Adventures in BigStock: Let’s Buy a Boat

BigStock reached out to us about featuring their portfolio in our entries, and we had so much fun exploring, we wanted to share some of our favorite images. There are some seriously talented photographers at work in stock imagery.

There’s also a lot of gold to be mined when it comes to stock photos. Every month, we’ll share with you some great, beautiful, or downright silly things we’ve come across on BigStock. Beware of plot bunnies!

This month’s theme: Boats.

BigStock has quickly become a vessel to which I can funnel all of my romance plots, so let’s continue, shall we? (Ed, note: I see what you did there.)

Ship or luxury white boat lay on sand beach, skyline background. After storm always return sun. Yacht on st.johns beach. Entertainment summer vacation yachting. Boat yacht landed on sand coast.

So what if your fiancé bailed on your wedding. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your honeymoon! But when a little pleasure cruise on a beautiful boat ends up with disastrous consequences, you must rely on the very tanned and very charming captain to get the pair of you off deserted island. A white sandy beach is lovely, but not when there isn’t a way off.

Cruise ship at harbor. Aerial view of beautiful large white ship at sunset. Colorful landscape with boats in marina bay, sea, green forest. Top view from drone of yacht. Luxury cruise. Floating liner

There’s something so haunting about your cruise ship’s resident lounge singer. It might be her soulful, violet eyes or the deep, sensual notes of her voice. You can’t help but wonder how this kind of sadness can exist when surrounded by the revitalizing sun and sea. Maybe you’ll find out, after a Mai-Tai or three.

Inflatable boat on water on the river or lake near the shore in a clear summer day, the bright reflections on the waves. Red boat at the wooden bridge in the blue lake. fishing boat. rescue boat.

The lake house has been in your family for years. Ever since you could remember, the ramshackle cabin across the lake has been abandoned, but this summer, you can see light coming through the pulled shades. Someone lives there, though you haven’t seen him or her. All you know is that you can hear the sound of power tools from across the water. Are they renovating or is something more nefarious at work?

Scenic summer sunset view of Nyhavn pier with color buildings, ships, yachts and other boats in the Old Town of Copenhagen, Denmark

Sailing around the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity and congratulations are in order! You’ve been picked to join the small, close-knit crew of the Esmerelda. What sours the experience is that your sailing nemesis has also been selected as well. With close quarters and tense situations looming ahead for the next few months, will you be able to control your temper or will an old rivalry get the best of you?

Which boat-venture is your favorite? I’m partial to the lake house!

Copenhagen brings back such fabulous memories. I visited with my three sisters a couple of years ago and thought at the time it would be the perfect setting for a romance plot. We took an amazing canal ride past so many atmospheric places. And I do like a forced proximity, friends to lovers story, so if someone wants to write a Scandi romance, let me know!

I thought “what a great place to dispose of the bodies” before I even read the lake house description, so definitely Don’t Fuck That Guy — unless it’s modern gothic and he has a perfectly innocent explanation for the power tools, blood, and all those cars with out-of-state license plates at the bottom of the lake, in which case you can only prove your love by steadfastly believing in him even when he’s chasing you through the woods with a chainsaw.

Pretty sure I have a jigsaw puzzle of the last picture.

Friday morning decompress from long phone call with client – I love all of these! I also enjoy these post; definitely one of the more creative collaborations I’ve seen!

  5. Gail says:

I’m from Florida. I saw your headline and immediately thought of our not so estimated Rep. Vern Buchanan. Then I saw the first photo an am hoping it’s an indication of where the yacht he purchased with his windfall from the recent revisions to the tax laws… and his political career… will end up. Lol!

  6. Deianira says:

Hi, Gail! I’m across the state in the 6th, “represented” by Ron deSantis. I feel you pain!

On topic, Copenhagen’s on my vacation dream list. Having ng just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, though, I won’t be looking for romance while I’m there…

Boats! We live on a pond/tiny lake in Connecticut (see pic below) and we were vastly entertained when a production crew informed us they would be filming Animal in the state park and abandoned lodge across the way. We could sit on our back patio late at night and listen to the actors shrieking.

    @ Kara
I was thinking the exact same thing! I think I have that last photo in a jigsaw puzzle too.
