  • Six of Crows

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is $2.99! This was described to me as a fantasy YA Ocean’s Eleven with heist hijinks. I’ve also heard that the audiobook is really good. A lot of readers say the book lived up to its hype. Some say it takes a while to get invested, but that it’s so worth it.

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

  • Any Groom Will Do

Any Groom Will Do by Charis Michaels

Any Groom Will Do by Charis Michaels is 99c at Amazon! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and hasn’t been price matched yet. This is also the first book in a new historical romance features, and features class differences and a marriage of convenience. Readers recommend this if you’re a fan of marriage of convenience story. But be warned that because of a medical condition, the heroine can’t have children (if that happens to be something you’d rather not read about).

Lady Willow Hunnicut has always dreamed of living in London. With design talent and aspirations grander than London’s finest houses, she knows an unmarried heiress will never be allowed to live in the capital alone. But a married woman may come and go as she pleases. With a little imagination, a lot of courage, and one carefully worded advertisement, Willow concocts a plan to get everything she wants… even if she must take a husband in exchange.

Lord Brent Caulder, the Earl of Cassin, is destitute, his Yorkshire castle is crumbling, and his tenants are without work. He has an ingenious scheme that’s a surefire moneymaker—if only someone would invest. When he discovers an advertisement seeking adventurers to fund, he is determined to claim the money. But his world is turned upside down when the investor turns out to be a flame-haired heiress.

The deal is simple: In return for marrying Willow, Cassin will receive her substantial dowry—and nothing else. All she asks is that after the wedding, each go their separate ways. But for all her careful preparation, the one thing Willow couldn’t have planned is the way she feels about Cassin… or the desire that threatens to enflame them both.

  • A Noble Masquerade

A Noble Masquerade by Kristi Ann Hunter

A Noble Masquerade by Kristi Ann Hunter is $1.99! This was a finalist in the 2016 RITAs in both the Best First Book and Inspirational Romance categories. We ran two guest reviews for this book during the RITA Reader Challenge. One reader gave it a C- and another gave it an A-. Have you read this?

Lady Miranda Hawthorne acts every inch the lady, but inside she longs to be bold and carefree. Approaching spinsterhood in the eyes of society, she pours her innermost feelings out not in a diary but in letters to her brother’s old school friend, the Duke of Marshington. Since she’s never actually met the man she has no intention of ever sending the letters and is mortified when her brother’s mysterious new valet, Marlow, mistakenly mails one of the letters to the unsuspecting duke.

Shockingly, this breach of etiquette results in a reply from the duke that soon leads to a lively correspondence. Insecurity about her previous lack of suitors soon becomes confusion as Miranda finds herself equally intrigued by Marlow, a man she has come to depend upon but whose behavior grows more suspicious by the day. As the secret goings-on at her family’s estate come to light, one thing is certain: Miranda’s heart is far from all that’s at risk for the Hawthornes and those they love.

  • Melting Into You

Melting Into You by Tracey Alvarez

Melting Into You by Tracey Alvarez is $1.99! This is the second book in the Stewart Island series and is set in New Zealand. Readers enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters, but others found that they struggled to get into the book. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

Big, sexy men who don’t relate well to kids need not apply…

Kezia Murphy plays her widow card well. When you don’t trust people not to let you down, it’s easier to not get involved—and getting involved with a man who makes her skin sizzle just by looking at him would be una pazzia—crazy! Four years ago while Kezia’s daughter, Zoe, battled leukaemia, a tragic accident stole her husband’s life. Starting over in the little town of Oban where she’s adopted into the close knit community on Stewart Island, Kezia and her daughter are all the family the other needs. Except Zoe yearns for more.

New Zealand’s worst candidate for instant fatherhood…

Ben doesn’t do gooey emotional stuff. He doesn’t do cosy home and family. And he sure isn’t the big teddy-bear Kezia Murphy, the woman he secretly fantasises about, thinks he is. So when Jade, his surprise eight-year-old daughter arrives on his doorstep, he’s a D-minus student struggling to pass a crash-course in parenting.

They’ll either melt or raze their lives to the ground…

When the sparks of attraction between Kezia and Ben fan into an inferno, Ben doesn’t know how much longer the layers of resistance around his heart can resist melting into the gooey mess he fears. The more he fights it the harder it is to make the choice that will destroy the family he now longs to claim.

  1. Katie Lynn says:

I read A Noble Masquerade a few years ago, and I really liked it. I’m relarively sensitive to “inspirational” books, they tend to make me pretty angry, but this is so subtle and not preachy at all. I would definitely recommend this one.

  2. Katie Lynn says:

    *relatively

  3. Lostshadows says:

No idea how the audiobook is, but I loved the Six of Crows duology. The beginning is a bit confusing, because certain things haven’t been explained, yet*.

I bought it in hardcover, because they’re really pretty.

*Unless you’ve read her previous series set in this world. I still haven’t done so.

  4. JudyW says:

    JudyW
I really loved Six of Crows and the sequel Crooked Kingdom. Superior adventuring here. I think I like it even better than Court of Thorn and Roses. Well worth that price.

  5. Ren Benton says:

I don’t have prices handy, but Mira Grant’s FEED and TEMPEST by Beverly Jenkins are on sale.

I didn’t read any Leigh Bardugo books before SIX OF CROWS and wasn’t confused about what was happening. On the other hand, the ending infuriated me (the old “hurt the girl to provide motivational manpain” trick) and I didn’t continue to the sequel.

  6. KtB says:

Crap. I one click bought “A Noble Masquerade” without noticing the “Inspirational” tag. Thanks for the heads up @Katie Lynn.

(And how neat! I’m a Katie Lynn too!)

  7. Katie Lynn says:

@KtB the “inspirational” part of the book is more a part of her character than a Very Important LessonTM than other inspirationals I’ve DNF’d. I think she prays about a couple of things, but it seems natural for her character and time. And I’m pretty sure it’s just mentioned that she prays about something, not having to “see” her do it.

  8. DonnaMarie says:

I agree about A Noble Masquerade. It may be tagged inspirational, but it’s in the way of characterization rather than some over arching Christian moral agenda. I really liked Miranda and the romance.

  9. Sheena says:

The audiobook narrator took some getting used to but Six of Cdows was great. I love that ita a heist book through and through but I love that it made the Small Town Romance list.

  10. Kristen says:

Rachel Grant’s ‘Catalyst’ is $0.99 right now – awesome romantic suspense set in South Sudan with an aid worker heroine and Native American Green Beret hero.

  11. Julia aka mizzelle says:

I’m reading “A Noble Masquerade” now from the library and agree with how subtle the inspirational part feels, compared to what I guess I was expecting. I like the heroine but sometimes the hero just seems terrible at his job for someone with his supposed experience.

  12. Ren Benton says:

On Saturday, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain is a Kindle Daily Deal for $2.99. (Not price matched before dawn, but try again later.)

As is the case when anything is the “default,” introverts understand perfectly well how the other side lives because there is no escape from it. It’s a good book to throw at extroverts in the hope they’ll gain a smidgen of insight, and for introverts who need to crack it open occasionally to get a little understanding because it doesn’t treat quiet like a disease that must be cured.

  13. Kira says:

    On sale at Amazon Australia:
Remedial Rocket Science (Chemistry Lessons Book 1) by Susannah Nix – Free
Intermediate Thermodynamics (Chemistry Lessons Book 2) by Susannah Nix $1.35
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang $0.94
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory $0.99

  14. Lepiota says:

I adored Six of Crows and its sequel (and went back and read it’s prequels, which were often fun, though I didn’t enjoy them as much.) I got them in audiobook format (likely the first one through a daily deal?) and like the narration.

…but, um, not all folks have happy endings, I’m just saying. (Reader, I cried.)
