This HaBO comes from Christine, who is looking for a romantic suspense series. Content warning for the descriptions below:
This has been driving me crazy this week!
Here’s what I remember: I read these two books, which are part of a multi-book series about women connected to a forensic science lab in the Midwest (I think). I read them in ebook format within the last five years, I would guess.
In the first book, the main character works with bones and does facial reconstruction to find missing people. She’s highly sought after and has to turn cases away. I’m pretty sure she stumbles onto a case that’s connected to the son of a Congressman killing someone in a lake house, but I could definitely be wrong about that. Google tells me it might be by Iris Johansen, but I don’t think that’s correct.
In the second book, which I’m pretty sure is either in the same series as the first one or by the same author, the female protagonist is connected to the lab tangentially, by decides to go back to school (or something) and when she goes to enroll in classes, someone starts shootings at people from a clock tower. We later find out that the shooter was being blackmailed and was terminally ill and it’s all part of a larger conspiracy.
Something tells me that Elyse might be interested in the answer as well.

Laura Griffin’s Tracer series?
Definitely Laura Griffin
The sniper book is Snapped in the Griffin Tracer series
I finally know one of these! This for sure sounds like Laura Griffin’s Tracers series.
Aw man! I finally knew one but you guys beat me to it! Def. the Tracers series by Laura Griffin. Love that series!
Definitely, Tracers. Knew that as soon as I saw the title of the post, and it’s a private forensic lab in Texas.
The Iris Johansen is the Eve Duncan series. I believe it starts with Face of Deception.
Another vote for Laura Griffin.
I think Laura Griffin might have won a RITA with a book from this series
I first discovered Laura Griffin and the Tracers series when I read ‘Unstoppable’, which is book #2.5 (prequel to ‘Scorched’ book #6). It was how Kelsey and Gage first meet, and I LOVED it. It’s only $1.99 on Amazon as it’s a short story, but it’s probably my favorite Laura Griffin.
I’ve never heard of this series, but it sounds really fun. Because all of you I added it to my ginormus TBR
The first book referenced is Unstoppable, #2.5 in Laura Griffin’s Tracers series. The heroine is a forensic anthropologist at the Delphi Center in Texas. The next book referenced is Snapped, the 4th book in the series.
I’m up to date in the series and found the series got better with each book. Every book has some connection to the Delphi Center, which is a private company with forensic specialists in multiple disciplines.
While this isn’t the book or series, you might also enjoy Beverly Connor’s Dianne Fallon series that centers around a forensic anthropologist (and former human rights investigator) who now works at a museum in Georgia. It’s a mix of mystery, suspense.
And, aargh, now I’ve gone ahead & added the Tracers series to my TBR pile– that’s what I get for clicking this HaBO.
Commenting on this thread again because it made me want to read more of the Tracers series, and I am 99% sure that the first book mentioned is Unforgiveable, with Mia Voss and Ric Santos as the main couple. I just finished it Sunday night and it is so good!
