This Rec League comes from us! Or more particularly, Sarah! We’re looking for travel romances, romances that take place while traveling or on vacation, or just far from “home.”
Sarah: Rosalind James’ Escape to New Zealand series ( A ). The conflict is low low low angst but the virtual travel to New Zealand was really fun for me.
Amanda: Roman Crazy ( A | BN | K | G | AB ) is something I’d consider a travel romance. Heroine goes to Italy for the summer following her divorce.
Sarah: Yes, a very good example. Nonfiction, Paris Letters ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au ) too.
I’ve read Paris Letters twice I think.
Elyse: Against All Odds ( A | BN | K | G | AB )
NB: We really want recommendations from books you’re read and enjoyed. Knowing a book has that element is great, but knowing a book has that element and that you enjoyed it or know someone who did is better!

Oh, I have so many historical travel book recs!
Miss Jacobson’s Journey by Carola Dunn has Napoleonic War era spies and Jewish main characters.
The Abduction of Julia by Karen Hawkins, a very fun Gretna Green road trip story where the hero snatches the wrong woman.
The Accidental Abduction by Darcie Wilde, in this one the heroine abducts the hero!
Devil’s Cub by Georgette Heyer of course is all road trip.
Angel Rogue by Mary Jo Putney, road tripping across England mainly on foot.
The Cockermouth Mail by Dinah Dean, I know it got a good review here but I can’t find it. (how do we search for a particular book review anyway?)
The Exiles by Nita Abrams, British in Vienna, Napoleonic era.
Whisper of Scandal by Nicola Cornick, hero is an Arctic explorer, travel to Greenland.
My Lady Notorious by Jo Beverly-hero and heroine traveling across England in disguise.
Night Hawk by Beverly Jenkins takes place mostly on the road, American West.
The Other Guy’s Bride by Connie Brockway, very funny, sort of like the heroine of Bringing Up Baby meets Indiana Jones, it takes place in Egypt.
The Resolute Runaway by Charlotte Louise Dolan, British heroine finds herself stranded in Belgium
The Runaway Duke by Julie Anne Long
A Secret in Her Kiss by Ann Randol, British spies in Constantinople
Sleep in the Woods by Dorothy Eden, early English settlers in New Zealand, highly recommended!
An Unconventional Heiress by Paula Marshall, early English settlers in Australia, also great!
Veils of Silk by Mary Jo Putney, set in India.
Heaven in His Arms by Lisa Ann Verge, very early(1600’s) French pioneers in Canada.
Indiscreet by Carolyn Jewel, travel adventures in the Ottoman Empire, highly recommended!
I could go on and one, road trips and foreign settings are my favorite!
This may have already been mentioned, but Deanna Raybourn’s Dark Road to Darjeeling also seems to fit the bill.
If you like Mary Stewart, you might like MM Kaye’s suspense novels (Death in the Andamans, Death in Zanzibar, Death in etc.). They tend to feature young, inexperienced heroines traveling to foreign parts and getting tangled up in murder and falling in love.
