  • A Notorious Vow

A Notorious Vow by Joanna Shupe

RECOMMENDED: A Notorious Vow by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! This was my first Shupe and I loved it. Feel free to read my review, where I gave it an A-:

This book is a gem. It gave me those starry-eyed, book-drunk feelings that were very reminiscent of when I finished my first Lisa Kleypas historical.

Joanna Shupe returns to New York City’s Gilded Age, where fortunes and reputations are gained and lost with ease—and love can blossom from the most unlikely charade

With the fate of her disgraced family resting on her shoulders, Lady Christina Barclay has arrived in New York City from London to quickly secure a wealthy husband. But when her parents settle on an intolerable suitor, Christina turns to her reclusive neighbor, a darkly handsome and utterly compelling inventor, for help.

Oliver Hawkes reluctantly agrees to a platonic marriage . . . with his own condition: The marriage must end after one year. Not only does Oliver face challenges that are certain to make life as his wife difficult, but more importantly, he refuses to be distracted from his life’s work—the development of a revolutionary device that could transform thousands of lives, including his own.

Much to his surprise, his bride is more beguiling than he imagined. When temptation burns hot between them, they realize they must overcome their own secrets and doubts, and every effort to undermine their marriage, because one year can never be enough.

  • Unmasked by the Marquess

Unmasked by the Marquess by Cat Sebastian

Unmasked by the Marquess by Cat Sebastian is 99c! This is the first book in the Regency Imposters series and has a non-binary heroine, who uses she/her pronouns. Some readers felt the plot was a bit all over the place, while others loved this queer historical. Have you read it?

    The one you love…

Robert Selby is determined to see his sister make an advantageous match. But he has two problems: the Selbys have no connections or money and Robert is really a housemaid named Charity Church. She’s enjoyed every minute of her masquerade over the past six years, but she knows her pretense is nearing an end. Charity needs to see her beloved friend married well and then Robert Selby will disappear…forever.

May not be who you think…

Alistair, Marquess of Pembroke, has spent years repairing the estate ruined by his wastrel father, and nothing is more important than protecting his fortune and name. He shouldn’t be so beguiled by the charming young man who shows up on his doorstep asking for favors. And he certainly shouldn’t be thinking of all the disreputable things he’d like to do to the impertinent scamp.

    But is who you need…

When Charity’s true nature is revealed, Alistair knows he can’t marry a scandalous woman in breeches, and Charity isn’t about to lace herself into a corset and play a respectable miss. Can these stubborn souls learn to sacrifice what they’ve always wanted for a love that is more than they could have imagined?

  • Too Wilde to Wed

Too Wilde to Wed by Eloisa James

Too Wilde to Wed by Eloisa James is $1.99! This is the second book in the Wildes of Lindow Castle series. Some readers admit that this romance made them ugly cry. However, others felt there were a lot of tedious elements keeping the hero and heroine apart.

No one is more surprised than Lord North when he returns from war to find his ex-fiancee in his ancestral home…working as a governess…

The handsome, rakish heir to a dukedom, Lord Roland Northbridge Wilde—known to his friends as North—left England two years ago, after being jilted by Miss Diana Belgrave. He returns from war to find that he’s notorious: polite society has ruled him “too wild to wed.”

Diana never meant to tarnish North’s reputation, or his heart, but in her rush to save a helpless child, there was no time to consider the consequences of working as a governess in Lindow Castle. Now everyone has drawn the worst conclusions about the child’s father, and Diana is left with bittersweet regret.

When North makes it clear that he still wants her for his own, scandal or no, Diana has to fight to keep from losing her heart to the man whom she still has no intention of marrying.

Yet North is returning a hardened warrior—and this is one battle he’s determined to win.

He wants Diana, and he’ll risk everything to call her his own.

  • Passion Favors the Bold

Passion Favors the Bold by Theresa Romain

Passion Favors the Bold by Theresa Romain is $1.99! This is the second book in the Royal Rewards series and Sarah gave it a B:

Rushed and hurried resolutions aside, I still enjoyed so much of this book, and recommend it to anyone who likes thoughtful, character-driven historicals with a bit of mystery and an increasing community of characters not often seen in historicals which surrounds the protagonists.

    DESPERATE MEASURES
Georgette Frost’s time is almost up. On her twenty-first birthday, the protections outlined in her late parents’ will are set to expire. With prospects for employment or marriage unfavorable at best, she decides to leave London and join her brother, Benedict, on a treasure hunt for gold sovereigns stolen from the Royal Mint.

    DANGEROUS LIAISONS
Lord Hugo Starling has always felt protective of his friend Benedict’s sister, Georgette. So when he discovers her dressed in ragged boy’s clothes, about to board a coach for parts unknown, he feels duty bound to join her search. But mystery piles upon mystery as they cross England together, not least of which is the confounded attraction between them. As Georgette leads him to a reward he never expected, Hugo realizes he’s embarked upon the adventure of a lifetime…

  2. Leigh Kramer says:

The first two books in Alyssa Cole’s Loyal League series are on sale for $2.99! They’re fantastic. The third book releases tomorrow and it blew me away!

  3. Nerdalisque says:

Did anyone else find the writing in the Wildes series to be disappointing? To me, it wasn’t up to par compared to the author’s other books. The books read as if they had been written in a hurry or something.

  4. cleo says:

I gave the Cat Sebastian 4 stars on GR, which is very high praise from me. Here’s my mini review –

Cat Sebastian continues to queer historical romance – this time queering the “chicks in pants” trope. I really enjoyed this a lot, although the initial set up that brings the two MCs into contact with each other required major suspension of disbelief on my part. But I just went with it and was rewarded with a funny, emotionally satisfying romance.

If you haven’t read Cat Sebastian, she writes queer Regency romance with a similar feel to Loretta Chase or maybe Julia Quinn. When I started reading her, I felt conflicted about reading such frothy queer historical romances – I’m queer and I don’t know, it seemed kind of exploitive or disrespectful. But the author’s queer and respectful and I’ve decided that damnit, since I enjoy this sort of fluffy het romances, why can’t I get to enjoy reading fluffy queer romances with starry eyed happily ever afters too?

  5. Eliza says:

Cleo, that is an awesome mini review! One click.

  6. EJ says:

I read A Notorious Vow today after seeing it on here. It was really good but it could have been longer. I wanted to wallow around in their happiness some more after all the awful crap other characters put them through.

  7. Cristie says:

    @ Amazon
Sean Kennedy’s Tigers and Devils is 99 cents & Linda Howard’s Cry No More is $1.99.

  8. Diana says:

    @Nerdalisque
Yes, I thought that the desperate duchesses were much better than the Wildes.
Of course, this is Eloisa James we’re talking about, so even her worst is a B+ book.

Also, finally, FINALLY, I got a book with the heroine named Diana. They’re so rare!
