  • A Certain Age

A Certain Age by Williams Beatriz

A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is a historical fiction novel set in New York’s Jazz Age. This book was released earlier this summer and readers loved the sense of place Williams created. It’s also a retelling of an opera, which is pretty cool! However, others found the story a bit underwhelming compared to the jacket copy. It has a 3.6-star rating on Goodreads.

The bestselling author of A Hundred Summers brings the Roaring Twenties brilliantly to life in this enchanting and compulsively readable tale of intrigue, romance, and scandal in New York Society, brimming with lush atmosphere, striking characters, and irresistible charm.

As the freedom of the Jazz Age transforms New York City, the iridescent Mrs. Theresa Marshall of Fifth Avenue and Southampton, Long Island, has done the unthinkable: she’s fallen in love with her young paramour, Captain Octavian Rofrano, a handsome aviator and hero of the Great War. An intense and deeply honorable man, Octavian is devoted to the beautiful socialite of a certain age and wants to marry her. While times are changing and she does adore the Boy, divorce for a woman of Theresa’s wealth and social standing is out of the question, and there is no need; she has an understanding with Sylvo, her generous and well-respected philanderer husband.

But their relationship subtly shifts when her bachelor brother, Ox, decides to tie the knot with the sweet younger daughter of a newly wealthy inventor. Engaging a longstanding family tradition, Theresa enlists the Boy to act as her brother’s cavalier, presenting the family’s diamond rose ring to Ox’s intended, Miss Sophie Fortescue—and to check into the background of the little-known Fortescue family. When Octavian meets Sophie, he falls under the spell of the pretty ingénue, even as he uncovers a shocking family secret. As the love triangle of Theresa, Octavian, and Sophie progresses, it transforms into a saga of divided loyalties, dangerous revelations, and surprising twists that will lead to a shocking transgression . . . and eventually force Theresa to make a bittersweet choice.

Full of the glamour, wit and delicious twists that are the hallmarks of Beatriz Williams’ fiction and alternating between Sophie’s spirited voice and Theresa’s vibrant timbre, A Certain Age is a beguiling reinterpretation of Richard Strauss’s comic opera Der Rosenkavalier, set against the sweeping decadence of Gatsby’s New York.

  • Born in Blood

Born in Blood by Alexandra Ivy

Born in Blood by Alexandra Ivy is 99c! This is the first book in her Sentinels series and features a cop hero. In the series, supernatural beings also exist in the world, though many try to live on a protected compound in the Midwest called Valhalla. Some readers felt sex between the hero and heroine happened way too quickly, while others enjoyed a paranormal romance without the usual werewolves and vampires. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

In a stunning new paranormal romance series—even edgier than her bestselling Guardians of Eternity books—New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Ivy lures readers into the dark, seductive world of the Sentinels—humans outcast by their hidden abilities, treading the line between life and death, good and evil, pleasure and pain…

    Born In Blood

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally

  • Against All Odds

Against All Odds by Jezz de Silva

RECOMMENDED: Against All Odds by Jezz de Silva is 99c! Elyse loved this one and gave it an A, but there’s also a really great discussion on the realism of terminal illnesses in the comments. Here’s an excerpt from Elyse’s review:

I think that’s why I loved this book so much. It acknowledges that shitty are going to happen, sometimes really shitty things, but that we find out strength and hope amid the shitty things in our love for each other. It’s the pervading message in romance, and it was the note I needed to start the new year on.

The bomb ticking inside Abigail Williams has shadowed every moment of her adult life. With the timer counting down, Abi embarks on one final adventure into the Australian outback before returning to L.A. to fight for her life.

Sergeant Ryder Harper survived over a decade in Australia’s most elite military unit. He’s ready to hang up his assault rifle and drag what’s left of his broken body back home. He dreads the long flight back to Brisbane, until he collides with the stubborn, maddening seductress sitting beside him.

Abi ignites a need deep inside Ryder, leaving him desperate for more time with this woman with mesmerizing eyes and an even more intoxicating spirit. But when Abi finally relents to Ryder’s offer to be her outback guide, she has one condition: When it’s time, he’ll have to let her go.

  • Unwrapping Her Perfect Match

Unwrapping Her Perfect Match by Kat Latham

Unwrapping Her Perfect Match by Kat Latham is 99c! This is a holiday novella and made it two rounds in the 2015 DABWAHA Tournament! The hero is a single father rugby player who’s always had a thing for the heroine. Readers definitely recommend this for a great Christmas read. However, others weren’t a fan of the hero until the very end. Any Kat Latham fans out there?

’Twas a week before Christmas, and at the auction house…

At six foot one, Gwen Chambers has felt like a giant her whole life. She’s a calm, capable nurse saving lives in a busy London hospital, but healthy men give her heart palpitations. When larger-than-life rugby player “Little” John Sheldon convinces her to bid on him in his team’s fundraising auction, she discovers how pleasurable heart palpitations can be.

A rugby player was stirring, with desire no one could douse…

John has wanted Gwen since he first saw her, but when he’s injured in a match just before Christmas he suddenly needs her too. Not only can the sexy nurse help him recover, but she might be able to help him look after his daughter—a shy ten-year-old who speaks only French.

But will it be a Happy Christmas for all, and for all a good night?
From decorating the Christmas tree to ice skating at the Tower of London, Gwen helps father and daughter open up and bond with each other—and she bonds right along with them. But when John’s agent calls with a life-changing offer, Gwen has to decide how far she’s willing to go for her perfect match. Will their first Noël also be their last?

  1. Kelsey says:

Born in Blood was an instant buy, for me. At 99c, the premise was interesting enough that I wanted it on my list. Has anyone read it? I’m trying to decide if I want to jump right to it or stick with my planned next book.

  2. Katie Lynn says:

I liked the Kat Latham novella, but it *is* a novella, so there’s not a ton of character growth. I enjoyed most of the books in that series.

  3. Katie Lynn says:

Act Like It by Lucy Parker is $1.99. It’s highly recommended around here, and I personally loved it.

  4. Ren Benton says:

(This isn’t much of a sale, but since it’s Penguin and ANY price drops in the US are rare, I’ll mention it anyway.)

Rachel Caine’s ASH & QUILL (The Great Library #3) can be yours for the “low, low” price of $7.99. The first book, INK & BONE, is also that “cheap” at the moment if you’re just starting.

  5. NCK says:

@Kelsey, I actually just read Born in Blood and some of the other books in the series. Born in Blood is fantastic, especially the interactions between the hero and heroine. The next books are not as good as the first, but still pretty solid. The series is a good read though, but be forewarned that there are some overarching plot details that don’t get wrapped up at the end of each book.

  6. Brigit says:

Parker’s Act Like It is price-matched on amazon.de at €1,93. I’ve also found A Discovery Of Witches for €0,99 and Helen Hoangs The Kiss Quotient for €1,99.
