  • The Red

    The Red by Tiffany Reisz

RECOMMENDEDThe Red by Tiffany Reisz is 99c at all vendors! This is a book that has all different elements: mystery, romance, paranormal vibes! This earned a B+ grade from Elyse:

Fans of Reisz’s Original Sinners series will gobble this book up. For those looking for erotica without a ton of emotional angst, The Red is right up your alley. It’s a delightful, wicked fairytale and it’s a ton of fun.

Never make a promise you don’t intend to keep…

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother’s art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it’s in the red. She soon realizes she has no choice but to sell it.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting…but surely her mother didn’t mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red…

  • The Anatomist’s Wife

The Anatomist’s Wife by Anna Lee Huber

The Anatomist’s Wife by Anna Lee Huber is $2.99! This is a historical mystery that we tend to recommend on Instagram who want Deanna Raybourn or Lady Sherlock read-alikes. Some people found the prose a bit flowery, while others loved the characters and setting.

Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her husband, Lady Darby has taken refuge at her sister’s estate, finding solace in her passion for painting. But when her hosts throw a house party for the cream of London society, Kiera is unable to hide from the ire of those who believe her to be as unnatural as her husband, an anatomist who used her artistic talents to suit his own macabre purposes.

Kiera wants to put her past aside, but when one of the house guests is murdered, her brother-in-law asks her to utilize her knowledge of human anatomy to aid the insufferable Sebastian Gage—a fellow guest with some experience as an inquiry agent. While Gage is clearly more competent than she first assumed, Kiera isn’t about to let her guard down as accusations and rumors swirl.

When Kiera and Gage’s search leads them to even more gruesome discoveries, a series of disturbing notes urges Lady Darby to give up the inquiry. But Kiera is determined to both protect her family and prove her innocence, even as she risks becoming the next victim…

  • The Winner Takes It All

The Winner Takes It All by Jennifer Dawson

The Winner Takes It All by Jennifer Dawson is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance with an ice queen heroine and forced proximity. Readers loved the humor in this one and the chemistry between the hero and heroine. However, others found the hero’s possessiveness to turn them off.

    For two stubborn people…

Corporate mogul Shane Donovan sees the ultra-cool, collected Cecilia Riley as an ice queen–even if he can’t deny that, on the surface, she’s a work of perfection his body can’t ignore. Forced to spend two weeks in the same house for his sister’s upcoming wedding, Shane senses that deep down Cecilia mirrors his need. And he’s determined to draw her into a sexy game that will melt away her reserve. . .

    Losing is not an option…

Career-driven Cecilia Riley has just enough free time in her schedule to head out of town for her brother’s wedding. But her agenda is thrown for a loop by the presence of Shane. Though his over-confident attitude leaves a lot to be desired, his insanely hot body has kept Cecilia up nights. Unsure what game Shane is playing, Cecilia takes the bait, bent on resisting him at all costs.

But as Shane and Cecilia discover, temptation follows no rules…

  • Men Like This

Men Like This by Roxanne Smith

Men Like This by Roxanne Smith is 99c! This is a contemporary romance with a horror author heroine and an actor hero. Plus, there’s a fake relationship! Though the book is a romance, readers mention that there’s no sex. But many were so captured by the story that the lack of bedroom activities didn’t seem to matter. Anyone interested?

Can she trust a man who pretends for a living?

Horror author Quinn Buzzly knows all about the dark side, but when she meets actor Jack Decker, she’s moved to explore something completely different—at least on paper. With his sexy good looks, intriguing manner, and charming Irish-tinged English accent, Jack is the perfect model for her next hero. Quinn decides to spend one year in London writing a historical romance inspired by him. Until real life butts in…

Jack’s jealous ex-fiancée sparks a media storm when she accuses him and Quinn of having an affair. But Jack knows how to play this game. At his insistence, Quinn agrees to go along with the faux romance until the chatter subsides. Then they’ll stage a quiet breakup and go their separate ways. Yet Jack is a shameless—and irresistibly convincing—flirt, and Quinn has to remind herself it’s an act. Or is it? If Jack means business, he’ll have to find the words to convince a wordsmith that their love is the real thing…

  1. DonnaMarie says:

    So. Much. Catnip!!!

Also, thumbs way up for the Lady Darby books.

  2. Lora says:

I read The Red because the art element was my catnip. I’ll be honest here: The book makes very little sense. So if that’s a consideration to anyone, plot-wise, just be aware.

  3. EllenM says:

The Anatomist’s Wife is my favorite historical mystery series!

  4. Sukari says:

The blurb for The Red has the kind of lazy copy editing that irks me :

“She soon realizes she has no choice but to sell it.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man…”

Unless someone thinks it’s such an important realization it needs to be said twice, in the exact same words.

  5. SusanE says:

I picked up the Lady Darby and also got #4 in the series for 1.99 (at B&N). Now I have to decide if I want to pay full price for the missing books… such hard decisions!

  6. MsCellanie says:

    The Red is weird.
There’s a lot of things I like, but the plot doesn’t really make sense. The ending answers questions that you weren’t really asking and answers them in an unsatisfying way. Also, about 3/4ths of the way through the book, I got the feeling that the author hit her word count and wanted to wrap things up quickly now that there’s enough for a book. (It goes from detailed descriptions to glossing over long periods of time and actions in half a sentence.)

But what it does well, it does really well.

  7. Escapeologist says:

The sample of the Roxanne Smith contemporary has potential. I’ve been on a historical kick for a while, time to change it up! *slaps down 99 cents*

  8. Leigh Kramer says:

I absolutely loved The Red! It’s super steamy and yes, a bit on the bananas side but in the best, most entertaining way.

  9. Georgina says:

Other Minds: The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life by Peter Godfrey-Smith, which Carrie reviewed here a year ago and gave a B+ to, is $2.99 on Amazon AU and $2.12 on Amazon US. It may be on sale on other Amazons as well.

I’ve had my eye on this one for a while, so I snapped it up!

  10. Kathe says:

I loved loved loved the Anatomist’s Wife. Actually I loved the whole series–I wish she wrote faster! While I read the books, I thought this series was particularly good as an audiobook. Some reviewers didn’t like the reader but I thought she was pretty perfect for these particular books. The mystery was good, but light and the romance while light was also good. I agree that some of the descriptive phrases were kind of flowery when I read them but they fit just fine in the audiobook

  11. sally says:

So so so tired of book titles where the woman is invisible except for a man’s job (husband, father, etc). Anatomists wife, Time Traveler’s Wife, Hangman’s Daughter, and I bet about 50 more. I’d love for this to die out. Quickly.
