Getaway Girl

Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey is 99c at Amazon and $2.99 elsewhere! This is a standalone contemporary romance and one that I’m excited about because I absolutely love Charleston, SC. Some readers were conflicted about the fact that the hero was indeed ready to marry his fiance before everything went tits up. But I also recommend Bailey for people who love hot sex scenes and dirty talking.
This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape…
After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom. A groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, southern drawl she should not be noticing…
Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. Grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab is $1.99! I know several people (my roommate included) who love Schwab’s writing and essentially will read anything she publishes. But while the description seems really original, some readers were disappointed by how generic it felt. Have you read this one? Let us know what you think in the comments!
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.

Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan is $1.99! This is the first book in the From Manhattan with Love contemporary romance series. Readers loved how fun it was and note there’s some pretty great female friendships. However, others mention slow pacing and the lackluster chemistry between the hero and heroine.
USA TODAY bestselling author Sarah Morgan introduces a sizzling new trilogy about three best friends embracing life—and love—in Manhattan
Cool, calm and competent, events planner Paige Walker loves a challenge. After a childhood spent in and out of hospitals, she’s now determined to prove herself—and where better to take the world by storm than in the exhilarating bustle of Manhattan? But when Paige is let go from the job she loves, she must face her biggest challenge of all—going it alone.
Except launching her own events company is nothing compared to hiding her outrageous crush on Jake Romano—her brother’s best friend, New York’s most in-demand date, and the only man to break her heart. When Jake offers Paige’s fledgling company a big chance, their still-sizzling chemistry starts giving her sleepless nights. But can she convince the man who trusts no one to take a chance on forever?

RECOMMENDED: My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan is $2.99! The film rights for this book have been purchased, so we might be getting an adaptation. Sarah also had something to say:
I recorded a podcast with Julia Whelan when the book came out and I just recorded a follow up where we take a very, very deep dive in the structure and writing of the book. If you’d like to read it before we spoil the dickens out of it (No actual Dickens, though) this is an excellent opportunity to grab your copy!
Set amidst the breathtaking beauty of Oxford, this sparkling debut novel tells the unforgettable story about a determined young woman eager to make her mark in the world and the handsome man who introduces her to an incredible love that will irrevocably alter her future—perfect for fans of JoJo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks.
American Ella Durran has had the same plan for her life since she was thirteen: Study at Oxford. At 24, she’s finally made it to England on a Rhodes Scholarship when she’s offered an unbelievable position in a rising political star’s presidential campaign. With the promise that she’ll work remotely and return to DC at the end of her Oxford year, she’s free to enjoy her Once in a Lifetime Experience. That is, until a smart-mouthed local who is too quick with his tongue and his car ruins her shirt and her first day.
When Ella discovers that her English literature course will be taught by none other than that same local, Jamie Davenport, she thinks for the first time that Oxford might not be all she’s envisioned. But a late-night drink reveals a connection she wasn’t anticipating finding and what begins as a casual fling soon develops into something much more when Ella learns Jamie has a life-changing secret.
Immediately, Ella is faced with a seemingly impossible decision: turn her back on the man she’s falling in love with to follow her political dreams or be there for him during a trial neither are truly prepared for. As the end of her year in Oxford rapidly approaches, Ella must decide if the dreams she’s always wanted are the same ones she’s now yearning for.

I’m not big on first person POV, but I might need to snap up “Getaway Girl.” Sounds awesome, and it’s hard to say no to 4.8 star average for 99 cents!
I loved This Savage Song, though I did see several of the plot twists coming. (Disclaimer: I was “meh” on A Darker Shade of Magic and DNFed the next book in that series.)
I just saw that A Duke by Default by Alyssa Cole is on sale for $1.99
There is a 2 for 1 sale at Audible through tomorrow. Among the romances on sale are several by Sarah MacLean. Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips is part of the sale. The narrator is Anna Fields, who is really great! I think that there was a Tessa Dare on sale too.
Getaway Girl might be my favorite book of 2018 in a year of amazing romance. Super funny, super hot. The hero is a genuinely good guy, a local politician with such a great butt someone made a joke Twitter called @dupontbadonk and the chapters have sample tweets. The heroine takes no crap from anyone and inherits a Christmas store then makes dirty Christmas ornaments for a living. And it’s Tessa Bailey so the sexiness is *fans self*
I loved Getaway Girl! The writing was sharp, the hero was awesome.
Yes, I also loved Getaway Girl… and I’m also loving the sequel (Runaway Girl). This post reminded me to look for the next book, and I’m glad I did.
I loved This Savage Song. It was one of those books that I would find a way work into almost every conversation I was having. I was turning into one of those people that would come up to in the park “I’d like to tell you about my church” only it was “let me tell you about this book I’m reading”
I have the duology on my Kindle, but these are books that will take their place on my bookshelf if I ever find them while out thrifting/garage saleing.
I wish I felt the same way about her Darker Shade of Magic. I bought and it is just sitting in my TBR pile.
I really enjoyed Getaway Girl, and Runaway Girl is just about perfection!
Not sure if anyone’s interested, but it looks like one of the February Harlequin Presents “box set”s is on sale on Amazon for $7.99. I’ve never seen that before for new releases. So it works out to $2 per book, with titles by Maisey Yates, Jane Porter and two more. The other set isn’t on sale the same way.

Highly recommend “My Oxford Year”! I listened to the audiobook and was hooked.
There’s a sale on a bunch of books published by Entangled, looks like mostly historical romance. For the bargain hunters, there’s a 3 book set by Robyn DeHart that’s $0.99.
Add me to the Getaway Girl and Runaway Girl love. I didn’t think I would enjoy Runaway Girl as much as I did, but I thought the story line was excellent.
Been in a romance book funk for a few weeks, unable to get more than two chapters in. Picked up Getaway Girl yesterday while I was feeling sick and it was just what I needed! Finished it this morning.
I bought Runaway Girl lots last night and am about halfway through. It’s a fun read few read.
Oops! That should have said, It’s a fun read.
I grabbed the audiobook for Runaway Girl from my local library based on this thread and OH MY GOD. It was everything promised above and more. It totally raised the contemporary romance bar for me. And the narrator for Addison’s chapters, Lori Prince? A goddess among narrators. She’s going on my short list of favorite narrators based on this one book alone and I’m going to hunt down everything else she’s ever done now because it was PERFECTION.
Thanks for introducing me to my new favorite series!
