This holiday I wanted to celebrate some of things that have given me joy this year. The theme for this Hanukkah giveaway is knitting and nerdery.
The knitting community is largely female, and it’s also super nerdy. It’s a very safe place to express your joy over The Doctor being a woman or Captain America’s beard. There are knit-alongs that celebrate nerd culture, tv shows and movies. Even big dyers like Madelinetosh get in the game with their Black Panther and Stranger Things collections.
First things first, I’m including some romance novels in this giveaway. Shocking, I know. I’ll include several books, and try to make sure they cover a variety of sub-genres.
Next up I’m including one of my absolute favorite knitting books: Unobtainables: Fake Elements, Real Knits by Allison Sarnoff and Heatherly Walker.
I have gotten so much mileage out of this book, you guys.
This book features 25 patterns inspired by Marvel (Captain America’s socks!), DC (Wonder Woman’s bracelets!), Star Wars, Star Trek, and more fandoms. These patterns include shawls, scarves and socks, and utilize the techniques of cabling, colorwork and lacework. It’s appropriate for intermediate knitters.
This book features a lot of sock patterns, which is why I love it so much. Socks are my jam.
First of all, socks knit up quickly, and secondly they offer the perfect blend of TV knitting and paying attention to keep my brain happy. Plus sock yarn is beautiful and you only need one skein to make a pair of socks.
I’m including some of that beautiful sock yarn in this giveaway too. Both of these dyers are from Wisconsin and the yarn was sourced my local little yarn shop Fibre. Shop small and local!
The first skein is from Critical Sheep Yarn. This is their D4 Fingering weight yarn, 436 yards in 75% superwash merino/ 25% nylon. The colorway is called Autumn Fire and it’s really bright and beautiful.
The second skein is from Black Cat Fibres. This is their Nomad Sock yarn, a 4-ply fingering weight yarn. This skein is 463 yards, 75% superwash merino /25% nylon. The colorway is called Monet. I love the dash of teal in this yarn. I’m also adding a Black Cat reusable tote bag that doubles as a project bag. This tote has pockets! It’s great for stashing yarn or hauling groceries.
Finally, I’m including some stitch markers from Wee Ones. I discovered this vendor at Rhinebeck, and I love her products so much. I’ve purchased her dog breed stitch markers for my friends as holiday gifts, and I have a set of cat stitch markers for myself.
I was almost tempted to keep these cats wearing Pussy Hats for myself, but they’re such a great celebration of knitting and feminism that I knew I had to include them in this giveaway.

Yes, the MCU, but before that for me are the Star Wars and Star Trek universes. Those were definitely part of my formative years 🙂 And while I don’t play, since my brother voiced one of its characters, I kind of follow the videogame Overwatch. (My youngest plays, but says his uncle’s character is too hard to master easily 😉 ) Super cute giveaway today!
I love anime – Gintama in particular. Star Wars was part of my teenage years. I even saw the original airing of the notorious Star Wars Holiday Special!

As you might be able to tell, I’m a big fairy tale fan ;). I also get super nerdy over old weird folk songs (think Tam Lin, Young Hunting & The Two Sisters) – all love, death, faeries, and magic birds. I’ve also been a huge fan of Doctor Who since I was nine!
I’m a huge nerd of all kinds of flavors. I like Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, MCU, Firefly, The Sandman comics, Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, the Dresden Files, Mercy Thompson, the Tortall novels, etc.
I love Futurama!
But my all-time favorite thing is the Critical Role show, just a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors sitting around and playing dungeons and dragons.
One of my fave fan things is Broadway shows, and more specifically, I am a Hamilfan (Hamilton)
I’m a fan of any tv show that ended way before its time: Prey; Space: Above and Beyond; Firefly; New Amsterdam (the original). So many more…

Mine’s gotta be Star Wars. I first saw it when I was nine or ten, and it was the first time I was really transported by a movie. I ended up with all the books, the games, the expanded universe encyclopedia, you name it… While I’m not quite as hard core as I used to be about it, it’s still my top fandom.
I love old Hollywood musicals – I can’t dance, my singing is marginal, but when I watch these movies I feel happy.
We are a Marvel family all the way! Can’t wait to see Captain Marvel in March.
I live for fannish loves, basically. At the moment it’s, no really, Voltron but also Daredevil, The Flash and always and forever Harry Potter, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
Harry Potter, third year in a row trying to convince my 10yr old to read it. So chuffed my nephew picked up the first one and devoured it in a day.
While I like a lot of different fandoms, I am definitely a Lord of the Rings fangirl–I dressed up as Sam my senior year in high school (for the midnight release of the last movie) and I knew I wanted to get to know the man who is now my husband because his AIM screenname included “hobbit.”
I’m a big Game of Thrones fan. Also enjoy Doctor Who and Marvel.
I am currently re-reading all the Harry Potter books (on audible, so is that technically re-listening??) while listening to the binge mode Harry Potter podcast. And I just went to the New York Historical Society Harry Potter exhibit’s “Sorcery Saturday” event for what was essentially Harry Potter crafts for grownups+alcohol. It was amazing!
I wish there was more fangirl stuff for Mercy Thompson or Kate Daniels. But mostly I have a lot of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff.
Game of Thrones and the MCU. Now there’s a mashup for ya.
These days, probably Outlander, between the new season out, and the re-read I’m in the midst of.
My current obsession is watching Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir performances. It really helps that YouTube is a treasure trove of fan videos about them. So good!
Something else I’m nerding out about is bullet journaling on YouTube. Watching other people craft well is very relaxing. Also, people are so creative. It’s awe-inspiring

Those pussy hats cats!! Just had to teach my phone a new word, Haha. Lifelong Star Wars fan (I’m the person saying all the lines of the original trilogy along with the characters, shockingly my husband doesn’t enjoy this) but I love any of the less serious Marvel movies.

Definitely Star Wars. Some of my best memories are of my Dad taking me to to see The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi at our local Drive-In theatre. I am also a huge fan of the “A Song Of Ice and Fire” series and have an embarrassingly large collection of Game of Thrones Funko Pops
The last thing I truly needed out over yesterday was musical theater. I am a cliche but it is one of my favorite things to go to. It truly makes the old theater nerd in me happy.
I have watched Captain America The Winter Solder at least 30 times!

Hmm. Just looking around my desk, I see Ein from Cowboy Bebop, a Ringwraith, JiJi from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Anton Ego from Ratatouille, Daniel Hall son of Dream from The Sandman, and Eeyore. I’m rewatching the first season of Stranger Things (it’s Christmasy–sort of). I just finished the latest Ilona Andrews’ Legacy novella. And when I grow up I want to be Peggy Carter!
I’m a huge Doctor Who fan. Probably my main fandom although I love Marvel movies, especially Deadpool. Bookwise I’ve been totally obsessed with Sarah J. Maas’s ACOTAR and Throne of Glass series.
Star Trek and Doctor Who are big ones for me! But there is much nerdery in my life…
Sherlock Sherlock Sherlock! I will watch and read almost anything about Sherlock Holmes, (even though nothing will beat the original stories), but my love for Sherlock is its own creature. It is just so brilliant. I also love Doctor Who. The season 7 finale almost had me in tears last night.
In terms of novels, I am begging my friends to read anything by Sherry Thomas and Naomi Novik. Thank you to you all for introducing me to them!
