Personal: I’m hoping for less pain in my ankles so I can resume hiking in 2019.

Sociopolitical: a shining example of dignified, compassionate statesmanship to give me hope for the future. Doesn’t have to be USian. I’ll take my hope where I can get it. (And despite the gender bias of the English language, it doesn’t have to be a dude.)

  2. KellyM says:

My hope for 2019 is 1) to learn to deep breath and relax and (hopefully) finally release my chronic worrying that is not only pointless but is destroying my health and relationships. 2) To make a difference, spread hope and be the person my mirror can be proud of. 3) Make a significant dent in my Guinness book worthy TBR pile by reading more and adding less.

  3. Starling says:

I hope to be ABD in 2019. Maybe even gainfully employed at a non-student job!

  4. Carrie says:

In 2019 I graduate college, and I hope I’ll be able to find a decent job after graduation that will let me afford to pay more then minimum payments on my student loans.

Also I hope to be able to up my books read goal from 24 to like, 48 or 60 and meet it! Woo.

  5. Violet Bick says:

I’m hoping to make more use of the libraries in my area, especially free events such as concerts, lectures, movies, classes, etc. I’d also like to join a book club and expand my reading horizons.

  6. Claire C says:

I’m hoping to make more times for friends and family next year. I’ve had a strange few years dealing with divorce and getting used to a new normal and have often found it easier to retreat into a book or online than spend face to face time with my friends. My aim for 2019 is to be more present in the lives of those around me.

  7. elianara says:

If everything goes according to plan I should be done with my studies in June. I hope for a new job in my new field, and a steady paycheck and some time off for the first time in four years.

  8. Kelsey C. says:

For 2019 I’m excited because I’ll be taking my first trip to London and Paris in the fall with a friend.
I’m also looking forward to all the amazing books that are coming out.

  9. Anony Miss says:

I just want a year in which “conquering my TBR pile” makes the top 10… 😉

  10. ms bookjunkie says:

For 2019, I hope to DO THINGS NOW. As in, not plan stuff for Future Me to do that Present Me doesn’t want to be bothered with but is sure Future Me won’t mind. Enough with the magical thinking, more with the “let’s just do a quick and dirty job of it NOW and not procrastinate as usual.”

  11. Francesca says:

I’m hoping to let go of worrying about things that aren’t under my control, especially at work. Sometimes you’ve got to sit back and let the shit hit the fan.

  12. Lostshadows says:

I’m hoping for a less book slumpy year.

  13. Another Kate says:

I’m looking forward to a beach vacation in January!

For the year as a whole, I’m hoping for less social media time and more book time…

  14. JILL Q. says:

I’m hoping to finish up my certificate program and get a part time job in this new field I really enjoy.

  15. TamB. says:

For 2019 I want to continue to enjoy time with my family and (some of) my extended family (and survive, with good books and knitting, the visits of the more toxic members). I have a few friends facing health issues, so I hope I can offer them some support. I’m currently setting some knitting goals and I plan to actually check them this coming year, rather than get distracted by all the pretty yarn and new pattern ideas. There are some great new books due out in 2019 so I hope to get some quality time with my kindle and a cup of tea.

Wishing everyone a wonderful “glitter worthy” 2019.

  16. Sarah S. says:

Not to kill the vibe, but this past year has been horrific. My only goal really is to somehow have 2019 be better than this one. It’s a really low bar, but the way things have gone who knows?

  17. Sam says:

I really hope things get a lot (or even slightly) better next year for the world.

For me: To engage in more self-care, to get back to cooking and baking (which I have really missed).

For work: To complete two massive projects with minimal tears and hair rending/teeth gnashing.

  18. peggy h says:

Having recently read Marie Kondo’s book on the “Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up”, I hope to de-clutter and tidy up! We are remodeling our bathrooms as well, so that would all work out!

Thank you for the chance to win awesome gifts–I love the fun of just joining and reading everyone’s comments!

  19. Francene says:

For 2019 I want to clean up our second bedroom and make it into a reading sanctuary with space for yoga and a comfy reading nook.it’s been full of leftover kitchen stuff since we remodeled three years ago. Time to clear it out.

  20. Kaye55 says:

I’ll be retiring in 2019, so am looking forward to more time for books!

  21. Rebecca says:

My big big big hope for 2019 is that the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act passes and the US finally does something big about climate change.

On the personal side, I hope to do more myself to make a positive impact on climate, locally and nationally- I see a lot of letter writing and bicycle riding in my 2019!

  22. Gillian says:

I’m hoping to make more time for presence and spontaneity in my city. I want to find ways to not think twice about dipping into that cute new coffee shop or strolling a street I’ve never walked down. Oh, and to read, read, READ!

  23. I’m hoping for a better work/life balance and especially more time to read for fun.

  24. Megan T says:

I’m hoping (and working towards) a promotion in 2019.

  25. rissatoo says:

I have several goals for 2019, and I’ve been trying to prioritize. I’ve decided earning a new license will be the most beneficial to helping me attain a couple more goals on the list. Look out 2019! I’m gonna work it!

  26. Katy L says:

I’m hoping for so many things: personally, a new job closer to family (or failing that, changes for the better in my current job), getting my house organized and decluttered, catching up on craft projects, and yes, reducing the size of Mount TBR. In the wider world, I’d love to see more civility in public life and less bigotry.

  27. Kat says:

Hoping to relocate and decrease commuting time, so I can use that time for more important (to me) things.

  28. Crystal says:

Mostly my hope for 2019 is to get my house rebuilt and repaired from the damage it took in Hurricane Michael. Other than that, ace my Cataloging and Classification class in the spring, exercise regularly, and read some stuff. I’m a woman of simple goals this year.

  29. Judy says:

Professional Goals: To not let things get to me; or to not give my f*cks away so freely.

Personal Goals: To acknowledge my talents through actions instead of just talking about them.

  30. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I hope that 2019 is the year my husband and I finally tackle cleaning out our garage. We do have enough room to park our cars in it—barely!—but every available shelf and wall is crammed with the accumulated stuff of the almost two decades we’ve lived in our house. I think we’ll have to go the rent-a-dumpster route…and I’ll know they’ll be the inevitable moments of “How can I throw away something my [now adult] kids made in kindergarten?” Would also love to clear out/de-clutter my kitchen cabinets, but that may be a 2020 goal!

  31. Kris L. says:

More time to relax and read in 2019.

  32. Patricia M. says:

I would like my daughter to find a decently paid and decently rewarding job.

For my country, I want us to choose decency and caring over hate and offended privilege

  33. Sarah says:

In 2019, I want to take more risks. I especially want to make sure I stand up for myself by speaking up, particularly at work. 2018 was a pretty lousy year for me personally, but I did find my voice amid a lot of challenges.

  34. No, the Other Anne says:

In 2019, I hope you each get the fulfillment and empowerment you desire. I’m constantly floored by the compassion and respect expressed here in these comments. This space means a lot to me, and I wish you all the very best, each and every one.

  35. Natasha Rebello says:

I want to improve my relationship with food in 2019. I want to start enjoying food again without the guilt

  36. Melinda says:

I’m hoping to get my fibro under control and to work less in 2019.

  37. harthad says:

My goals tend to be the same from year to year: Work on eating healthier, getting more exercise, being less judgmental and more patient. I don’t ever completely succeed, but it’s good to keep trying. I think I’m adding “age gracefully” to the list this year.

  38. Donel says:

Trying to be more patient with everyone.

  39. Jessica says:

Thanks for the giveaway! I’m hoping to take better care of myself in 2019. In addition to eating better and working out regularly, I want to spend more time with my loved ones and to not get as caught up in little things.

  40. AuntieKristin says:

I would like to see Trump stay off Twitter.
