Happy Wednesday! It’s officially October? I love it, mainly because I’m a sucker for fall weather and comfy sweaters. Are you a fall fan? It’s also a great time to do some spooky reading! All of us at SBTB HQ have been trading fall recommendations and we have some cool stuff coming up this season.

I just discovered an amazing Twitter account: Chris Evans as Golden Retrievers. It’s exactly as great as it sounds.

Mental Floss has a graphic of which foods states hate the most. I am aghast at some of the data. Some aren’t even food! Which most hated food surprised you the most?

In romance adaptation news, Netflix has picked up the Virgin River series by Robyn Carr and the Sweet Magnolias series by Sheryl Woods. I’m not a fan of these sorts of contemporaries, but I know many of you are.
…
And just for good measure, here’s Tom Hardy hanging out with rescue dogs!

That food map makes no sense at all. The only thing you can conclude from it is that it’s not possible to conclude anything from jokey questionnaire responses posted by visitors to one website.
The new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina trailer also came out today from Netflix. Can’t wait for this show! https://youtu.be/ybKUX6thF8Q
You can certainly tell which states have a sizeable generation of young people…. and which states are filled with Boomers and older generations. LOL
@Kate-I checked out that trailer, and it looks awesome!! Thanks for the heads up!
Are there any plans for a Smart Bitches review of the new Netflix Original romance-adaptation “Nappily Ever After”? I couldn’t see that the book series (by Trisha R. Thomas) has been reviewed here, but I watched the movie last night and loved it even more than “Set It Up”.
Robin D Owens writes fantasy romances about a world settled by humans with psychic powers, many of whom have bonded with sentient pets. Cats are most prevalent and they are very
Much part of the plots. I reread them fairly frequently.
Tor.com posted a great article today on fictional women who save themselves — and their worlds: https://www.tor.com/2018/10/03/women-who-save-themselves-and-everyone-else/
And i can’t believe how perfect the cast of the Good Omens miniseries is:

I cannot wait!
Tor.com is also offering a free spooky short story for every day in October, so check it out if you are into the scares: https://www.tor.com/2018/10/01/follow-us-on-social-media-for-free-spooky-reads-all-through-october/
Oh wait, one more thing! PBS is doing a series called The Great American Read. They ran a nationwide poll for people to name their favorite books, and every week they analyze a different aspect of what makes these books compelling. Next week’s episode is about romance and love stories, from Gone With the Wind to Twilight, so look for it in your local PBS listings. You can also catch up past episodes on PBS.org, and vote for what you think is the greatest book ever written out of their selection of the top 100 books of their survey.
I keep coming back to read the comments on this facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/TheGoodLordAbove/photos/a.608095492611491/2681702491917437/?type=3&theater. They are killing me–with everyone ready to smash the patriarchy AND stay on point (in both makeup tips and writing style).
Also, everyone in Maryland please feel free to send me all your corner brownies (or brownie corners), I will happily take them off your hands.
I’m sorry, I appear to have commandeered this thread…
Tor.com does it again today, with a list of books featuring Girls Who Don’t Give a Damn About the Patriarchy: https://www.tor.com/2018/10/04/five-books-about-girls-who-dont-care-if-you-like-them-or-not/
In case you wanted more Tom Hardy, here’s a YouTube thing where little kids ask him difficult questions (and he answers them with style). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYbWX1kQ_jE
@NanRH Thank you so much for posting that FB post. The comment thread is giving me tears from laughing but also from solidarity.
I just finished listening to Michael Pollan’s “How to Change Your Mind.” As someone who grew up in the era of Just Say No and D.A.R.E. I found it extremely fascinating, especially the uses for mental health issues.
