Happy Hanukkah again! We’ve got candles, sufganiyot (jelly donuts that have been on the protein powder all year so they’re MASSIVE) (kidding) (but they are pretty big) and presents!
LOTS of presents for you.
As always, we’re celebrating the SBTB community and all the light and joy you bring, and today’s prize is all about being warm and comfy while you listen to all your favorite things.
Today’s prize is:
A pair of Sudio Tre headphones in white and rose gold!
Big thanks to Sudio for providing this prize! Tak så mycket, y’all!
The Sudio Tre are bluetooth headphones that are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and consistent in their delivery of excellent sound. I really, really like mine. They have a built-in microphone, and a battery life of up to 9 hours.
We’re also pairing them with:
Adorable plush lined slipper socks with CAT FACES on them:

Look at that face! You want your toes to look at you like that, right? Of course.

These socks are for women’s shoe sizes 4-10 (US), and are made of acrylic and polyester. They have plastic skid spots on the bottoms so you don’t slip.
And, finally, we’re going to include a $25 gift card to Amazon, suitable for use on books, audiobooks, or more socks – your choice!

Playing a new game with my kids every year on Christmas Eve!!
When I was growing up we would try to attend Christmas Eve service at our local Unitarian church. Singing Silent Night while passing the candle flame around the sanctuary was something that has always stuck with me. Unfortunately, I haven’t continued the tradition of attending the service as an adult, but I still light candles on Christmas Eve for myself and the critters.
We do a big fancy meal christmas eve and then basically lay around and do nothing on Christmas day. We usually have another nice meal together late afternoon on Christmas day. It’s simple and nice.
Spritz cookies!
My favorite tradition is starting on December 2nd, it’s Christmas music all the time!!!
My family exchanges one gift on or near Yule; then we wait till Christmas morning for the rest. We have a lasagna that was made on Christmas Eve or the day before for our Christmas dinner, and we always use paper plates and plasticware. Fun times!
I’m actually still trying to find a tradition with my son that we can continue. The closest I have though is making chocolate chip peppermint cookies since I’ve done that for the last three or four years.
We bake a couple of pies and leave out portions for some of our family members who have passed away (my father, grandparents, an uncle). We also open one gift at midnight!
We don’t have a lot of traditions in my family, other than the usual get together, exchange gifts, eat to much ones. Maybe my favorite moment is the evening where I don’t have anywhere to go or a project to finish or something to clean or people insisting on spending time with me, when I can just curl up on the sofa i with a warming beverage and just the tree lights on. Bliss.
My favorite holiday tradition is going on a hayride through Winterhaven, which is a housing neighborhood that puts on a massive display of lights and decorations at each house every year. It’s great and they collect donations for the food bank too.
Hanging the stockings.
Every year for Hanukkah, I host the annual borscht and latke feast. I make my grandmother’s fleishig borscht in her soup pot along with lots of latkes and other good food. I also make a vegetarian barley mushroom soup for those who don’t eat meat.
Most of the traditions from my childhood have died out, but a bunch of my extended family members(who are Christian, Jewish, Muslim and atheist) live in the New York area & we meet every year for dinner sometime around the holidays. This year the restaurant will be Bell, Book & Candle in the Village, so I’m looking forward to it!
A friend of mine used to receive hand sewn pj’s for her kids from their aunt every year. She would pass them along to me (my kids were younger and hence smaller). I made some myself for a few years, but my sewing machine fell into disrepair. However, even though my kids are now aged 19-27, they still like it when I get them “Christmas pajamas”. I have a lot of fun trying to find designs they will be amused by and also want to wear.
Growing up I spent Xmas eve with my mom, and Xmas with my dad. We ate pizza every year. It was the best.
My favorite holiday tradition at this time of year is putting up a very short, fresh tree–just like me!
My favorite holiday tradition is the New Year’s party we have. When I was growing up New Year’s sucked for a lot of reasons. But my wonderful husband is from Ukraine and consequently New Year’s is THE holiday for him. So, ever since we’ve been married (12 years!) we have thrown a great, family-friendly New Year’s party. And because we are all introverts, we make it perfect for introverts 🙂 My awesome sister and her husband always make it a point to join us, and, in her words, New Year’s now “rocks.” Now a holiday that my sister and I hated as children is something fun and meaningful for us all to celebrate.
I’ve taken a Christmas photo with my cats every year since I adopted them three years ago, so it’s a relatively new tradition. I dressed them in sweaters the first year, but I’ve switched to bowties and bandanas so they don’t scratch holes in me or my ugly sweaters.
The Advent Calendar. I mean who doesn’t like rushing home after work to have a piece of chocolate hidden behind a cardboard door? It is the Christmas Season after all.
I go to brunch with my cousin before we head back for the big meal.
I’m a big fan of making a bunch of different cookies and candies to give away, which I always did with my grandma as a kid.
My favorite tradition is baking lots of goodies in preparation for Holiday dinners!
Usually on a Saturday, we dress in our jammies and decorate the house then have a movie marathon.
Every year since my daughter was three years old (she is eighteen now!), we have gone to see a local production of The Nutcracker ballet on Christmas Eve and then go out to lunch afterward. I was worried that as she got older, she’d lose interest, but we both really love this tradition.
One of my very favourite Christmas traditions is actually made possible by friends of me and my husband, who every year, about a week or so before Christmas invite all their friends over to their apartment for homemade Christmas cookies, hot cocoa and a chance to chat and swap presents. Because we have a lot of mutual friends, that’s one place we can all meet up for a few hours and pretty much be guaranteed to catch one another before everyone goes off to do their own things.
A trip to Kauai for the Winter Solstice!
Turning over the days on my mom’s homemade felt advent calendar.
My favorite holiday tradition is watching White Christmas with my family, while eating our filet mignon on Christmas Day!
My favorite holiday tradition is escaping it all each year with a trip to St. Martin. My husband and I have been doing that for the last 15 years. Nothing beats drinking champagne on the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean on Christmas Day!
Our church’s Christmas music festival, followed by brunch!
My favorite holiday tradition is going to the Lessons of Carols at the big cathedral in my city. The sound of the male choir is awesome.
After my grandmother passed, I took on the role of cookie maker for our family. I now make the traditional Italian cookies she made at Christmas for everyone, and though I miss her terribly at this time of year, making the cookies always reminds me of her and the best Christmases.
Baking with the kids. Reading A Visit from St. Nicholas on Christmas Eve.
Making homemade, jelly-filled doughnuts (aka sfgonyout) for Hanukkah. The Great Jelly-Filled Fry Off 2018 is scheduled for this Saturday!
My favourite holiday is Passover and my favourite tradition is making spinach gnocchi from a kosher for passover Italian Jewish cookbook my mom picked up somewhere. Growing up we only ever made them for seder and they are delicious so I’ve carried on the tradition in my own family.
Seeing a performance of the nutcracker for Christmas. It just makes the season for me.
My holiday tradition is baking all the delicious things for anyone who’ll eat them! As a baker, I love the holidays for this reason
Decorating the tree together as a family; the kids can mostly do it themselves now, which is a far cry from the clumps of ornaments a foot off the ground when we first started, LOL!
Christmas dinner! Lately it’s been family medical issues around holidays so I’m hoping for dinner.
Favorite holiday tradition is downtime with Christmas movies – like Desk Set and Die Hard 😉
