The Tethered Mage
The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso is $1.99! This is the first book in the Swords and Fire series and a Kindle Daily Deal. Some people have shelved this as YA fantasy on Goodreads, while the second book in the series isn’t shelved as YA. I don’t know if it’s YA or not, sooo…if you’ve read this one, let me know! Last time I featured this one on sale, I immediately bought it, though haven’t gotten around to reading it.
CONTROL THE MAGIC, CONTROL THE WORLD
In the Raverran Empire, magic is scarce and those born with power are strictly controlled — taken as children and conscripted into the Falcon Army. Zaira has lived her life on the streets to avoid this fate, hiding her mage-mark and thieving to survive. But hers is a rare and dangerous magic, one that threatens the entire empire.
Lady Amalia Cornaro was never meant to be a Falconer. Heiress and scholar, she was born into a treacherous world of political machinations.
But fate has bound the heir and the mage. And as war looms on the horizon, a single spark could turn their city into a pyre.
The Tethered Mage is the first novel in a spellbinding new fantasy series.

The Seafarer’s Kiss
RECOMMENDED: The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember is 99c! This is a lesbian romance between a mermaid and a Viking shield maiden. Elyse read this one and gave it a B+:
It works really amazingly as a feminist retelling of a beloved fairytale, and it’s rich in detail about what mermaid life would be like, but purely as a romance, the heroines spend too much time apart to be satisfying.
Having long wondered what lives beyond the ice shelf, nineteen-year-old mermaid Ersel learns of the life she wants when she rescues and befriends Ragna, a shield-maiden stranded on the merfolk’s fortress. But when Ersel’s childhood friend and suitor catches them together, he gives Ersel a choice: Say goodbye to Ragna or face justice at the hands of the glacier’s brutal king.
Determined to forge a different fate, Ersel seeks help from the divine Loki. But such deals are never straightforward, and the outcome sees her exiled from the only home and protection she’s known. To save herself from perishing in the barren, underwater wasteland and be reunited with the human she’s come to love, Ersel must try to outsmart the God of Lies.

Kindling the Moon
Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett is $1.99! This is the first book in the Arcadia Bell urban fantasy series. Some felt the book was a bit boring, despite how exciting the book sounded. However, others found the premise pretty interesting and thought it was a great start to the series.
Meet Arcadia Bell: bartender, renegade magician, fugitive from the law. . . .
Being the spawn of two infamous occultists (and alleged murderers) isn’t easy, but freewheeling magician Arcadia “Cady” Bell knows how to make the best of a crummy situation. After hiding out for seven years, she’s carved an incognito niche for herself slinging drinks at the demon-friendly Tambuku Tiki Lounge.
But she receives an ultimatum when unexpected surveillance footage of her notorious parents surfaces: either prove their innocence or surrender herself. Unfortunately, the only witness to the crimes was an elusive Æthyric demon, and Cady has no idea how to find it. She teams up with Lon Butler, an enigmatic demonologist with a special talent for sexual spells and an arcane library of priceless stolen grimoires. Their research soon escalates into a storm of conflict involving missing police evidence, the decadent Hellfire Club, a ruthless bounty hunter, and a powerful occult society that operates way outside the law. If Cady can’t clear her family name soon, she’ll be forced to sacrifice her own life . . . and no amount of running will save her this time.

The Ex Games
The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols is 99c! This is a second chance romance with the hero and heroine being snowboarders. I also believe this romance is more YA than adult. Readers recommend this if you’re a fan of romantic comedies, while others complain of inconsistencies. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.
Brace yourself for the battle of the exes…
Hayden and Nick used to be a hot item, but their brief affair ended with a highly publicized breakup. Now the two are “just friends,” excluding the occasional flirtation.
When Hayden wins the girls’ division of a local snowboarding competition, Nick is unimpressed, claiming that Hayden wouldn’t have a chance against a guy. Hayden calls Nick’s bluff and challenges him to a head-to-head boarding contest. Their mutual friends quickly take sides, the girls on Hayden’s and the boys on Nick’s, making for an all-out battle of the sexes.
This friendly competition is bound to get heated – and they might end up igniting some old flames.

The Awesome Girl’s Guide to Dating Extraordinary Men by Enessa T. Carter is .99 on Kindle.
* Ernessa T. Carter
I really liked the Arcadia Bell series and thought it got better with each book. (And I dare you not to fall in love with Jupe.) Sadly, the publisher ended the series early (at book #4), but Bennett did a great job wrapping things up with the final book so readers weren’t left hanging.
Boy Toys by A E Wasp is currently free. Prequel novella for the next book in her MM hockey series (which should be out soon-ish).
Beauty and the Mustache and Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid are both still free. Contemporary comedic romances. I prefer Mustache to Neanderthal, which suffers from some weird plot choices, imo.
Worth the Wait by Bria Quinlan is still free. Contemporary comedic “clean”/slow burn romance, on of my favorite palate cleanser books.
” This is a lesbian romance between a mermaid and a Viking shield maiden. ”
and bought!
I just read The Seafarer’s Kiss last week and thought it was such an inventive Little Mermaid retelling.
