Links: Gerard Butler, Kobo, & Kickstarter

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Did you know that it’s Wednesday?! Thank you for all the birthday wishes last week. I had a great time eating some delicious pizza and A Quiet Place was pretty good. Not too spooky, but I’ve also had a weird interest in horror movies lately. Fingers crossed I’m getting braver! Additionally, Labyrinth is coming back to theaters April 29th to May 2nd. I plan on going and I invite you to check your area too!

Romance meets Jenga in this really cool new Kickstarter! The game is called Star-Crossed and has two weeks left. It’s already met its goal, so you’re guaranteed to get the product if you choose to back it. I’m also totally in love with the artwork.

Like fashion and history? Heard of the Underpinnings Museum? No? Well it’s an online museum (neat!) that specializes in the history of lingerie and other intimates. I discovered this from Cora Harrington (@lingerie_addict) on Twitter.

Fascinating article alert! “Why Pop Culture Links Women and Killer Plants” is a really interesting read and makes connections that had never really occurred to me.

The connection between deadly flora and women goes back centuries. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1844 short story, Rappaccini’s Daughter, revolves around a young maiden who herself becomes poisonous, having been raised in a toxic garden. The Woman Eater, a low-budget British horror film from the ’50s, features a tree that can resurrect the dead if it’s allowed to feast on women. The subject of Janet Fitch’s 1999 novel, White Oleander, is a femme fatale who kills her cheating lover with the venomous flower of the book’s title, and leaves her daughter abandoned to a string of foster homes.

The article uses film version of Annihilation as a jumping off point, though I didn’t feel there were any spoilers if you haven’t seen the film.

Sarah is on the Kobo Writing Life podcast! Of course, she talks about romance, but she also touches on the workshops she runs, social media, and monetization!

Gerard Butler seems very charming when talking about Scottish slang, don’t you think?

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Know any published Canadian romance writers? A Canadian library is looking for a romance-writer-in-residence:

It figures: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR isn’t even out yet and there are already sex toys based on it: https://avn.com/business/articles/novelty/avengers-inspire-new-toy-range-at-geeky-sex-toys-773968.html

I’ve heard rumours that Labyrinth is being made into a stage musical.

This is the first time I’ve ever thought Gerard Butler was attractive.

I found a really good blog on tumblr. NSFW for many of the other posts in that blog. This one post is sfw.

As always, SB Sarah made for a delightful and entertaining podcast guest. I stayed up way too late listening while I knitted. Is there a Bad Decisions Podcast Listening Club?

  7. @SB Sarah says:

Aw, thank you so much for the compliment! There should definitely be a Bad Decisions Podcast Listening Club. 😀

A couple weeks ago there was a link to the Agent Carter makeup and this may have already been talked about since then (sorry if so!) but I thought it would interest people that they’ve now added more to the line. An eyeshadow palette that looks like a passport, and compact that comes with a spy message decoder (!) I for one am very excited.

  9. @Heather — I was going to mention the Agent Carter makeup too. I bought the lipstick kit based on the link here, and it’s really fun. I’m planning to try the eyeshadows and the powder too.

I got my Agent Carter lipstick package today! I love it!

I must admit-I find Gerard Butler terribly attractive. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, I think he first came to my attention in an episode of An Unsuitable Job for a Woman. But my very favorite movie of his is Dear Frankie, with Emily Mortimer. It is a lovely movie, and he is so good.

    That Scottish slang was great!
