Happy Hanukkah again! We’ve got candles, sufganiyot (jelly donuts that have been on the protein powder all year so they’re MASSIVE) (kidding) (but they are pretty big) and presents!
LOTS of presents for you.
As always, we’re celebrating the SBTB community and all the light and joy you bring, and today’s prize is all about being warm and comfy while you listen to all your favorite things.
Today’s prize is:
A pair of Sudio Tre headphones in white and rose gold!
Big thanks to Sudio for providing this prize! Tak så mycket, y’all!
The Sudio Tre are bluetooth headphones that are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and consistent in their delivery of excellent sound. I really, really like mine. They have a built-in microphone, and a battery life of up to 9 hours.
We’re also pairing them with:
Adorable plush lined slipper socks with CAT FACES on them:

Look at that face! You want your toes to look at you like that, right? Of course.

These socks are for women’s shoe sizes 4-10 (US), and are made of acrylic and polyester. They have plastic skid spots on the bottoms so you don’t slip.
And, finally, we’re going to include a $25 gift card to Amazon, suitable for use on books, audiobooks, or more socks – your choice!

In our family we celebrate “Birthday Week”—we started this when my daughter was tiny so that if her actual birthday was a letdown she got a few more chances. We all enjoyed it so much we’ve kept the tradition going ever since.
Drinking mulled wine and decorating the Christmas tree.
I love making a big Christmas Eve dinner with standing rib roast, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. Thanks for the giveaway!
We go to something called Festival of trees every year where trees are decorated by individuals and groups and all proceeds are donated to our local children’s hospital.
I think I just like the big gathering that happens at my parents’ house. We have snacks, wine, board games, we open presents, there’s music. It’s pretty standard, but it’s the one time of year that we’re all in one place.
My favorite holiday tradition is actually my halloween personal horror movie marathon. Though our Christmas cookie baking marathon is a close second.
Decorating the tree while listening to Christmas RECORDS (circa 1967)
Doing puzzles with my dad at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Starting the holiday baking season with ‘Stollen’ (a traditional fruit cake) sometime in november, preferebly together with family and friends.
Polish wigilia and midnight mass.
One of our friends always hosts New Years Eve at her house and then we all sleep over so that we can safely drink as much as we want. In the last few years, they’ve started holding New Years Eve Olympics in which we all divide into teams of 3 and play silly games. I’ve managed to be on the winning team every year, even though my teammates have changed every time!
Every year my sister and I got to pick out a new ornament for the Christmas tree. The ornament was representative of something important or a current interest/passion. I <3 looking at my tree now, seeing each year and remembering why I chose it. It's fascinating to line them all up chronologically and see how my interests developed, what changed, and what hasn't changed a whole lot. Three years in a row I chose an ornament that involved someone on a swing! I clearly really liked the playground swings as a kid and my favorite ride is still the giant swings in the air at the carnivals/amusement park.
Cookies and time off!
My favorite is everything to do with Christmas lights – putting them up, and looking at everyone else’s.
A tradition just in the past few years, but going to a movie then getting KFC for Xmas Eve dinner. I never ever eat at KFC otherwise, but it makes me nostalgic for the Christmases I spent living in Japan.
My favorite holiday tradition is baking cookies and cakes for/with family, then decorating them. Of course, we have to eat the ‘mistakes’….
Most of our family traditions involve the making of old family recipes. My family background on both sides is German from Russia; my late dad would be the one to cook a special family recipe of dark chocolate caramels (that I am, at 53, still trying to perfect), peppernuts, bread, sweet rolls and more. Today, my mom and I do our best to continue that tradition. My husband makes his family’s traditional thin and spicy ginger cookies.
My favorite holiday tradition is putting up the 6 ft plywood dinosaurs in the yard. My parents made about 10 back when I was a kid and they are still going strong!
We have a floppy plastic vampire bat that we hide somewhere on the Christmas tree each year.
We have Christmas Eve nachos, at some point we see the lights at the zoo as a family.
I am a fan of the grand tradition of baking and eating all the cookies.
I like gift giving, for whatever holiday.
Watching the 1951 adaptation of A Christmas Carol (Scrooge) staring Alistar Sim at midnight on Christmas Eve. This is truly the best of the Scrooge movies.
On Christmas Eve, our family always gets Chinese takeout and watches the movie Elf. After that, we’re allowed to open one present each. Later in the evening, we watch the movie version of Rent (because the opening scene takes place on Christmas Eve)
For our Advent calendar, each day there is a note from Santa with a clue on where to find something. The kids are 13 and 9, so not a huge challenge for them anymore, but sometimes we manage to stump them!
Watching live or recorded performances of “The Nutcracker” and talking about them afterwards over a hot beverage with cookies.
Baking cookies while White Christmas plays on TV.
Vast quantities of food for Christmas, with full advantage of the Australian summer harvest.
I re-read at least one Christmas-themed book at some point during the season. For a period of about 5 years, this was Agatha Christie’s Murder for Christmas. Which in hindsight seems like an odd, weird thing to do. More recently, I re-read Dickens’ A Christmas Carol 🙂
Christmas breakfast! When I was a kid we had it at my uncle’s house with all the cousins in Christmas morning. Now we have it at my mother’s with my brother’s family and mine, and it’s on Christmas afternoon. But we still have all the breakfast foods, including my grandmother’s beloved rolls.
Decorating the house and Christmas tree!
So many choices: I love singing with our church choir and playing my French horn at our church Christmas Concert
When I was a kid, I used to like going door to door singing Christmas carols and coming back to hot chocolate. Maybe I should revive that.
Making lefse with my mom at Christmas time. It’s a pain in the ass, but totally worth it 🙂
Christmas morning cinnamon rolls
I love so many Christmas traditions, but decorating the house and putting lights up outside is really special
Setting up our miniature Christmas village and eating all the comfort food that seems to be everywhere this time of year.
Every year my family throws this huge holiday party for all of our friends and neighbors.
Watching the original Miracle on 34th Street!
Having Shrimp and Crab for Christmas dinner.
