Lord of Darkness

Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! This is book five in the Maiden Lane series, which I know is a favorite in the Bitchery. I’m up to book three and I’m enjoying it so far. I think there’s some consensus that the books can operate as standalones, but it’s best to read them in order. Would you agree?
When Strangers In The Night
He lives in the shadows. As the mysterious masked avenger known as the Ghost of St. Giles, Godric St. John’s only goal is to protect the innocent of London. Until the night he confronts a fearless young lady pointing a pistol at his head—and realizes she is his wife.
Become Lovers…
Lady Margaret Reading has vowed to kill the Ghost of St. Giles—the man who murdered her one true love. Returning to London, and to the man she hasn’t seen since their wedding day, Margaret does not recognize the man behind the mask. Fierce, commanding, and dangerous, the notorious Ghost of St. Giles is everything she feared he would be—and so much more.
Desire Is The Ultimate Danger
When passion flares, these two intimate strangers can’t keep from revealing more of themselves than they had ever planned. But when Margaret learns the truth—that the Ghost is her husband—the game is up and the players must surrender…to the temptation that could destroy them both.

It Takes a Scandal by Caroline Linden is $1.99! This is book two in the Scandalous series, and it has a 3.7-star average on GoodReads. Readers particularly liked that the heroine in this book has a loving home life with caring parents and a close relationship with her sister, and that they are not of the nobility. Many readers also loved the beta hero, Sebastian. Have you read this one?
Sometimes It Takes a Scandal…
Abigail Weston has everything: beauty, wit, and one of the largest dowries in England. Her parents hope she’ll wed an earl. Abigail hopes for a man who wants her desperately and passionately. But the money seems to blind every man she meets—except one.
Sebastian Vane has nothing. He came home from war with a shattered leg to find his father mad and his inheritance gone. He’s not a fit suitor for anyone, let alone an heiress. But Abigail lights up his world like a comet, bright and beautiful and able to see him instead of his ruined reputation. And it might end happily ever after…
To Reveal Your Heart’s Desire
…Until Benedict Lennox begins courting Abigail. Ben is everything Sebastian isn’t—wealthy, charming, heir to an earl. Sebastian won’t give up the only girl he’s ever loved without a fight, but Abigail must choose between the penniless gentleman who moves her heart, and the suitor who is everything her parents want.

Heart of Iron by Bec McMaster is $1.99! This is the second book in the London Steampunk series and Elyse talked about the series in a podcast episode on comfort reading. Readers mention there’s a lot going on and it’s packed with action and romance, but some found it tough to follow along.
In the mist-shrouded streets of London’s dreaded Whitechapel district, werewolves, vampires, and a clockwork army are one step away from battle…
No One to Trust
Dangerous. Unpredictable. That’s how people know the hulking Will Carver. And those who don’t like pretty words just call him The Beast. No matter how hard Will works to suppress his werewulfen side, certain things drive him beyond all control. And saucy Miss Lena Todd tops the list.
Lena makes the perfect spy against the ruling Echelon blue bloods. No one suspects that under the appearance of flirtatious debutante lies a heart of iron. Not even the ruthless Will Carver, the one man she can’t wrap around her finger and the one man whose kiss she can never forget. He’s supposed to be protecting her, but he might just be her biggest threat yet…

Tall, Dark and Deadly by Lisa Renee Jones is 99c at Amazon! This is a set of three romantic suspense stories, plus a little bonus novella. Readers enjoy the headstrong heroines nearly as much as the sexy heroes, who all happen to be brothers. A few found a couple of the heroes to be on the verge of alpha-hole territory, but the series seems to be well-enjoyed overall. It has a 4-star rating on GoodReads.
HOT SECRETS: Book 1 Royce Walker
Royce Walker, a former FBI Agent, who’s opened a private security firm with his brothers, has always had the hots for the prim, proper Assistant District Attorney, but considered her hand’s off because of a family connection. However, when danger threatens Lauren, he isn’t willing to stand by and watch her get hurt. Now the passion for survival is only rivaled by the passion burning between them. And that passion, might just be the death of them both.
DANGEROUS SECRETS: Book 2 Luke Walker
Being a divorce attorney for the rich and famous isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Julie Harrison has learned that love doesn’t last, and she’s sworn never to make the same mistakes as her mother, or her clients. She uses the games men play to keep them at a distance. The only man who managed to break down her walls was Luke Walker, a Navy SEAL who loved her and left her, and changed her forever.
When Luke arrives back in New York, running Walker Security with his brothers and having left his Navy SEAL days behind, he sets his sights on Julie, the woman he’s always wanted and couldn’t have. Except, she runs from him every time he gets close.
But now, one of Julie’s clients, a powerful judge, gets involved with a dangerous cartel, and his soon-to-be-ex wife ends up dead. Julie’s next on the list, and she finds herself on the run from those who believe she knows too much, and counting on Luke to keep her alive. In the deepest, darkest moments of the night, passion will bring them together while danger threatens to tear them apart. Can Julie and Luke trust each other and find their happy ending before they find … the end?
BENEATH THE SECRETS: Book 3 Blake Walker
Two will paths collide. Two people who will do anything, including sleeping with the enemy, to avenge or save someone they love. But what if everything isn’t as it seems and the enemy isn’t the enemy at all? Can these two broken people drawn together by their sizzling hot attraction see beyond their pain and their need for vengeance Undoubtedly, they will face the ghosts of their pasts, but will those ghost destroy them or forever bind them?
SECRETS EXPOSED: A bonus story lightly connected
Attorney Lindsey Paxton is about to have a brutal case from her past come back to haunt her in the most dangerous of ways. To survive she will end up in the arms of a man she considers her enemy, but might just be her only salvation.

Lord of Darkness is not on sale at Amazon as I write this 🙁 I love that series and want to own them all (borrowed the first few books and bought the rest. Been trying to catch them on sale, without much luck so far *sigh*
@Elva: It’s still on sale for me! It might be U.S. only if you’re outside the States.
Book 3 is good but Maiden Lane really picks up with Book 4. And Duke of Montgomery is my favorite rake hero of all time (but he’s Book 10). Ah you have so many good books in front of you!!
@Caitlin: I’ve been listening to them on audio and I love the narrator! Her accent for Charming Mickey is fantastic.
As much as I love the Maiden Lane series, my favorite Elizabeth Hoyt book is the Raven Prince. It made me laugh and was unconventional in that the hero and the heroine are not stunningly beautiful.
Thumbs up for the Caroline Linden one — great hero. I’d pick it up at this price, no question.
Loved Lord of Darkness – one of my favourites in the Maiden Lane series. Highly recommend.
@jws: You’re not alone – The Raven Prince is my favorite EHoyt too.
A second thumbs up for It Takes a Scandal. As MClaudia says, great hero.
I’ll have to read The Raven Prince now that I have recovered from reading all the Maiden Lane books in order. And I would recommend reading them in order for the character story lines that weave through the series. Asa Makepeace is my favorite hero, with the Duke of Montgomery a close second, both in later books.
Loved all the Maiden Lane books and agree that they can stand alone but work best in order. I can never remember the titles (true of Hoyt’s Prince books, too!), but Godric’s story (Lord of Darkness, the one here) was my second fave after Winter’s story (just checked: that one was Thief of Shadows).
Love, love, love Maiden Lane (adding this to my collection!). They’re perfectly able to hold up as standalones, but I agree that they’re richer and more nuanced when read in order. The interweaving storylines are excellent and the female friendships developed over the course of the series are wonderful.
James Trevillion all the way. Dearest Rogue was my runaway favorite.
I started Maiden Lane by reading Val’s story. I then read the earlier books out of order (not all were available in my local library). But whichever order that you read it in, the series is fantastic.
And Winter Makepeace all the way!
I really like the cover for Lord of Darkness, and yet, I feel like he must be trying to steal her necklace. That’s why his shirt is unbuttoned but still tucked in. The seduction is a distraction and it’ll be easier to make a clean getway if he just has to button his shirt on the go.
Yota: Valid.
(Also, a thing I liked about Godric as a hero is that he’s older! He has SUFFERED. He does not look like that cover dude! Maybe that cover dude is only PRETENDING to be Godric so he can steal that lady’s necklace. It could happen.)
