If the Dress Fits by Carla de Guzman is 99c at Amazon! Carrie read this romance with a plus-sized heroine. She gave it a B-:
Overall, I loved this book. I loved reading about the life of a wealthy family in the Philippines. I loved the celebration of food, flowers, and beautiful clothes (Martha is an excellent dresser). I loved the cousins’ rivalry turned friendship. Above all, I love that this is not a makeover story.
Martha Aguas kind of has it all–she’s an accountant who loves numbers, an accident-prone puppy that loves her, and the perfect wardrobe.
Yes, she wears a dress size 24, her bras don’t fit and she’s never had a boyfriend, but so what?
It becomes a big deal when her perfect cousin Regina announces her engagement to Enzo, the only boy she’s ever loved (he doesn’t know, so don’t tell him!) Suddenly Aguases from all corners of the globe are coming for the event, and the last thing Martha wants is to be asked why she still prefers her lattes with a waffle on the side.
Thank god for Max. Goofy, funny, dependable Max, who finds himself playing the fake boyfriend at the family festivities. But why does it feel like only one of them is pretending?

An Irresistible Alliance by Stephanie Laurens is $1.99 at Amazon! I’m not sure if this deal is on its way out or not. The book’s description mentions this historical romance has some Gothic elements. However, some readers mention that despite the Gothic undertones, it was rather boring.
A duke’s second son with no responsibilities and a lady starved of the excitement her soul craves join forces to unravel a deadly, potentially catastrophic threat to the realm – that only continues to grow.
With his older brother’s betrothal announced, Lord Michael Cynster is freed from the pressure of familial expectations. However, the allure of his previous hedonistic pursuits has paled. Then he learns of the mission his brother, Sebastian, and Lady Antonia Rawlings have been assisting with and volunteers to assist by hunting down the hoard of gunpowder now secreted somewhere in London.
Michael sets out to trace the carters who transported the gunpowder from Kent to London. His quest leads him to the Hendon Shipping Company, where he discovers his sole source of information is the only daughter of Jack and Kit Hendon, Miss Cleome Hendon, who although a fetchingly attractive lady, firmly holds the reins of the office in her small hands.
Cleo has fought to achieve her position in the company. Initially, managing the office was a challenge, but she now conquers all in just a few hours a week. With her three brothers all adventuring in America, she’s been driven to the realization that she craves adventure, too.
When Michael Cynster walks in and asks about carters, Cleo’s instincts leap. She wrings from him the full tale of his mission—and offers him a bargain. She will lead him to the carters he seeks if he agrees to include her as an equal partner in the mission.
Horrified, Michael attempts to resist, but ultimately finds himself agreeing—a sequence of events he quickly learns is common around Cleo. Then she delivers on her part of the bargain, and he finds there are benefits to allowing her to continue to investigate beside him—not least being that if she’s there, then he knows she’s safe.
But the further they go in tracing the gunpowder, the more deaths they uncover. And when they finally locate the barrels, they find themselves tangled in a fight to the death—one that forces them to face what has grown between them, to seize and defend what they both see as their path to the greatest adventure of all. A shared life. A shared future. A shared love.
Second volume in a trilogy. A historical romance with gothic overtones layered over a continuing intrigue. A full length novel of 101,000 words.

RECOMMENDED: The Chief by Monica McCarty is $2.99! This is the first book in the Highland Guard series and Elyse gave it an A-:
The Chief isn’t McCarty’s best book (Highland Scoundrel is my all-time favorite of hers), but it does a lot of work setting up what will be a ten to twelve book series. And it’s full of Old Skool themes that I luurve so much. Seriously, Fabio should be on this cover. In a kilt.
AN ELITE FIGHTING FORCE UNLIKE THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN . . .
Scouring the darkest corners of the Highlands and Western Isles, Robert the Bruce handpicks ten warriors to help him in his quest to free Scotland from English rule. They are the best of the best, chosen for their superior skills in each discipline of warfare. And to lead his secret Highland Guard, Bruce chooses the greatest warrior of all.
The ultimate Highland warlord and a swordsman without equal, Tor MacLeod has no intention of being drawn into Scotland’s war against the English. Dedicated to his clan, the fiercely independent chief answers to no one—especially not to his alluring new bride, bartered to him in a bid to secure his command of the deadliest fighting force the world has ever seen. The treacherous chit who made her way to Tor’s bed may have won his hand, but she will never claim his heart.
Although her husband’s reputation is as fierce as his manner, Christina Fraser believes that something softer hides beneath his brutal shell. But the only warmth she feels is in their bed, in glorious moments of white-hot desire that disappear with the dawn. When Christina’s reckless bid to win her husband’s love goes awry and thrusts them into danger on the eve of war, Tor will face his ultimate battle: to save his wife and to open his heart—before it’s too late.

Would anyone actually hire ‘The Lost Bastards’ agency? I feel like they should re-do their business plan. Although those probably aren’t nearly manly enough.
T. Kingfisher’s Clockwork Boys is $1.99 at Amazon US. Still $4.99 elsewhere, but iirc, Kobo is good at price matching.
I’d check the #romanceclassdeals hashtag throughout August — they’ve been doing a lot of freebies/ .99 deals.
I feel like the Stephanie Laurens books have some of the weirdest covers on the traditional publishing market. Worthy of Coversnark even. Case in point, this gem:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016UEJI0W/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_taft_p6_i1
The chief’s sword placement needs some work (very subtle by the way o.O), if that thing has any blade at all.
A Conspiracy in Belgravia by Sherry Thomas is $1.99 on Amazon US. It’s the second book in her Lady Sherlock series. I love the covers in this series and really enjoyed the first book.
@Liz – LOL! Went to your S.Laurens cover link and….just..wow. Made my afternoon, thanks!
Heat Exchange by Shannon Stacey is currently free. I believe it’s free through the 15th.
The second book in Courtney Milan’s Worth saga is $1.99 today
That is my absolute favorite of the ‘bad photoshop’ period of Laurens’ covers. I feel like he is looking at you as if to say “Seriously? You are reading this dreck? Seriously? Well, I clearly cannot help you.”
That said, I think I liked Irresistible Alliance best of that trilogy if for no other reason than watching Clueless Rich Noble Guy trying to deal with the lower classes when he really has no clue how to deal with them.
