Ancillary Justice

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie is $2.99! I know Carrie really loves this book (and the entire series, I believe). It’s also a Hugo Award winner! Readers really loved the scifi world building, though some admitted wanting more action in the first book of the Imperial Radch series. This book is a Kindle Daily Deal and today’s other deals include some romance and cookbooks.

Dance with Me by Alexis Daria is $1.99! This is the second book in the Dance Off series. The first one is also on sale! This has a forced proximity element, which readers say added to the hero and heroine’s chemistry. However, others warn of a Big Misunderstanding that was definitely frustrating.
The second book in Alexis Daria’s dancing duology finds one playboy charmer falling for his new roommate.
Natasha Díaz is having a day. She’s trying to prove she can make it as a professional dancer, but she’s overworked, out of cash, and her roommate has just moved out. When she comes home to find a hole in her ceiling and her bedroom flooded, she’s desperate enough to crash with the one guy she can’t quit. She accepts his offer with one condition: no sleeping together while she’s living with him.
Dimitri Kovalenko has never lived with a woman before. But when Tasha’s in need of a place to stay, he suggests she move in without a second thought. He accepts her condition, hoping she won’t stick to it. They’re good together, both in the ballroom and the bedroom. Since their first dance, she’s never been far from his thoughts. Sure, she’s a pro and he’s one of her show’s judges, but they’re not currently filming, so no one needs to know.
Living in close quarters shows Dimitri a side of Natasha he’s never seen before, and he likes it. A lot. Too bad she’s doing everything in her power to keep him at arm’s length. When an injury forces Natasha to take it easy or risk her ability to dance, it’s his chance to show her that the rules have changed, and she can trust him with her heart.

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting is $1.99! This is a recent contemporary romance release. If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance romance, readers on Goodreads recommend this one. But others wished the heroine had more of a backbone when dealing with things. Have you read this one?
Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting brilliantly captures the hilarity and heartache of first love and second chances in her sexy new romantic comedy.
Lilah isn’t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.
Ethan wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.
Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let Ethan in, though, she finds out their reunion might have nothing to do with love and everything to do with improving his game. But Ethan’s already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he’ll do anything to keep from losing her again.

The Highlander is All That by Sabrina York is $1.99! This is book four in the Untamed Highlanders series, and it also seems to feature some class differences. Readers say this one can be read as a standalone and it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren is $2.99 at Amazon. Not sure if it’s a KDD or not, but it’s been on my radar for a while.
Sarah Title’s THE UNDATEABLE (Librarians in Love) is 99 pennies. I couldn’t get into it because of the “lol getting blackout drunk is totes normal” start, but I feel like it was recced heavily in comments at some point.
Ancillary Justice is so great!
Sexy as Sin by Rosalind James is .99 today. It’s a new release.
I’m with Michelle – Ancillary Justice is a fantastic read. It’s more of a slow burn than pure action. For me, it was worth the read just for how Anne Leckie plays with language and pronouns. The MC’s native language and society doesn’t recognize gender – but the default pronouns are she/her. For someone who tries to be as woke as possible about gender issues, it was fascinating how much my brain struggled with the single pronoun. Shows I have much more to learn.
Anyway, it’s a fantastic trilogy all around, with found families and spaceship battles and the heroines using their smarts to win the day. Also, lots of tea ceremonies :).
I adore Ancillary Justice with a burning hot admiration. CarrieS and I were at a conference this summer and I got to meet Ann Leckie and sit down and talk with her in a very small group and I fangirled about it so much that CarrieS finally snapped at me, “Enough about Ann Leckie already.”
I loved the first book in the Dance Off series, so I was really disappointed when Dance With Me was a total miss for me. The hero seemed really controlling and overbearing to me, but maybe it just wasn’t the right fit for me when I read it.
