Cover Awe: UK Covers, Cozy Estates, & More

It’s time to gaze upon some great covers! Here are a few that we’ve been talking about recently.

Promised Land by Rose Lerner. A deep purple cover. There's a silhouette of a woman in a paper parchment die cut. Hebrew is printed on the paper texture.

Sarah: That cover is staggeringly beautiful.

Amanda: Wow. That’s all I can really say.

Sarah: I sent it to Adam: “That cover is gorgeous.”

Like, my jaw dropped when I saw the whole thing.

Carrie: From colors to concept – gorgeous, and tells us what the book is about very simply and effectively.

Archangel's Prophecy by Nalini Singh. A black and white photo of a topless woman facing away from her. She has long blonde hair tossed over one shoulder. On her back are colorful pair of shimmery wings.

Amanda: Proof that the UK gets all the cool stuff!

Carrie: I like that this is unusual – the alabaster figure with the colored wings. At the same time the statuary quality of the figure makes me uncomfortable – maybe it’s supposed to?

Marilla of Green Gables by Sarah McCoy. A woman in a burgundy dress with a blue shawl, walking along a lush green hill. A cute house sits in the background.

Amanda: Anyone else for starting a reading commune on this adorable estate?

CarrieS: As today’s grumpy cat, I don’t want another Green Gables book. BUT that cover is beautiful.

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. A pile of deep green leaves with intricate, delicate, gold metal work. It looks like foliage behind a gorgeous fence.

Sarah: Oh my gosh.

Amanda: I’m not sure if there’s a more beautiful combination that a rich, dark green and a shiny gold.

CarrieS: I’m a sucker for gilding. Love this.

I can appreciate the artistry of that Nalini Singh cover, but as a devoted reader if the books, all I could think was “WTF are those cherub wings doing on Elena’s back?”

  2. Momo says:

Is Promised Land being republished as a stand-alone? If so, awesome; it was by far the best of the three stories in Hamilton’s Battalion.

  3. @Amanda says:

@Momo: You can buy it as a separate ebook now! Same with the rest of the stories, I believe. If you click the cover, it should take you to the link.

I may have done a small squee. That is an exact replica of the Green Gables house in Cavendish PEI. I’ve been there, and at a time when it wasn’t overrun by tourists. Highly recommend that trip to PEI. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g499311-d186971-Reviews-Green_Gables-Cavendish_Prince_Edward_Island.html

  5. I don’t know how I missed Marilla of Green Gables coming out. I’m a terrible Anne fan… Just put a hold on it at my library. I’m #3. It sounds wonderful.

Going to PEI and doing all the Anne and Avonlea stuff is on my bucket list. Anne and Jo March are my fave literary heroines, and the only ones I actually identify with.

Rise Lerner’s books are an auto it for me by now and I thought this was a new one! The stand alone cover is indeed gorgeous Oh well, time to reread Hamilton’s battalion and her other books.
