  • The Hamilton Affair

The Hamilton Affair by Elizabeth Cobbs

The Hamilton Affair by Elizabeth Cobbs is $2.99! This is a work of historical fiction that focuses on Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler’s relationship. Redheadedgirl mentioned that she’d read this one in a previous Whatcha Reading. She found it “good, but disjointed.”

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the American Revolution, and featuring a cast of iconic characters such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the Marquis de Lafayette, The Hamilton Affair tells the sweeping, tumultuous, true love story of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, from tremulous beginning to bittersweet ending—his at a dueling ground on the shores of the Hudson River, hers more than half a century later after a brave, successful life.

Hamilton was a bastard son, raised on the Caribbean island of St. Croix. He went to America to pursue his education. Along the way he became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing—and unlikely—heroes. Adored by Washington, hated by Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the American Revolution.

She was the well-to-do daughter of one of New York’s most exalted families—feisty, adventurous, and loyal to a fault. When she met Alexander, she fell head over heels. She pursued him despite his illegitimacy, and loved him despite his infidelity. In 1816 (two centuries ago), she shamed Congress into supporting his seven orphaned children. Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton started New York’s first orphanage. The only “founding mother” to truly embrace public service, she raised 160 children in addition to her own.

With its flawless writing, brilliantly drawn characters, and epic scope, The Hamilton Affair will take its place among the greatest novels of American history.

  • Switch and Bait

Switch and Bait by Ricki Schultz

Switch and Bait by Ricki Schultz is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. After reading the description, it feels like it has some elements of Cyrano de Bergerac. Is anyone else getting that feeling? Readers on Goodreads say this one is a really cute and fun read, but others struggled to get into the writing style.

A charming, hilarious romantic comedy told with sharp insight and sarcastic wit, for readers of Helen Fielding, Maria Semple, Emily Giffin, or Jennifer Weiner.

    We switch. I bait.
Let me help you snag a date.

All through college, Blanche Carter was known as the love doctor in her sorority. Girls constantly sought the perfect pick-up lines for their hot chemistry partners or the best zingers for frat boy flimflam-and Blanche always delivered. Now, she’s parlayed her talent for tête-á-tête into a unique consulting business: she runs the online dating profiles of Washington D.C.’s most eligible women.

Armed with a battalion of dating rules, Blanche expertly helps her clients streamline their profiles and put their best foot forward on dates. But although she’ll happily spend her days messaging handsome strangers (and fending off dick pics) for other people, Blanche’s most important rule is the one she has for herself: no relationships. She’s seen too much heartbreak and faked far too many convos to believe in real love anymore.

That said, when one of the most annoying men she knows–Henry, a friend of a friend with whom she once had a fling–pops up in one of her favorite clients’ matches, Blanche gamely messages him on her behalf. And, dammit, if he isn’t more than just an arrogant advisor working on Capitol Hill. He’s actually fricking . . . dreamy. And smart. And–if Blanche doesn’t watch it, she might end up not only screwing over a client and tanking her entire business but possibly breaking her rule about love as well . . .

Ricki Schultz’s trademark irreverent humor and wry insight into the absurdities of modern dating are both outrageously funny and genuinely moving in her unforgettable new novel.

Book Two in Sherry Thomas’ delightful Lady Sherlock series, “A Conspiracy in Belgravia” is on sale on Amazon for $1.99. Not sure if it is being price matched by other sellers.

I found Paige Tyler’s Special Wolf Alpha Team books absolutely delightful! I recommend them to scratch that PNR itch that sometimes develops when it’s been too long since Nalini or Patricia released a book…

Book 6, Wolf Hunt is also $2.99—it takes place in New Orleans with only part of the team present, so it can totally be read as a standalone or after you glom book 1. G’wan, you know you want to…

The books are funny. They’re hilarious—of course the SWAT Team is made up of werewolves! They’re also violent and some do deal with prejudice and hate crimes, so your enjoyment may vary depending on current events.
