  • The Devil’s Revolver

The Devil’s Revolver by V.S. McGrath

The Devil’s Revolver by V.S. McGrath is $1.99! I added this book to my TBR pile after seeing author KJ Charles recommend it on Twitter. I’m also in love with the cover. Charles also wrote a review on Goodreads and mentioned that the book does deal with themes of racism and colonialism, if you’re worried about a whitewashed Western setting.

She is Hettie Alabama — unlikely, scarred, single-minded, and blood bound to a revolver forged by a demon.

The first book in an epic, magic-clad series featuring the Wild West reimagined as a crosscultural stereoscope of interdimensional magic and hardship, The Devil’s Revolver opens with a shooting competition and takes off across the landscape after a brutal double murder and kidnapping — to which revenge is the only answer. Hettie Alabama, only seventeen years old, leads her crew of underdogs with her father’s cursed revolver, magicked to take a year off her life each time she fires it. It’s no way for a ranch girl to grow up, but grow up she does, her scars and determination to rescue her vulnerable younger sister deepening with every year of life she loses.

A sweeping and high-stakes saga that gilds familiar Western adventure with powerful magic and panoramic fantasy, The Devil’s Revolver is the last word and the blackest hat in the Weird West.

  • Deadly Strain

    Deadly Strain by Julie Rowe

Deadly Strain by Julie Rowe is $1.99! This book was recommended on two podcasts: one with Sassy Outwater and one with Reader Meka. It’s romantic suspense with a bioterrorism angle and while readers loved the non-stop action, some wished there was more focus on the romance. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

Major Grace Samuels, a trauma surgeon deployed to Afghanistan, spends her life helping her fellow soldiers overcome disease and combat injuries. But her own wounds are harder to heal. Wracked with guilt over the death of a fellow soldier, she finds comfort in her only friend and appointed bodyguard, weapons sergeant Jacob “Sharp” Foster.

Sharp feels more for Grace than a soldier should, more than he wants to admit. When the team discovers a new, quick-to-kill strain of Anthrax, he tries to focus on the mission to find its source. He knows he can help Grace defeat her demons, but first they must defeat the deadly outbreak.

Sharp is Grace’s most loyal ally, but in close quarters, he starts to feel like more. She can’t watch someone else she cares about die—but she might not have a choice. The closer they get to finding the source of the strain, the closer it gets to finding them.

  • Royally Matched

    Royally Matched by Emma Chase

Royally Matched by Emma Chase is 99c! This is the second book in her Royally Screwed series and features a royal on a reality show. The heroine is mousy and loves reading, if that’s your catnip. I was pretty meh on the first book in the series, but I was hopeful since the hero does a lot of growing in that one. So maybe read them in order? Though it’s no necessary.

Some men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry John Edgar Thomas Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.

    He’s not handling it well.

Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:

    Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.

A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.

While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.

The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit… and her naughty sense of humor.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.

As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.

  • Tell Me a Story – Complete Novel

Tell Me a Story – Complete Novel by Tamara Lush

Tell Me a Story by Tamara Lush is 99c! I believe this was released in parts previously, but this is the complete novel. I definitely recommend listening to Lush’s podcast episode with Sarah on this book and her Amtrak residency! Readers say there are some twists and turns in this romance and if you want to remain unspoiled, be careful reading reviews!

A flirtatious reading of erotica blossoms into something deep and tender in the steamy Florida heat…

Emma, a bookstore owner and writer, meets a wealthy developer named Caleb at a literary event in Orlando. Daringly, she shares with him a reading of her erotica. Soon both of them are feeling the effects … and Emma’s wondering what kind of lover is underneath Caleb’s expensive suit. Soon the couple are spending every available moment together. Can she trust him with her life as she does with her body? Or will the prickly walls built during her harsh past keep them apart?

And what happens when their idyllic relationship faces the ultimate test?

This is the story of Emma and Caleb’s journey.

Tell Me a Story: The Story Series-Complete Novel is a modern-day fairy tale of lust, love and temptation, and also of marriage, memory and destiny.

This is the boxed set of all FIVE e-book episodes: Tell Me a Story, Tell Me a Desire, Tell Me a Lie, Tell Me a Secret and Tell Me a Truth!

  1. Rose says:

I LOVE everything Weird West and that cover is giving me the best spine tingles. Click.

  2. Mona says:

Royally Matched doesn’t sound to appealing, unless it comes with Elyse style commentary and women bonding. Also: the heroines’s name is Titebottom? And she is not like the other girls? Ugh.

  3. Amanda says:

@Mona: Chase’s royals series isn’t very serious, haha. When the heroine of this one was introduced in the first one with her last name being “tight bottom,” I cackled, but of course, YMMV.

  4. S.Rose says:

Vicki Essex who wrote for Back to the Good Fortune Diner and some other titles for Harlequin is now writing YA as V.S. McGrath. I’m a big fan!

  5. Mona says:

@Amanda Usually I enjoy bad puns, maybe I am too cranky and shouldn’t judge the book too much based on its blurb!

  6. Janine says:

I read the third novel in the Royals series and really liked what I saw of Henry and Sarah in that one. Sarah is more complicated than the summary conveys, and the way Henry deals with her complications (at least, once their relationship is resolved) is very well-done.

  7. JayneH says:

I love Julie Rowe’s Suspense Books. They feature mostly STEM Heroines & Military/Ex-Military Heroes. She’s from a STEM background herself and with a tag line of “Where Beakers meet Bullets” who can go wrong!?

  8. Lora says:

@Mona–I went there too. Tittie-bottom? heheheheh cue beavis and butthead.

  9. Darlynne says:

I read the sample for THE DEVIL’S REVOLVER and really liked it, so that was a one-click. The “burn-it-all-down” look on the H’s face was a plus. I was also reminded a little of Devon Monk’s HOUSE IMMORTAL series and that’s always a very good thing.

  10. Meka says:

Oh my gosh, I loved deadly Strain so much! Also, this steampunk? book is making me want to throw myself in!

  11. chacha1 says:

Royally Matched … the heroine’s name is seriously Von Titebottum? Is this a James Bond script in disguise?

  12. Anony Miss says:

    YOU HAD ME AT TITEBOTTOM

  13. Anonymous says:

I’m kind of fascinated by how the Chase title is either Maximum Catnip or Maximum Bug Repellent.

  14. Bu says:

    @ S.Rose

Thank you so much! I remember loving Back to the Good Fortune Diner and would never have known it was the same author otherwise!
