Links: A Book Club, a Ballet, & an Excerpt

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Happy Wednesday! I have a healing tattoo of my cat in space and supposedly Boston is getting its first snow this week. I’m not ready and sincerely hope that doesn’t happen. If you’re in the Midwest, I know you already have snow and I’m deeply sorry.

The so-bad-it’s-good movie, Jupiter Ascending, is being remade as a ballet! You have my attention. And if you missed it, check out RHG and Carrie’s joint review of the movie. It earned a coveted F+.

Smart Podcast, Trashy Books made this awesome list of literary podcasts to listen to over at The Washington Post. Guess who else we’re listed with? LeVar-freaking-Burton!

Do you love romance novels and are in the New England area? Because I’m happy to announce that I’m running a romance book club next year at Porter Square Books in Cambridge, MA! I’m so excited and we’d love to have you.

I don’t want to make the executive decision on what everyone should read, so we’re currently taking reading suggestions via a Google Form. I’ll randomly select three and then put it up for a poll in the Facebook group. I’m all about that democratic process!

Elizabeth Hoy’s brand new historical romance series begins at the end of the year! If you’re curious, Frolic.Media has an excerpt of Not the Duke’s Darling.

I don’t play League of Legends, but I do listen to Korean pop music. Which means I’m addicted to this music video they created for four of their most popular female characters.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

How did I miss the review of Jupiter Ascending? The good news is that my library has several versions of this movie, including a DVD BlueRay version with 3 discs, so I can choose which version (standard, BlueRay 2D and BlueRay 3D). Some discs also have special features. I’m #1 on the hold list so I may watch it over Thanksgiving instead of football.

  2. Kelsey says:

Me, skimming the preview of this post: Cat tattoo… Snow in Boston… Sorry Midwesterners…

Me, coming to an immediate halt at the words “Jupiter Ascending” and “Ballet” in the same sentence: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASP

As a huge fan of ballet, Channing Tatum as a space-angel-werewolf, and Eddie Redmayne screaming while dressed in high goth couture, I am at least 112% on board.

@Andrea It’s so bad and so very good. Way better than football, in my opinion. You know how Michael Bay has said things along the lines of, I make movies for 12-year-old boys and there is nothing wrong with that? This is the Wachowskis being like, let’s get someone to give us a truck full of money and make a movie for 12-year-old girls and those who are 12-year-old girls at heart.

At NOR, Maya Rodale makes some romance reading suggestions for November:

    Jupiter Ascending Ballet?

That is as ridiculous as the movie! And therefore, I need it in my life.

BTW, I never would have watched the movie without your review. Thanks for that. (Though my brother still complains that I can’t grade Eurovision performers in unicorns and glitter bombs)

  7. Sue says:

A+++ Wednesday links post! I loved, LOVED Jupiter Ascending and I don’t care who knows it. It was batshit and I enjoyed every second of the movie. Wish you guys had roving Book Clubs in your own respective cities or like, Google Hangout broadcasts of them? Wish this had been a thing while I still lived in Boston!
