  • Soulless

    Soulless by Gail Carriger

Soulless by Gail Carriger is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is the first book by the Parasol Protectorate series and for many readers, this book ignited their love for Carriger’s writing. I loved the first book, especially the heroine, but I agree with other reviewers in that there’s a lot of different things going on that conflict with one another. If you’re looking to get the entire series, it’s available for $16.99.

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire—and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London’s high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

  • The Infamous Heir

The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels

The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels is $2.99! This is book one in the Spare Heirs series. It features a prize-fighting hero who suddenly takes over his brother’s title of nobility. Readers wanted more chemistry between the hero and heroine, but many really loved the hero. I mean, based on the book’s description, who wouldn’t?

The Spare Heirs Society Cordially Invites You to Meet Ethan Moore: The Scoundrel

Lady Roselyn Grey’s debut has finally arrived, and of course, she has every flounce and flutter planned. She’ll wear the perfect gowns and marry the perfect gentleman…that is, if the formerly disinherited brother of the man she intends to marry doesn’t ruin everything first.

Ethan Moore is a prize-fighting second son and proud founding member of the Spare Heirs Society-and that’s all he ever should have been. But, in an instant, his brother’s noble title is his, the eyes of the ton are upon him, and the lady he’s loved for years would rather meet him in the boxing ring than the ballroom.

He’s faced worse. With the help of his Spare Heirs brotherhood, Ethan’s certain he can get to the bottom of his brother’s unexpected demise and win the impossible lady who has haunted his dreams for as long as he can remember…

  • Highland Dragon Warrior

Highland Dragon Warrior by Isabel Cooper

Highland Dragon Warrior by Isabel Cooper is $2.99! I enjoyed this book and so did Sarah. She gave it a B:

I had a really good time reading this book. I loved the detail, the integration of fantasy and chemistry and history and alchemy into the world of a Scottish castle in the 1300s, and I really liked Sophia and Cathal.

Dragon shapeshifter Cathal MacAlasdair is on the brink of losing a dangerous power to his enemy when a whip-smart alchemist strikes a bargain…and lights a fire inside his heart.

    Legend claims
When Scotland fell to English rule
The Highland dragons took a vow:
    Freedom at any price.

The war may be over, but so long as English magic controls the Highlands, not even a dragon laird can keep his clan safe. What Cathal MacAlasdair needs is a warrior fierce enough to risk everything, yet gifted enough to outwit an enemy more monster than man.

    What he needs is Sophia.

Alchemist Sophia Metzger traveled to Loch Arach in search of knowledge. She never dreamed she’d learn to do battle, ride through the stars on the back of a dragon, or catch the eye of a Highland laird. But as her quest turns to sizzling chemistry and inescapable danger, she’ll soon discover the thrill of being caught in a dragon’s claws…

  • Sinfully Ever After

Sinfully Ever After by Jayne Fresina

Sinfully Ever After by Jayne Fresina is $2.99! This is the second book in the Book Club Belles Society, though it can be read as a standalone. Some readers described this as two grumpy people falling in love, which is some major catnip. However, others felt the execution didn’t deliver.

Teaching scandalous young men a lesson? This is not your typical book club

To Rebecca Sherringham, all men are open books-read quickly and forgotten. Perhaps she’s just too practical for love. The last thing she needs is another bore around-especially one that’s supposed to be dead.

Captain Lucius “Luke” Wainwright turns up a decade after disappearing without a trace. He’s on a mission to claim his birthright and he’s not going away again until he gets it. But Becky and the ladies of the village Book Club Belles Society won’t let this rogue get away with his sins. He’ll soon find that certain young ladies are accustomed to dealing with villains.

  1. Heather S says:

Fresina’s Book Club Belles series tends to center around Austen, with one of her novels being read in each book (Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Persuasion, respectively) and plot points echoing those books. I enjoyed the first, but don’t recall ever finishing the second. I used to pick up Sourcebooks’ romances a lot because the covers are always gorgeous, but the stories themselves just don’t work for me.

  2. Laurel says:

Jessica Scott’s Because of You is 99 cents at Amazon. She writes really good military romance, and I have enjoyed all of her books.

  3. DonnaMarie says:

The Parasol Protectorate is totally worth the investment. I laughed. I cried. I bought the T-shirt.

  4. Ren Benton says:

In Highland Dragon Warrior, the heroine does 99% of the defeating of evil while the hero turns into a dragon for transportation purposes, basically. Heavy on the female competence scale, low on the dragon shifterness scale. They’re both busy trying to do their jobs, so there’s leisurely relationship development during which they develop mutual respect and admiration instead of immediately acting on their pants feelings.

  5. Iris says:

Doesn’t Soulless have a carriage sex scene which may be helpful to the romance bingo readers?

  6. KateB says:

Molly Tanzer’s CREATURES OF WILL AND TEMPER is $2.99!

I read this at the start of the year and loooooved it. It’s sort of a gender flipped THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY with sword fighting, demons, and queer ladies! The sequel comes out in November and I am so excited!

  7. JJB says:

@KateB: I agree Creatures of Will and Temper is awesome, but the next book Tanzer is putting out, Creatures of Want and Ruin (Nov 13), may be in the same universe, but it is a new story with new characters.
I mention this to be clear that Will and Temper is in fact a standalone, whole story. That’s one of the reasons why I liked it so much, actually; I love a good series, but sometimes you just want a complete story in one book…
