Hi, everyone! As some of you may know, most of the SBTB team will be at the RT Booklovers Convention in Reno, myself included. I take my job as your discounted smut peddler very seriously and I’ve scheduled some Books on Sale posts ahead of time while we’re away. Unfortunately, some of these deals may have expired by the time the posts are published and I certainly apologize for getting anyone’s hopes up about a particular sale.
Additionally, if you see any books on sale that you want to recommend, we’d love for you to let us know in the comments. I’m including our affiliate-linked retailers below. If you’d like to shop through them, it helps out the site and we thank you so much. If not, no worries at all!
Thank you for reading SBTB and if you’re in Reno, we hope you’re able to say hello!

The Viking Queen’s Men
The Viking Queen’s Men by Holley Trent is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a paranormal erotic romance with vikings and some menage elements. I have seen this recommended all over Twitter and I take my Twitter recommendations very seriously. However, some readers thought this was a historical romance and it is not.
First in a new modern Viking paranormal romance series!
Contessa Dahl has spent most of her life in a haze. A rudderless orphan, most decisions involved her fists and feet: should she fight or should she run? At twenty-eight, she’s ready to clean up her act, but Tess might be a bit premature because she’s destined to be a special kind of leader.
Born into a group of desert-dwelling telepathic descendants of Vikings, Tess was meant to become a link for them all—their queen and conduit. Her kidnapping and the subsequent death of her parents meant her people, the Afótama, have had a hole in their web for too long. Now that she’s back at home, it’s Tess’s job to mend it. But, she can’t do it alone.
She needs a perfect mate to fill in her psychic gaps, and two men claim to be fated for the job. Harvey Lang, her childhood champion, and the group outsider Oliver Gilisson would fight to the death to win her. However, to gain full control of her considerable power, she must find a way to keep them both.
[THE VIKING QUEEN’S MEN is an M/F/M romance that contains hot sex, bar brawls, and psychic snark.]

Luck Is No Lady
Luck Is No Lady by Amy Sandas is $1.99! This is the first book in the Fallen Ladies series and it came out earlier this year. I’m also loving the cover for this one. Many readers mentioned good book noises after finishing this romance, while others felt the romance between the hero and heroine wasn’t very convincing. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
“You should not have kissed me,” she replied breathlessly.
“I do a lot of things I shouldn’t. It does not mean I won’t do them again.”Gently bred Emma Chadwick always assumed she’d live and die the daughter of a gentleman. But when her father’s death reveals a world of staggering debt and dangerous moneylenders, she must risk her good name and put her talent for mathematics to use, taking a position as bookkeeper at London’s most notorious gambling hall. Surrounded by vice and corruption on all sides, it is imperative no one discovers Emma’s shameful secret or her reputation-and her life-will be ruined.
But Roderick Bentley, the hall’s sinfully wealthy owner, awakens a hunger Emma cannot deny. Drawn deep into an underworld of high stakes gambling and reckless overindulgence, she soon discovers that in order to win the love of a ruthless scoundrel, she will have to play the game…and give in to the pleasure of falling from grace.

Spice and Smoke
Spice and Smoke by Suleikha Snyder is 99c! This is the first book in the Bollywood Confidential series and Elyse loved the third book in this series. This book is a little on the shorter side, but features a Bollywood couple with an open marriage. Have you read this one?
When the cameras stop rolling, the real scene begins.
To their adoring public, Avi Kumar and Trishna Chaudhury are Bollywood’s sweethearts. Behind closed doors, their open marriage lets them freely indulge in all manner of forbidden passions. The arrangement suits them both, but as they begin filming on the set of their new movie, the heat of new and rekindled flames singes the pages of what they thought would be a fresh script. When costars Michael Gill and Harsh Mathur arrive on set, the sexual temperature goes up exponentially–at least for Trish. She can’t take her eyes of Harsh, for whom she’s carried a torch for years. Avi’s instant attraction to Michael, however, bounces off Michael’s solid wall of resistance.
Meanwhile, ex-boyfriends Vikram Malhotra and Sam Khanna, cast as fictional enemies, are finding it harder and harder to control the very real demons that once cost them the love of a lifetime.
Once the music starts, though, they all have no choice but to dance . And pray the fallout doesn’t ruin all their careers…and destroy their love.Add to Goodreads To-Read List →

Servant of the Crown
Servant of the Crown by Melissa McShane is 99c! This is a fantasy romance, though I’m unsure if it’s more young adult or adult. There seems to be a divide on where people shelf this on Goodreads. Readers enjoyed the political intrigue aspects, but mention that it’s slow to start.
Alison Quinn, Countess of Waxwold, is content with her bookish life—until she’s summoned to be a lady-in-waiting to the Queen of Tremontane’s mother for six months. Even the prospect of access to the Royal Library doesn’t seem enough to make up for her sacrifice, but Alison is prepared to do her service to the Crown. What she’s not prepared for is Prince Anthony North, Queen Zara’s playboy brother, who’s accustomed to getting what he wants—including the Countess of Waxwold.
When the fallout from an unfortunate public encounter throws the two of them together, Alison has no interest in becoming the Prince’s next conquest. But as the weeks pass, Alison discovers there’s more to Anthony than she—or he—realized, and their dislike becomes friendship, and then something more—until disaster drives Alison away, swearing never to return.
Then Alison is summoned by the Queen again, this time to serve as Royal Librarian. A threat to Tremontane’s government, with her treasured Library at stake, draws Alison into the conflict…and into contact with Anthony once more. Can they work together to save the Royal Library and Tremontane? And can she open her heart to love again?

A major plot point of Servant of the Crown is about how bad and gross and yucky pre-marital sex is, so if that’s not your thing, definitely skip it. I couldn’t finish the book because the sex-negative preachiness was so strong.
@ellenm That isn’t something I’m very alert to in my reading, but I didn’t get that impression from Servant of the Crown. It’s hard to discuss without spoilers, but the sexual element of the relationship between the leads is particularly subject to Alison’s insecurities as well as the ‘disaster’ of the blurb. Or are you referring to their past relationships (again, difficult not to spoil)?
No need to feel obligated to explain if it’s a book you’d rather not revisit in detail! You’ve kind of made me want to go back over it anyway, because I’ve read a few of Melissa McShane’s books and generally recommend them as fantasy romance. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had historical romance blinkers on for more problematic elements, unfortunately – I’ll keep this in mind for the next time the books come up in discussion.
I have never seen a romance with a hero named Harvey.
Huh.
Reno attendees: remember to drink a lot of water, by which I mean way more than you’re accustomed to. Although we have honest-to-goodness rain in the high desert today, don’t be fooled. Moisturize hands, lips, etc., and stay hydrated. Wish I could join you, but there don’t seem to be any public events. Have a great time.
Yes, Reno-ite here. Hoping I can get a day pass for Friday. Moisturize! Moisturize!
I loved the Amy Sands book! But I’m pretty sure it was published a year or two ago. I definitely have not read it this year.
