  • Shades of Treason

Shades of Treason by Sandy Williams

Shades of Treason by Sandy Williams is $2.99! This is a scifi romance where the heroine and her former mentor experience pants feelings. Readers loved the amount of action in the book, but felt the ending was unresolved and seemed like a cliffhanger. The follow up book is $4.99, if you’re determined to continue.

Ash would have given her life to save her teammates.
Instead, they gave their lives to save hers.

Lieutenant Ramie Ashdyn is an anomaly, a person whose genetic makeup makes her stronger and smarter than the average human. She’s pledged her life to protect the Coalition, an alliance of thirteen planetary systems, but when a top secret operation turns bloody, she’s charged with treason and the brutal executions of her teammates.

The Coalition needs the information Ash’s team stole on their last mission, so they send in Commander Rhys “Rest in Peace” Rykus to get it. He’s the man who’s responsible for turning Ash into an elite soldier… and he’s a man who isn’t, never was, and never will be in love with the woman he trained. Or so he tells himself.

Ash wants nothing more than to clear her name and be the woman her former instructor wants her to be, but the enemy who killed her teammates did more than frame her for treason and murder: they telepathically silenced her mind, preventing her from saying anything that might point to the truth about what happened.

Now Ash is trapped and set to be executed, the truth dying with her. Unless she can prove her innocence. But taking that path could destroy the Coalition she’s sworn to preserve and protect…

  • Straight Up Irish

Straight Up Irish by Magan Vernon

Straight Up Irish by Magan Vernon is 99c! This is the first book in the Murphy Brothers series and features a fake relationship. Some readers wanted more chemistry because they didn’t BUY the romance necessarily. However, others recommend this book if you like slow burns and romances that are light on extra drama.

I need a wife if I want to help save my family’s billion-dollar pub empire. There’s just one problem: I never plan on marrying. So, I need someone who understands that this is just another business deal. I don’t do commitments. And my brother’s executive assistant, Fallon Smith, fits that bill.

Fallon needs help with her grandmother’s expenses, and her pretending to be my fake wife is a way we can make that happen. She’s not my biggest fan, but we can help each other and then go our separate ways. That she’s beautiful and I enjoy spending time with her–doesn’t matter. When all of this is done, she’s heading home to America, and I’ve got a company to run.

A fake wedding and a whole lot of whiskey. What could go wrong?

  • His Very Own Girl

His Very Own Girl by Carrie Lofty

His Very Own Girl by Carrie Lofty is 99c! This is a historical romance set during WWII. Carrie read this one and gave it a B-:

This isn’t a fairy tale romance with an anachronistically perfect hero, but it’s a romance that suggests that even two imperfect people in an imperfect world can find happiness.

From the author of Flawless and Starlight comes an emotional, sensual romance set during World War II about a female British civilian pilot and the American paratrooper medic who opens her heart—only available as an eBook.

After the War took the lives of Lulu Davies’s parents and her fiancé, she promised herself she would guard her heart carefully and concentrate on her great love—flying the biggest and best airplanes in the sky. Lulu is a pilot in the British civilian air force, ferrying planes around Great Britain and keeping her eye on a coveted spot in a training program for world-class pilots. She’s perfectly content to strive for greatness in the skies, and dance with a few GIs on the way.

Brawny, quiet American medic Joe Weber signed up with the paratroopers to escape his checkered past; he’s hoping that jumping out of planes and patching up soldiers will earn him respect and a hopeful future. Joe’s first real test of medical skill is on a pilot whose plane takes a hard landing in a training field; after rushing to the crash scene, he is stunned to come face-to-face with a gorgeous Rita Hayworth lookalike. And when the two cross paths at a dance hall a couple weeks later, he can’t resist the urge to find out more about this spirited, dark-haired beauty.

Their flirtation breaks all of Lulu’s rules, but dance by dance, week by week, walk by walk, she finds herself falling in love with this honest, vulnerable man on the run from his demons. But as Lulu and Joe’s undeniable attraction gains momentum, World War II steadily intensifies toward D-Day. The lovers only have one night together before Joe is transported to France for the Battle of the Bulge, where his skills and his instinct for survival will be pushed to their limits. Lulu distracts herself with flight school and the friendships of her colleagues, but she can’t get the handsome medic out of her head. Only time and hope will tell if her love will return unharmed from War, and if the two will be able to overcome their pasts to form a beautiful life together in peace-time.

  • Wilder

    Wilder by Rebecca Yarros

Wilder by Rebecca Yarros is 99c! I was really excited about this book during September’s Hide Your Wallet. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads, and readers loved the slow burn of the romance. However, some felt the quick read was a bit slow at times. All three books in this series are priced at 99c and the third book features a heroine who is an extreme sports athlete!

    He’s Paxton Wilder.

Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

    Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

I really liked Shades of Treason! The sequel I didn’t like as much, unfortunately.

  2. JoannaV says:

I’ve been on a kind of WWII reading binge lately so that Carrie Lofty book is a one-click. Thanks!,

  3. Darlynne says:

Rhys Rykus? Made me immediately stumble. Also, “telepathically silenced her mind, preventing her from saying anything …” Does that mean her mind is blank; she can’t talk or can only talk about certain things; can’t write anything down; play charades? It could just be my perennial bad mood, but this clumsy blurb annoys me instead of drawing me in to look at a sample. /back to my cave

For Audible members, the first Maisie Dobbs book is free today.

    Speaking of the name Rhys…..

Rebel by Rhys Ford is $.99 at amazon. M/m, contemporary, book 1 in 415 Ink Series, tattoo artist. Haven’t read this but I DO like that cover 🙂

  6. JenM says:

I read Wilder and the second in the series, Nova. Really loved the couple in the first book – the hero was pretty cocky, but the heroine didn’t hesitate to knock him down a bit when he needed it. However, I didn’t much like the hero in the second book. He was a bit of a jerk who never really took responsibility for the pain that he caused the heroine. I was very excited to see the third book, Rebel, on sale and immediately grabbed it yesterday. It’s great for the extreme sports participant to be a woman for once.

The author, Rebecca Yarros, also wrote a fantastic NA series (the Flight and Glory series) featuring military helicopter pilots that are also all on sale for $0.99 each. I highly recommend the whole series. The author is married to an Army pilot and her books have that ring of authenticity.

  7. I loved the first two books in the Renegade series! Happy to swoop up the third.

  8. Tina says:

Shades of Treason looks great. I should really stop judging books by their covers but that outfit the heroine is wearing – wow!
