  • Marriage of Inconvenience

    Genre: ,
Series: Knitting in the City #7

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

Elyse says: Knitting + Romance = Elyse Trap.

  • The Baby Plan

The Baby Plan by Kate Rorick

    Author: Kate Rorick
Released: March 20, 2018 by William Morrow Paperbacks
    Genre: ,

In Kate Rorick’s first adult fiction novel, we enter the wild, bewildering world of modern pregnancies. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll shake your head as you wonder where everyone’s sanity went…

    Meet the mothers…

Nathalie Kneller: Nathalie’s plan: to announce her pregnancy now that she’s finally made it past twelve weeks! But just as she’s about to deliver (so to speak) the big news to her family, her scene-stealing sister barfs all over the Thanksgiving centerpiece. Yup, Lyndi’s pregnant too, swiping the spotlight once more…

Lyndi Kneller:  Lyndi’s plan: finally get her life together! She’s got a new apartment, new promotion, new boyfriend. What she didn’t count on—a new baby! She can barely afford her rent, much less a state-of-the-art stroller…

Sophia Nunez: Sophia’s plan: Once she gets her daughter Maisey off to college, she’ll finally be able to enjoy life as make-up artist to one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and girlfriend to one of rock’s hottest musicians. But after 18 years she discovers the stork is once again on its way…

Now these women are about to jump headlong into the world of modern day pregnancy. It’s a world of over the top gender reveal parties (with tacky cakes and fireworks); where every morsel you eat is scrutinized and discussed; where baby names are crowd-sourced and sonograms are Facebook-shared. And where nothing goes as planned…

Sarah says: Kate Rorick/Kate Noble writes very funny conversations between very smart people, and I’m curious to see how this story, about three women who are pregnant at different stages of their lives, turns out.

Despite the gossip swirling about her, Sir Charles, a knight and member of the Queen’s Guard, is drawn to her vibrancy. After all, scandals are nothing new at Queen Elizabeth’s court. Unfortunately, Mary does not have the wealth or rank to survive them unscathed and soon finds herself on the outside of society’s good graces. • Emergency Contact

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

    Author: Mary H.K. Choi
Released: March 27, 2018 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
    Genre: ,

From debut author Mary H.K. Choi comes a compulsively readable novel that shows young love in all its awkward glory—perfect for fans of Eleanor & Park and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

For Penny Lee high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she somehow managed to land a boyfriend, he doesn’t actually know anything about her. When Penny heads to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer, it’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind.

Sam’s stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on a mattress on the floor of an empty storage room upstairs. He knows that this is the god-awful chapter of his life that will serve as inspiration for when he’s a famous movie director but right this second the seventeen bucks in his checking account and his dying laptop are really testing him.

When Sam and Penny cross paths it’s less meet-cute and more a collision of unbearable awkwardness. Still, they swap numbers and stay in touch—via text—and soon become digitally inseparable, sharing their deepest anxieties and secret dreams without the humiliating weirdness of having to see each other.

Amanda says: Honestly, I’m just in love with this cover.

And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, it’s too late.

Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. • The Other Mother

The Other Mother by Carol Goodman

    Author: Carol Goodman
Released: March 27, 2018 by William Morrow Paperbacks
    Genre:

From the author of the internationally bestselling The Lake of Dead Languages comes a gripping novel about madness, motherhood, love, and trust.

When Daphne Marist and her infant daughter, Chloe, pull up the gravel drive to the home of Daphne’s new employer, it feels like they’ve entered a whole new world. Tucked in the Catskills, the stone mansion looks like something out of a fairy tale, its lush landscaping hiding the view of the mental asylum just beyond its border. Daphne secured the live-in position using an assumed name and fake credentials, telling no one that she’s on the run from a controlling husband who has threatened to take her daughter away.

Daphne’s new life is a far cry from the one she had in Westchester where, just months before, she and her husband welcomed little Chloe. From the start, Daphne tries to be a good mother, but she’s plagued by dark moods and intrusive thoughts that convince her she’s capable of harming her own daughter. When Daphne is diagnosed with Post Partum Mood Disorder, her downward spiral feels unstoppable—until she meets Laurel Hobbes.

Laurel, who also has a daughter named Chloe, is everything Daphne isn’t: charismatic, sophisticated, fearless. They immediately form an intense friendship, revealing secrets to one another they thought they’d never share. Soon, they start to look alike, dress alike, and talk alike, their lives mirroring one another in strange and disturbing ways. But Daphne realizes only too late that being friends with Laurel will come at a very shocking price—one that will ultimately lead her to that towering mansion in the Catskills where terrifying, long-hidden truths will finally be revealed…

Elyse says: This gothic thriller looks really messed up and perfect for me.

RHG says: He’s a spymaster, she’s a princess or maybe an actress, maybe there’s some light assassinations. Basically this looks like a bunch of plot and I’m in the mood for a lot of plot, especially if there’s a fake princess.

  • Whiskey Sharp: Jagged

Whiskey Sharp: Jagged by Lauren Dane

    Author: Lauren Dane
Released: March 27, 2018 by HQN Books
    Genre: ,
    Series: Whiskey Sharp #2

The sweetest reward comes after the longest wait

Vicktor Orlov took one look at the wary gaze and slow-to-trust personality of the deliciously sexy and fascinating Rachel Dolan and knew he wanted more than just a casual friendship. But as a natural protector, he also knew bossiness and overprotective maneuvering would push her away. He’ll use every tool in his easygoing arsenal to convince her to take a chance on them.

Rachel’s flourishing new career as a tattoo artist has brought color back into a life previously damaged by violence. She knows she can trust Vic—it’s herself she’s not sure of. She doesn’t want to be caged or controlled, protected so much she has no ability to make her own choices. And damn if the man doesn’t know it.

When Vic finally drops all pretenses of “just friends” and focuses all his careful affection and irresistible seduction on her, Rachel knows she’s falling hard for the laid-back pretty-boy Russian she’s discovered has a relentlessly steel spine when it comes to her.

    And she can’t resist.

Sarah says: It’s the sequel to Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled, which I very much enjoyed. I’m a little nervous to find out what awful crap the heroines’ parents are going to pull next. If abusive narcissist parents who gaslight and control their children are upsetting for you, approach with caution.

I’m usually a library reader, but I have HURTS TO LOVE YOU, THE BROKEN GIRLS, Seanan McGuire’s TRICKS FOR FREE (March 6), and Alexis Hall’s A LORD FOR WHENEVER (March 20) all up for preorder!

I would preorder KJ Charles’s LAST COUPLE IN HELL, which Goodreads *says* is out March 8, but it isn’t up on Amazon. And it’s a F/F romance, too!

I’m pumped in any case. So many of my fave authors with new books!!

  2. MirandaB says:

Imposter Syndrome by Mishell Baker comes out on the 13th. This is the 3rd in her Arcadia series and has a heroine with borderline personality disorder.

  3. Ren Benton says:

Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone is out on the 6th.

  4. Jill Q. says:

I’m excited for Obsidio, more specifically the audio version because they are crafted almost like an old fashioned radio play.

Emergency Contact looks intriguing too. Fingers crossed the library buys it because I don’t often take risks on a brand new author.

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Really looking forward to Sierra Simone’s SINNER on March 15. It’s a sequel, of sorts, to PRIEST (the best book I’ve read so far this year) and MIDNIGHT MASS—this time the hero is the priest’s brother. Also, can’t wait for the Alisha Rai—especially since I just read the first two books last week (better late than never).

  6. Lora says:

Emergency Contact has a pretty cover, an interesting concept and the blurb invoked Eleanor and Park. Take mah money now!

  7. Olivia says:

Camp is still writing Moreland books?????!!!!! I loved those so much, definitely time for a revisit.

I also recently read Alisha Rai and feel in love with them, so excited for the new one. There’s also a new Argeneau Lynsay Sands coming out, and even if some have issues, they are always a decent read, so usually an insta-buy.

I’m so far behind on looking for new books, feels like forever since I went to a bookstore. I even though Pierce’s long awaited book was coming out this month, was totally last month, which I’m a little surprised there hasn’t been a review since there seem to be a bunch of Tortall fans here.

  8. vkinsb says:

Obsidio!!!! I have been waiting! I am buying the print version as the book doesn’t translate well on kindle.

  9. Sharon says:

The Courtly Scandals book sounds great, but the costumes on the cover models is driving me crazy–that is NOT Elizabethan-era dress, that’s medieval, that’s pre-Tudor dress. Ugh, the plight of being a history nerd and loving historicals. Don’t get me start on when Regency-era romances feature a Christmas tree at the holidays

  10. DonnaMarie says:

You’ve hit all the books on my list: Simone St James, Alisha Rai, Lauren Dane, but how in the world did I miss that H in Hot and Badgered/i> is a bear shifter?! A BEAR SHIFTER!! Bad Decisions Bookclub™, here I come.

  11. Darlynne says:

Re: THE BROKEN GIRLS. @Elyse, is this going to be another psychological thriller like BEHIND HER EYES, which I hated and, given enough time and alcohol, would produce a diatribe about authors who think it’s clever to manipulate readers? Or another book with completely unlikable characters?

I’m encouraged that Sarah says it’s safe for her and her brain, but obviously I carry a lot of residual fury about this genre.

  12. Elyse says:

@Darlynne Broken Girls is very much about women supporting and believing other women and helping them heal from their trauma. It is a thriller but it doesn’t gaslight the reader

  13. LauraL says:

Counting on a Countess is added to my Wish List. I can’t resist those Cornwall smugglers. Also, The Secret of Flirting, although spymasters seem to be getting to be as common as Dukes in Regencyland.

I’m reading an ARC of Spiced, book number six in Jamie Farrell’s Misfit Brides series, to be released this weekend. Her writing just keeps getting better and I needed a fun book after all the scarred hero stories I’ve been reading lately. Tony the pizza man comes to the rescue as Pepper’s fake boyfriend. We all know how this is going to work out. 😉

  14. Cristie says:

Josh Lanyon’s The Magicians Murders is also out this month. It’s the third book in the Art of Murder series. Just finished the first book, The Mermaid Murders, this week & loved it so I’m excited for this one. Just wish frickin Amazon would put it up for pre-order already.

  15. Judy W. says:

KateB! Thank you for mentioning the Alexis Hall book! I had no idea there would be a Hall book coming out and I adore everything he writes. There isn’t even a blurb for the book on Amazon but I couldn’t one-click fast enough.

  16. Ariadna says:

I think that, other than KJ Charles’ newest book, this the first month in which I don’t have anything pre-ordered. So my wallet’s taking a break, for once.

  17. Ariadna says:

CORRECTION: Also, Alexis Hall’s new book. 😉

Compared to other months, tho, that’s almost nothing.

  18. […] releases: Smart Bitches (romance) and All About […]

  19. Heather S says:

I am looking forward to the release of “Herding Cats” by Sarah Andersen (of Sarah’s Scribbles). I relate to her cartoon self so much.

  20. Demi says:

It’s my birthday month, which makes excessive book purchasing valid…right? I’m so excited for ALL THE BOOKS, even as I climb Mt. TBR.
Currently reading “Behold the Dreamers” by Imbolo Mbue, which is not *exactly* a romance, but is amazing nonetheless.

  21. Kareni says:

I’m eager to read Lake Silence by Anne Bishop and Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs. I see some other enticing choices, too.

  22. ClaireC says:

SO excited for Alisha Rai and Shelly Laurenston’s books!!! Just put myself on the hold list for Hot & Badgered at the library … I’m #54 🙁 Maybe I’ll cave and pre-order it, though $10 will be the most I’ve ever spent on an ebook. In the meantime, I think there will definitely be a re-read of Livvy’s book, and I need to read the first in Eva Leigh’s new series before I get the second one.

  23. Anna says:

I’m really excited for Alisha Rai’s Hurts to Love You, but I’m also super psyched for Kate Meader’s Undone By You – m/m hockey romance!! I’ve really enjoyed the series thus far, so I’m looking forward to the next installment.
