I loved everything by Grace Draven this year- she started a new series with Phoenix Unbound, and I think a couple other novellas either came out or were re-released as standalones this year, and I love them all.

Not straight-up romance, but I loved “Iron and Magic” by Ilona Andrews. Can’t wait for more!

  10. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Strongly recommend Ella Field’s BLOODSTAINED BEAUTY which works as a subversion of many standard romance tropes. Well-written with an escalating tension that will have you simultaneously dreading turning the next page and being completely unable not to keep reading.

  11. SHU says:

I read a Splendid Defiance by Stella Riley. It was incredible! Its an older book, but I’d never even heard of it before and I’m so glad I stumbled across it. A very well researched, very well written romance between a Puritan girl and royalist soldier during the English Civil War. Highly recommend!

  12. Lily says:

An obvious choice but one I have actually recommended: Helen Hoang’s The Kiss Quotient!

  13. Azure says:

Knotted by Pam Godwin- trigger warning, Handsome cowboy gives love of his life twisty and sexy kind of sex therapy for PTSD after a brutal rape.

And bonus rec- Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone. Fun book!

    Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.

    Jane Doe
There I did it. I’ll need some quiet time now.

  28. Susie says:

Not trying to be funny, but it was a library book sale non-fiction find called…
Le Petomane: a Tribute to the Unique Act Which Shook and Shattered the Moulin Rouge

(also ‘i couldn’t choose just one romance here so will not try!)

A Duke by Default – Alyssa Cole

Side note: Pam Godwin’s KNOTTED, recommended above by @Inga, is free in the Kindle store right now.

  37. Susan says:

My recommendation for a 2018 release is Ilona Andrews’s Iron and Magic. I can’t believe they pulled it off.
