This HaBO request comes from Joni and she’s searching for a romance written a few decades ago:
Let’s see if I can explain it. Circa late 1980s/early to mid-1990s.
Much (all?) of the story takes place in Israel. A non-Jewish man falls in love with a Jewish woman – after a lot trials they finally marry.
A piece of advice he’s given before the traditional Jewish ceremony (I think he’d converted) is the take a peek under her wedding veil when she arrives at the canopy to make sure she’s “her name”. If Jacob had peeked he’d have seen he was marrying Leah instead of Rachel.
That’s all I really remember.
Not sure if this one is more historical or contemporary.

Possibly one of the Gloria Goldreich books? Leah’s Journey or one of the sequels?
