Lit Wicks is back! This is where we pair an author’s backlist with candles to really immerse yourself in the reading experience. All of the candles featured in these post are from Etsy, which means there is often worldwide shipping and you’re supporting independent sellers. The Etsy candle rabbit hole is one I have gone down many times.
This month, we’re focusing on Nora Roberts! Roberts has written A LOT of romances, so we’re narrowing it down to only several of her series.
If you’re curious about what other authors have received the Lit Wicks treatment, check out our category page!

Bride Quartet: The Bride Quartet is all about wedding planning! There are so many yummy smelling “cake” scented candles out there, plus others that bring to mind bouquets and delicate fabrics if you’re not big on candles that smell like food items. And because weddings are a recurring theme in the series, any of these candles could work well for all four books.Candle: Whiskey Wicks — Wedding Cake Wood Wick Candle 2oz. ($8.25)
The candle is said to smell like buttercream frosting (which is my favorite of all the frostings – get that fondant outta here) and the wood wick creates an awesome “crackling” sound when burning.
Candle: Lulu Sugar — Bridal Bouquet 8oz. ($18)
Though “bridal bouquet” is a rather general term, many reviews say this candle smells just like walking into a flower shop.
Candle: Attic Eleven — Vintage Lace 8oz. ($14)
This “vintage lace” candle smells like lavender and chamomile. It sounds like a very soft and soothing scent.
The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy: The covers in this series do such a great job of communicating a sense of place. Set in Ireland, the covers feature lots of greenery and just a dash of mystery and eeriness. Though this is a newer series, it still contains Roberts trademark romance with a hint of magic. Oh, and there are horses!Though the candles below work the best for the first book, Dark Witch, the dark woodsy scents will have you burning them long after you’ve finished your reading.
Candle: The Irish Chandler — The Cottage Hedge 4oz. ($12.85)
The Irish Chandler has all your Irish candle needs. This one has notes of honeysuckle, nettle, and elderflower.
Candle: Lumiere Candle Company — Fresh Hay 4oz. ($6)
Wax Melt: Lumiere Candle Company — Twilight Woods 1.5oz ($1.75)
We had a request to include wax melts when possible and we’re in the mindset of ask and ye shall receive. For those unfamiliar, wax melts are chunks of wax that release a scent when melted. I alternate using wax melts and candles. Melts, to me, have a more intense scent, but don’t last as long. Amazon has a great selection of warmers – just be sure you don’t buy one for hair waxing!
The Guardians Trilogy: Set in Greece, this paranormal contemporary brings together an eclectic group of people who essentially need to save the world. No big deal, right? The heroine of the first book, Stars of Fortune, is an artist whose strange visions lead her to Corfu. She begins to recognize people as those she has previously painted and then things start to get a little bonkers. In a good way.
Candle: MIZU Brand — Fig & Olive ($24.50)
Candle: Opal and Wonder — Artist 8oz. ($15.99)
I really love the packaging of this shop and their themed candles. This one has scents of blood orange and goji berries.
Chesapeake Bay: Aw, yeah! Late nineties Nora! As you could guess by the series name, these books are set in Chesapeake Bay and including these was Sarah’s suggestion because she loved them and because of all the candles which could fit with the sea and sailing theme.Surprisingly, do you know how hard it is to find a “sailing” themed candle? It was tough! I only managed to find candles that looked like boats or that would float on water. Not quite what I was going for there.
Candle: The Columbia Fragrance Co. — On the Chesapeake 8oz. ($18), Wax Melt Version ($5.25)
Candle: Vintage Created — Sea Salt 12oz. ($13.99)
Candle: Sea Oats Candle Company — Coastal Bliss 8.5oz. ($24)
The Donovans: Another suggestion from Sarah because of its magic and West Coast setting! (ed. And because it’s pretty nifty.) This series was first published in the early nineties with the first book being Captivated. The hero is a screenwriter who is desperate to find a “consultant” on witchcraft, which is where the heroine comes into play.
Also…are witchcraft consultants a thing? Because that sounds like a pretty cool job and one I’d love to see more of in romance.
Candle: Cottage Wicks — Full Moon Ritual 8oz. ($24)
The candle includes scents of rose, sandalwood, and jasmine. If you are into aromatherapy, check out the Etsy sale page to see what the scents are meant to do!
Candle: Hazel Candle Company — Pacific Breeze 7.5oz. ($15)

What did you think of the candles picked for these Nora Roberts’ series? Which series should really get the Lit Wicks treatment? Maybe there should be a Lit Wicks: Nora Roberts, Part Two!

But what would you suggest for the In Death series? (I suspect something coffee-scented)
How about candles for her new series, the dystopian magical world of Year One? Candles are especially fitting as the electric grid collapses.
@Meg, I can’t find anything with a quick google search, but I bet somewhere out there there’s a coffee and leather candle with hints of maple.
What Meg said! I want an IN DEATH series of candles. I agree something leathery and coffe-ish for Eve but what does Roarke smell like? And Summerset (LOLOL)? Mavis, Peabody and Nadine? Feeney! Oh the possibilities!
The bff used be a Party light consultant, so I have enough candles to a) supply this post and b) last until the viral/magic apocalypse. I’m more excited to realize there are not one, but TWO, Nora Roberts trilogies I haven’t read. GBPL here I come!
It’s been a while since I’ve read them, but wouldn’t the IN DEATH series also need the smell of a tube of Pepsi?
My favorite scents have beachy/marine notes, so I can recommend Inis from Ireland (https://www.inisfragrance.com) and Sea Island Cotton from Bath & Body Works. Yankee Candle also has a few ocean scents. Their Sandcastles scent has a hint of suntan lotion, and Ocean Star takes me back to the beach when I need it.
Wow! what a great selection of candles and thanks so much for the mention… we have a new selection of Author inspired candles being released here… www. theirishchandler.com or via the Etsy link on our pic above.
Oh, how I love the mysterious woodsy scents. ATM I have a lovely candle called “Petrichor” that smells like “the earth after a rain.” For reals. It’s amazing.
Also, “Sherlock’s Lounge” – this scent might do for an “In Death”??
Love these posts, Amanda!
So many that sound great that I can’t use because they’re soy…
