Indiscreet
Indiscreet by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in the Horseman Trilogy. The third book in the trilogy, Irresistible, is on sale for $1.99! Readers call this a “fluffy Regency” and found the romance to be pretty darn sweet. However, some found the romance a bit slow going at times. This is also a rerelease, as the original book was published in 1997.
In the country visiting his twin brother, Viscount Rawleigh longs for a little diversion and beautiful young widow Catherine Winters seems like easy prey. But Rex’s target is a lady of virtue, and when she roundly rejects his improper proposal to become his mistress, Rex finds himself faced with a delectable challenge.
Catherine knows she must fight the indecent feelings the Viscount arouses within her—feelings that bring to life a past she had sought to escape—even as the handsome lord refuses to relent in his amorous attentions.
But even though she knows one kiss could bring her to ruin, temptation proves an insurmountable foe—and Catherine can not ignore the beating of her treacherous heart…

Never Love a Cowboy
Never Love a Cowboy by Lorraine Heath is $1.99! This is the second book in the Rogues in Texas series. Readers recommend this one if you love a heaping dose of angst in your romances. But some readers weren’t too sold on the hero. Have you read this one?
New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath’s classic novel of a love that overcomes all obstacles
“I would not make a good husband. I do, however, make an excellent lover . . .”
Harrison Bainbridge, the second son of an English earl, left his home seeking a scandal-free life away from society’s stuffy restraints. Arriving in Texas, he never expected that a sassy saloon-keeper’s daughter would capture his eye. With her outspoken ways and flashing eyes, Jessye Kane is a temptation hard to resist. But although she is willing to be his partner in a daring business venture, she is unwilling to embrace the passion he offers.
Jessye knows that noble-born Harrison isn’t for the likes of her, but beneath his devil-may-care exterior, she senses a deeper vulnerability. When he’s suddenly injured, risking his life to save her from mortal danger, Jessye vows to do anything to make him whole again— forcing this rugged scoundrel who claims he has no heart to take the greatest risk of all . . . on love.

Winter Be My Shield
Winter Be My Shield by Jo Spurrier is $1.99! For some reason, the book isn’t available on the Nook, but future books in the series are. Just a warning. This is epic fantasy and reviews said it was much better than they were expecting from a fantasy debut. However, some found it was too repetitive for them to enjoy.
A complex, adult epic fantasy from a new Australian author … original, dramatic, unputdownable …
Sierra has a despised and forbidden gift — she raises power from the suffering of others. Enslaved by the King’s Torturer, Sierra escapes, barely keeping ahead of Rasten, the man sent to hunt her down. Then she falls in with dangerous company: the fugitive Prince Cammarian and his crippled foster-brother, Isidro.
But Rasten is not the only enemy hunting them in the frozen north and as Sierra’s new allies struggle to identify friend from foe, Rasten approaches her with a plan to kill the master they both abhor. Sierra is forced to decide what price she is willing to pay for her freedom and her life …
Original, dramatic and unputdownable, Winter Be My Shield is the first in an epic fantasy trilogy from brilliant new Australian talent Jo Spurrier.

The Redhead Series
The Redhead Series by Alice Clayton is $1.99! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this one! This set collects all three books in the Redhead series, which follows the same couple through all three books. This series isn’t my favorite of Clayton’s (and I typically don’t like to read about a continuous couple through a series), but it’s still a cute, funny contemporary romance.
New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton is a magical mix of humor and heat in The Redhead Series—a playful series following a sizzling romance between aspiring actress Grace Sheridan and Hollywood’s hottest new leading man, Jack Hamilton.
In The Unidentified Redhead, ten years after discovering that looks and talent are a dime a dozen in Los Angeles, Grace Sheridan is back and ready to show the film industry that there’s more to her than just a head of gorgeous red curls. And Hollywood’s newest Brit super-hunk Jack Hamilton certainly agrees. As Grace tries to restrain herself from jumping a man who is nearly a decade her junior, Jack makes it clear that he has zero problems with her age. But as the paparazzi catches up with them, Grace, dubbed the “unidentified redhead,” is stuck in a bind. A sizzling romance with the newest “it” boy may garner her industry attention…but is it the kind of attention she’s always dreamed of?
As Grace tries to maintain her anonymity in The Redhead Revealed after winning her dream role in a new off-Broadway play, her steamy bicoastal relationship with Hollywood hunk Jack Hamilton is getting harder to keep secret. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and the libido hotter, but their few weekend visits feel more like fast food than the five-course dinner they crave. As rumors spread like wildfire in the tabloids about Jack and his lovely, leggy ex-girlfriend, Grace starts to wonder if lust alone can keep this feisty duo together….
With a hot and heavy relationship with Jack Hamilton, plus the lead role in a new TV dramedy, Grace Sheridan could just pinch herself in The Redhead Plays Her Hand. But a demand from her directors to drop fifteen pounds brings her back down to earth with a thump. Meanwhile Jack, forbidden to reveal their relationship, seems overly enamored with the celebrity lifestyle. And as Grace’s new bod incites fiery reactions from fans and paparazzi alike, Jack’s jealous fans are viciously slamming her curves. Grace longs for Jack’s support, but he’s showing up late and disheveled to her most important moments. With tempers between them flaring, Grace might have more to lose than a few stubborn pounds. She and Jack were clearly made for each other—but will the day ever come when they can walk the red carpet together, hand in hand?

I read Winter be My Shield recently and really liked it. It probably could have been a bit shorter, but I didn’t find it that repetitive. Fair warning, it is dark. There’s lots of discussion of sexual assault, rape, and torture, but it’s all off screen.
I found Indiscreet to be far from fluffy and sweet. It’s one of the very few historical romances that talk about the adtermath of a hero pursuing the heroine doggedly despite her saying no. It talks about the double standards of a society that puts the entire blame on a woman and let’s the man scot-free. It’s also one of the very few romances where the hero actually realises that he was wrong to pursue the heroine so, learns from it, and apologizes to her for ruining her life. (Other heroes who are guilty of similar misdeeds end up justifying their actions by blaming them on true lurve.)
Like I said: far from fluffy. It is easily one of my favourite historical romances.
THANKS! I have been waiting to get The Redhead Series. My library has all the other Alice Clayton books except these.
Indiscreet I nearly stopped reading because the hero was very pushy, and it really got on my nerves. But he did redeem himself by the end and I was glad I stuck with it.
I also agree with a previous comment that I didn’t find it very fluffy, it made me cry.
I hate the hero of “Indiscreet” so much, I want to reach into the book and throttle him.
Mollie Katzen’s The Heart of the Plate: Vegetarian Recipes for a New Generation is a KDD for $1.99. I’ve had my eyes on it since it came out…and now I own it, yay! (I’m an omnivore and a lazy cook and figuring out what to serve my vegetarian relatives for more than one meal is a headache every time—I mean, I love gravlax and other lax but you can’t eat it all weekend, can you? Eggplant Parmesan burgers sound good to me!)

Plus one for Indiscreet not being fluffy at all, and dealing with issues that are (unfortunately) with us to this day!! It’s even more impressive considering that it was written in 1997. I own a copy and I’m considering owning the ebook. Easily one of my favorite Baloghs. Yes, hero is cocky and obnoxious at the start of the book but he has a nice arc.
Indiscreet (so not fluffy) is very relevant to conversations we are having right now about harassment. Even now, in romances, aggressive pursuit is a frequent trope and is rarely called out in those books as an unacceptable behavior. So yeah, you will hate on this hero for awhile, but it is very satisfying when he finally has his epiphany that he was being awful and he made her feel terrible and that when she said no she MEANT it. I recommend it.
Dang it, Indiscreet is $12.99 for kindle on amazon.ca… but I did pick up that 3rd book for the sale price. I needed to buy something new as I finished 2 books last night (marathon bad decisions book club I guess!).
Can’t even GET Indiscreet on Kindle here in the UK. And all the comments had me going. Maybe I’ll do the Redhead thing.
I’m just echoing at this point, but Indiscreet is hardly fluffy. It’s a gut punch and amazing and cathartic and amazingly relevant.
‘Irresistable’ may be my favourite Mary Balogh. It does suffer from one of those plots where you’re shrieking at the heroine ‘JUST TELL HIM THE TRUTH!’ but both hero and heroine are sympathetic characters, and you even feel for the heroine’s dead husband.
Just want to say that usually I don’t really care for Mary Balogh, but I’m going to try Indiscreet on the strength of these comments, because a hero in the wrong who comes to learn and admit that he was wrong is something I need more of in my life.
Indiscreet is one of my favorite Balogh books for the reasons that many have already mentioned. Not just how she treated the issue of ‘no means no’ as it pertains to the hero/heroine but also all the different shades in how the supporting character react. Very well written.
