Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: “Hall Pass” Romance

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO request was sent in from Marcia, who is looking for a contemporary from the last few years:

I remember reading about this book, but I didn’t read the book per se.

Do you know about that “free pass” thing that many couples have, where you can have sex with one celebrity if the opportunity ever arises? Well, the book I’m looking for is about a woman that, when her flying ticket is upgraded to the first class (for causes I don’t remember right now), the celebrity seated right beside her is her one free pass. I know, right?! Who woulda thunk? Well, they really hit it off and…I don’t know what happens next, and I really, really would like to.

This book came out not too long ago – I think maybe 2, 3 years, tops.

I think this is the first time I’ve heard about a “hall pass” type romance.

Hmm, I wonder who my “free pass” would have been? And, btw, do married celebs have “free passes” with their partners? Seems better to assume not.

  2. Free pass for hubby and I was/is Sam Elliott and Katherine Ross. Handy that they are married too. 😆

I know I saw the blurb for this book but I can’t for my life remember where, when, who, or title. I must cogitate. And hope someone else in the Bitchery knows the title.

  3. I’m envious that Amanda doesn’t know Hall Pass (2011).

  4. MsCellanie says:

I don’t see how that would work in a romance novel. “Fiction with romantic elements,” maybe. But it seems detrimental to a HEA for those characters in a more traditional or conventional romance.

  5. KP says:

It sounds like it could be The Rock Star in Seat 3A by Jill Kargman.

  6. @Amanda says:

@Ken: I’ve definitely heard it, but would prefer to block it from my pop culture knowledge. 😛

  7. JMAE says:

It sounds like the Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale. The housewife is a Mormon on her way to LA to pitch a screenplay she’s written and met her crush (the actor) on the plane.

  8. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

@KP yep Rock Star was my pick for this too. I wasn’t really a fan of that book.

  9. Marcia says:

@KP: YEEESSS!! That’s exactly the book I was looking for! Thank you all so much for this, I’ll be buying it right about now!

  10. CarrieS says:

Well, now I want to know how it ends.

  11. RebeccaA says:

@ CarrieS Me too. I had to check it out of the Overdrive library just to read the last chapter.
