A Conspiracy of Whispers

A Conspiracy of Whispers by Ada Harper is 99c at Amazon! This sale might be on its way out, but I’ve seen this all over the place on Twitter. It’s a scifi romance with an awesome cover. I believe it’s Harper’s debut. The next book of hers is due out in October and features a lesbian romance. Heck yeah!
Desires and loyalties clash when a sensual assassin and an intriguing enemy agent must fight together in this exciting debut by Ada Harper.
For Olivia Shaw, the danger of her assignments as a deadly Whisper agent is matched only by that of her hidden status: Liv is one of the caricae, extremely rare women capable of bearing children and therefore controlled by the Syndicate’s government. When her handler sends her into the Quillian Empire, her mission is complicated by stumbling upon a kidnapping in progress.
Liv is drawn deep into political upheaval when her hostage is revealed to be the infamous Red Wolf, Galen De Corvus, brother of the Quillian Empress. Worse yet, he is an altus, more sensitive than most to the pheromones of caricae. If he realizes what she is, he could expose her secret to either government and doom her to a life as breeding stock.
Quillian nobleman turned operative Galen never planned to involve himself with a citizen of the cold, cruel Syn, but Olivia entices him more than she should. As they work together to protect his royal sister from a violent coup, the passionate bond between them proves to be more than mere biology. And Liv must decide if that bond is worth dropping her guard for both an enemy and an altus.

The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! This is book two in the Turner Series, though I believe it can be read on its own. Sebastian is a reader favorite when it comes to gay romance and it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads. Are you a Sebastian fan? Which book is your favorite?
An earl hiding from his future . . .
Lawrence Browne, the Earl of Radnor, is mad. At least, that’s what he and most of the village believes. A brilliant scientist, he hides himself away in his family’s crumbling estate, unwilling to venture into the outside world. When an annoyingly handsome man arrives at Penkellis, claiming to be Lawrence’s new secretary, his carefully planned world is turned upside down.
A swindler haunted by his past . . .
Georgie Turner has made his life pretending to be anyone but himself. A swindler and con man, he can slip into an identity faster than he can change clothes. But when his long-dead conscience resurrects and a dangerous associate is out for blood, Georgie escapes to the wilds of Cornwall. Pretending to be a secretary should be easy, but he doesn’t expect that the only madness he finds is the one he has for the gorgeous earl.
Can they find forever in the wreckage of their lives?
Challenging each other at every turn, the two men soon give into the desire that threatens to overwhelm them. But with one man convinced he is at the very brink of madness and the other hiding his real identity, only true love can make this an affair to remember.

A Little Bit Wild by Victoria Dahl is $1.99! This is the first book in the York Family series. The second book is available for $3.99, though not sure if that’s a sale. This is a historical romance with a marriage of convenience. Some readers didn’t like the heroine very much, which they found very uncharacteristic for Dahl’s writing. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
HE IS NOT WHAT SHE HAD IN MIND.
Jude Bertrand is not an excellent dancer. Nor does he wear the most fashionable coats. But when Marissa York’s brother approaches him, desperate to preserve Marissa’s tenuous reputation, Jude does prove heroic enough to offer to marry the girl. In fact, the union should more than make up for his lack of social graces — and his own scandalous past…
BUT MINDS CHANGE …
Marissa knows that betrothal to the son of a duke — even one as raw and masculine as Jude — will save her from ruin, but that doesn’t mean she’s happy about it. Soon, though, she finds that Jude has a surprisingly gentle touch — and plans to use it to persuade Marissa that their wedding day cannot come soon enough…

The Tycoon by M. O’Keefe is $2.99! This book just came out today and O’Keefe writes some great dark, emotional romances. I’m not sure if this is exactly a sale or just the list price, but it’s still not a bad deal for a new book by an author many enjoy. Anyone else excited for the first book in a new series by O’Keefe?
The cruel and beautiful man who ruined my life has everything he wants—everything except me.
Five years ago, Clayton Rorick loved me. Or so I thought. Turned out he only wanted to get his hands on my daddy’s company. Heartbroken, I ran away with nothing but the clothes on my back. Like a twisted Cinderella. When my father dies, leaving my sisters in a desperate situation, it’s up to me to help them.
I’ll have to beg the man who broke my heart to save us.
But Clayton hasn’t forgotten me and what he wants in exchange for his help is…my body, my heart and my soul.

A Little Bit Wild begins with the heroine being caught having casual sex (Not with the hero) by her brother and her reaction was pretty much whatevs. A sheltered daughter of the aristocracy having thoroughly modern views on premarital sex was a no go for me but YMMV.
I highly recommend M. O’Keefe and yay it is free for KU members.
Just as FYI: I know M. O’Keefe and Molly O’Keefe are the same person, but the cover clearly says M. O’Keefe, but when I went searching for TYCOON by M. O’Keefe on Amazon, I got no results; it came up when I searched for Molly O’Keefe.
Also, I started reading the sample and it’s soooo good!
The title is ‘The Tycoon” and even the Goodreads link is not working. But search The Tycoon Molly O”Keefe and it’s there.
I love Molly O’Keefe aka M. O’Keefe’s books. Auto buy author for me.
The Lawrence Browne Affair is one of my all time favorite books, I have re-read it a number of times. Wonderful characters who have their own share of issues and problems and have to try and figure out how to make their relationship work. If you haven’t tried any M/M historicals it might be a good place to start. Wonderful book.
@KellyM: I didn’t even see the article in the title! Wow, haha. The entry has been updated. Thanks, Kelly!
@ DiscoDollyDeb
as an add: if you input The Tycoon M. O’Keefe in Amazon, it works. As does the Amazon link for the book that Amanda put there.
And I meant ‘ not ” in the O’Keefe in last post. Oops.
@KellyM: thank you! I liked the sample so much, I went ahead and downloaded the book. M. O’Keefe or Molly O’Keefe, I feel a Bad Decisions Book Club all-nighter ahead of me!
@ Amanda no worries. I just happened to catch it from the Amazon title.
The purple on black and the different font makes “the” blend into the background. Not the best color choices in ebook format imo.
Goodreads still does not acknowledge M. O’Keefe only Molly O’Keefe. Goodreads search doesn’t have ANY listing for M. OKeefe. It doesn’t seem to be a very effective nom de plume from the Goodreads and Amazon standpoint. lol.
I live for your book sales Amanda, thank you for all you do.
I’m a Cat Sebastian fan, although the Lawrence Browne Affair is probably my least favorite of the Turner trilogy – it’s still good though.
Cat Sebastian reminds me a lot of Julia Quinn, but with queer characters and more class differences. But lots of familiar tropes, sparkling dialog and found family.
The heroine of A Little Bit Wild really rubbed me the wrong way (the only time I’ve ever had that with a Dahl heroine) but I loved the hero. He just seemed to find all her goof-ups absolutely hilarious, which can smooth a lot of relationship challenges. The meat of the series for me was It’s Always Been You. Man, I loved that story. The plot was all kinds of bananas, but I’ve never read another story where it was so apparent that two people saw each other with the eyes of love, evidence be damned.
I started reading The Tycoon during my lunch break today, and the prologue has me salivating! I love O’Keefe’s books, and trusted I would love this series too. Just FYI: O’Keefe wrote book 1, but book 2 (The Bodyguard) is by S. Doyle, and book 3 (The Bastard) is by Julie Kriss. It’s an interesting way to do a series.
Seconding the recommendation for the Lawrence Browne Affair. It was my first m/m historical & I really enjoyed it.
I read The Lawrence Browne Affair after the subsequent book and still haven’t read the first, and both books work fine on their own. Zero confusion if you lack encyclopedic knowledge of the author’s entire backlist, which is a nice quality in an age where most series books seem to be 75% marketing for other books in the series.
I *love* Victoria Dahl’s contemporaries. A Little Bit Wild is the only one of her historicals that I’ve read and I disliked it so much (for the reasons mentioned above) that I haven’t read any of her other historicals.
I grabbed A Conspiracy of Whispers because woo hoo! Sci fi romance! And really look forward to the sequel A Treason of Truths. Way too little F/F (WLW) books out there, if you ask me 🙂
Heroines who are disliked by a lot of readers are my catnip! As are non-virginal historical heroines, so one click it is.

Co-signed!
I liked that the heroine of A Little Bit Wild was caught in flagrante with someone not the hero. It happens ALL THE TIME with heroes. I get super super sick of historical rake heroes who don’t have a bunch of illegitimate kids or STIs. That pisses me off way more than characters whose ideas don’t fit the time frame. Another things that gets me: magic virgin-detecting penises.
@ Michelle
Yes! And actually women like Mary Wollstonecraft and Harriet Taylor Mill may not have been typical for their eras but clearly they were not alone in being frustrated by the double standard. After all, these rakes had to get their mistresses from somewhere. Are we to believe that they were all “ruined” against their will first rather than that some women made affirmative choices?
And as for all the rakes, concern for historical accuracy should mean that a lot more of our book heroes should be worrying about the depletion of their vigor and mental acuity due to the loss of sperm during sex.
I was actually disappointed by The Lawrence Browne Affair. I loved the previous book in the series, which had an interesting and ultimately very romantic connection between two men with wildly divergent values who were both financially self sufficient but had to find a way to be together given their class difference. This book felt very cookie-cutter fantasyland romance, a stereotypical Beauty and the Beast story, just with Georgie playing the girl. He’s the charming and beautiful servant character who turns the reclusive earl’s household and heart upside down in a book which makes no attempt at historical plausibility.
Cat Sebastian’s books are too expensive in Australia for me to try another one, and the only book of hers that seems to periodically come up on sale is this one!
I loved A Conspiracy of Whispers so much! Ass kicking heroine, tough guy hero with a marshmallow center, diverse cast of characters (including major characters who are trans men and women), it’s beautifully written and just all around a really cool story. I can’t wait for her next one, I pre-ordered it as soon as I finished this one. I heard about this book from Bree Bridges (the Bree half of Kit Rocha) she was squeeing all over twitter, and for good reason. It’s really good!!
I enjoyed A Little Bit Wild. Sure, the heroine wasn’t exactly in line with average mores of the time, but there’s always got to be an outlier, right? and she was funny 🙂
Reading binge weekend thanks to you all — I also got The Tycoon and enjoyed it. I do like M O’Keefe quite a bit. Warning: The Bodyguard by S. Doyle was a straight-out disappointment by the end. The preview was uneven — since the preview took place when the protagonist was in high school, I couldn’t tell if the juvenile point of view and writing was on purpose or not. It actually got better initially — I could accept some of it, and liked the setup — but then it went downhill for me. The strikes against it from me: a hero who says, oh, it is terrible some other guy is stalking you — because you belong to me! (he was kind of pushy in the physical intimacy and it seemed out of character given the setup); the unironic use of “Unnnnnhhhhh! Unnnnnnhhhh!” as dialogue during sex (that’s a climax, dontcha know!); and the hero confessing that every time they have sex he hopes the heroine’s pill fails so that she’ll be accidentally pregnant with his child. The treating of eating disorders and hate-baking may also not be cool for everyone; there’s an effort to deal with size discrimination but it seems uneven.
