  • Hate Notes

    Hate Notes by Vi Keeland

Hate Notes by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward is 99c at Amazon! Looking at the Goodreads reviews, there’s a lot of division. It’s either one star or a lot of four and five stars, in terms of ratings. Some readers loved how there was more to this book than they though in terms of an emotional arc, while others seemed to hate one or both main characters. Have you read it?

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story of secondhand hearts and second chances…

It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress.

    Something blue.

I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.”

Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.

The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there. Because I’ve since found out something else about Mr. Starry-Eyed.

He’s arrogant, cynical, and demanding. I should know. Thanks to a twist of fate, he’s my new boss. But that’s not going to stop me from discovering the story behind his last love letter. A love letter that did not result in a happily ever after.

But that story is nothing compared to the one unfolding between us. It’s getting hotter, sweeter, and more surprising than anything I could have imagined.

    Something new.

But I have no idea how this one is going to end . . .

  • The Curse of Lord Stanstead

The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe

RECOMMENDED: The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe is 99c! In fact, all three books in the series are 99c. This is a historical romance with magic and Elyse gave this book a B+:

The Curse of Lord Stanstead is a good fit for readers who are burned out on straight Regency romances and need a dash of spice, or for paranormal readers who are sick of brooding vampires. If The Order of the Muse series follows the usual formula of the second book being stronger than the first, I will be very happy indeed. I already have The Madness of Lord Westfall downloaded on my ereader, ready to go.

    When only seduction will do…

Wherever Cassandra Darkin goes, fire is sure to follow. It’s not until she’s swept into the arms of a handsome, infuriating stranger that she learns she’s responsible for the fires. As it turns out, Cassandra is a fire mage…and with her gift comes a blazing desire for sins of the flesh.

With his pretenatural ability to influence the thoughts of others, Garrett Sterling is sent to gather Cassandra for the Order of the M.U.SE. He’s entirely unprepared for his immediate attraction to the comely little firestarter. But it’s an attraction that he must quell, even as his body craves her touch and her fiery, sensual hunger.

For Garrett’s gift has a dark side…and the moment he begins to care too much for Cassandra, he knows he will doom her to an inescapable fate.

  • The Good Luck Charm

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance that came out late summer of last year. If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance romance, readers on Goodreads recommend this one. But others wished the heroine had more of a backbone when dealing with things.

Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting brilliantly captures the hilarity and heartache of first love and second chances in her sexy new romantic comedy.

Lilah isn’t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

Ethan wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.

Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let Ethan in, though, she finds out their reunion might have nothing to do with love and everything to do with improving his game. But Ethan’s already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he’ll do anything to keep from losing her again.

  • Seducing Charlotte

    Seducing Charlotte by Diana Quincy

Seducing Charlotte by Diana Quincy is 99c! This is the first book in the Accidental Peers series, and you can grab all four books in the series for less than $4. This is an opposites attract romance with a heroine who’s described as a “social reformer.” Some readers felt there was no real tension, while others like the North & South vibe they got from it.

    Opposites attract…

Even if he is the catch of the season, Charlotte Livingston has a low opinion of the wildly handsome Marquess of Camryn. He’s an industrialist who thinks nothing of replacing workers with machines, depriving them of an honest living. Camryn is everything a social reformer like Charlotte detests. Besides, her loyalty belongs to another man.

    Worlds Collide…

Yet, as a violent machine-breakers rebellion rages across England, an undeniable attraction flares between the passionate adversaries. Camryn vows to destroy the rebel movement, unaware that the spinster who has captured his heart, harbors a secret – a shocking connection to one of its leaders that could shatter them both.

  1. DonnaMarie says:

I read Hate Notes just a couple weeks ago, and enthusiastically recommend it. You think you know where you’re going – enemies to lovers – after he is a complete ass at the start of the book, but then it goes where you really don’t see coming in the best angsty, heartrending way.

And I will be checking out those Mia Marlowe books. Yum!

  2. EllenM says:

Curse of Lord Stanstead is cute but I was not particularly compelled to continue with the series. I remember feeling like it was pretty…fluffy?? for a paranormal which is kind of unusual. Would def be interested to see how people felt about the second book.

  3. hng23 says:

    Everything DonnaMarie said.

  4. Katie Lynn says:

I’d call Hate Notes a 4-star for me. There were some things I’d like to change but overall it was well written and took some turns I didn’t see coming, which is *extremely* rare for romance for me.

  5. Wendy Wagner says:

I loved Hate Notes. It was a 5 star read for me.

  6. Jazzlet says:

Hmmm I was sort of tempted by the Curse of Lord Stanstead (even though Stanstead just makes me think of airports), not sure now …

  7. Darlynne says:

For Amazon UK readers, the first two books in Kelley Armstrong’s ROCKTON series are on sale for .99. I haven’t read this series, but the premise sounds intriguing and I really liked her other books.

  8. Darlynne says:

I just noticed that HATE NOTES shows up on Amazon US as $1.99. Did I miss the .99 sale?

  9. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I agree with the comments here on HATE NOTES. At first I thought it was going to be a “manic-pixie-dreamgirl-not-afraid-to-call-her-billionaire-boss-on-his-shit” story—competently done, but nothing we haven’t read a hundred times before. Then there’s a reveal (I won’t say a twist) that takes the story in a completely different, almost melancholy, direction. Also, HATE NOTES has the set-furthest-in-the-future epilogue I’ve ever encountered outside of science fiction.

  10. Ren Benton says:

Since Darlynne jogged my memory of recent sale emails, Kelley Armstrong’s BITTEN is $1.99 (in the US; I don’t know if there’s an equivalent international price reduction).

  11. J says:

I liked The Curse of Lord Stanstead, I liked this whole series. It was fun.

  12. magpie says:

I liked the Curse of Lord Stanstead also, but really paranormal 19th century is my catnip and I will read pretty much anything in this subgenre. It does lay on the fluffy side – more like Amanda Quick’s Arcane society (which I enjoyed more) or the Mad Morelands series than some of the more edgy steampunky historical paranormals.

  13. DonnaMarie says:

@Darlynne, the Rockton series are really good, twisty, a little dark and flavored with a touch of romance.

  14. Carole says:

I enjoyed the Curse of Lord Stanistead and felt the series had potential and gave it 3 out of 5 stars. However I had to DNF the second book The Madness of Lord Westfall due to a sexual encounter between the Head of the Order and Vesta. How he treated her from his place of self-hatred was disappointing and degrading. Up until then I thought as Head of the Order we were supposed to respect and admire him, and after that I just did not care about any of them enough to read on so I toasted it from my Ebook Library.

  15. Raquel says:

I love Hate Notes precisely for that: setting you up for a surprise. It is not what the cover suggests, and nowadays it’s so refreshing. Absolutely worth reading it.

  16. LeslieAnn says:

Seducing Charlotte provides a splendid candidate for your next cover snark episode. Is the hero a nursing father?

  17. Becky says:

When authors advertise a book as “safe,” I take it to mean there isn’t anything in the book that will trigger negative or even particularly strong emotions. Just a nice, fun, sexy read. Keeland and Ward’s books, while not what I would consider triggering, are definitely not safe in that you will not feel unambiguously good after reading them. I read Hate Notes, then another collaboration, Cocky Bastard, both of which are based on common tropes, but then pack a bittersweet, emotional curveball that had me bawling over my kindle. I loved the books, but they are grenades of emotion. Read carefully.
