by far, my favorite. Well, if you’re a fellow Golden Girls fan, a themed cruise will be launching next year in Miami!

“Shallow” from A Star is Born won “Best Original Song” at the Oscars this Sunday. Well, here’s a Star Wars parody for all you Kylo Ren/Rey shippers out there. And you know what? I actually really like it.

..

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Right now I’m getting back into The Eagle’s Heir, a steampunk/alt history text adventure game.

    https://www.choiceofgames.com/eagles-heir/

It’s 1837 in a timeline where Napoleon won the Battle of Waterloo, and you’re the grandchild of his spy-master Madame St. Elme. Grandmere groomed you since childhood to be the bodyguard of Alexandre Walewski, Napoleon’s illegitimate son and contender for the throne, and so you’re well-placed to influence European history. You can help determine who rules after Napoleon’s death: Alexandre, his legitimate half-brother Franz (who’s under the thumb of the Austrians), or the people of France through a Republic. Alexandre and many of the other major characters are real historical figures, and even the steampunk element is rooted in fact. In this timeline, Napoleon funded airship development, and Alexandre and other characters are capable airship pilots.

One cool thing about this game is that you not only get to choose your in-game gender identity – including trans and non-binary identities – but you can choose to have a male persona and female persona you can switch between from scene to scene. Presenting as a man or as a woman in different scenes gives you some different options – for example, if you attend an English house party as a man you can challenge another guest to a duel, but if you attend as a woman you’ll have an easier time sneaking into a lady’s room to deliver her a message.

Finally, there are six interesting romance options – three men and three women:

    -Amalia, Franz’s deadly Austrian bodyguard
-Eugenie, French new-money heiress and airship captain
    -Constance, Princess Victoria’s companion
-Julien, journalist and small-r republican sympathizer based on Alexandre Dumas
-Cassius, revolutionary fighting for a French republic
    -Alexandre, of course

At least a couple of these characters can be involved in a poly relationship – but I’ll leave you to find out who for yourself!

In a lovely example of internet good karma, I found this gem on Rachel Hawkins’ twitter – she was on the Smart podcast recently and is hilarious.
