As You Wish

As You Wish by Cary Elwes is $1.99! This is a memoir about the making of The Princess Bride, which is a movie that many love (including myself). Readers say the nostalgia-factor is high and there’s even some discussion regarding Andre the Giant’s epic farts. However, some readers mention that the writing was a bit stilted at times.
From actor Cary Elwes, who played the iconic role of Westley in The Princess Bride, comes a first-person account and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic film filled with never-before-told stories, exclusive photographs, and interviews with costars Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Mandy Patinkin, as well as author and screenwriter William Goldman, producer Norman Lear, and director Rob Reiner.
The Princess Bride has been a family favorite for close to three decades. Ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top 100 Greatest Love Stories and by the Writers Guild of America as one of the top 100 screenplays of all time, The Princess Bride will continue to resonate with audiences for years to come.
Cary Elwes was inspired to share his memories and give fans an unprecedented look into the creation of the film while participating in the twenty-fifth anniversary cast reunion. In As You Wish he has created an enchanting experience; in addition to never-before seen photos and interviews with his fellow cast mates, there are plenty of set secrets, backstage stories, and answers to lingering questions about off-screen romances that have plagued fans for years!
With a foreword by Rob Reiner and a limited edition original poster by acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey, As You Wish is a must-have for all fans of this beloved film.

Twice as Wicked by Elizabeth Bright is 99c! This is a historical romance and features a heroine out for revenge. I believe this was Bright’s debut romance and many readers thought it was a great start. That being said, some found the ending a bit rushed. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.
Miss Alice Bursnell is determined to wreak revenge on Nathaniel Eastwood, Viscount Abingdon, for the seduction, ruin, and death of her beloved twin sister. But how to expose a seducer without falling prey herself? As she gets closer to Nathaniel, she finds she is in serious danger of following in her sister’s much-too-tempted footsteps. The man is nothing like the heartless rake she expected…and his kisses are truly divine. Could she be wrong about him?
When a mysterious and gorgeous woman confronts Nathaniel at a fancy ball, he suspects she has murder on her mind—his own. But the more he tries to determine who the deceptively innocent beauty is—and what she’s up to—the deeper he falls under her alluring spell. Nathaniel fears he’s in imminent danger of losing his life…or worse, his heart.

Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale is 99c! This is the second book in the Medieval Hearts series. This book was a topic of discussion in a podcast episode with Emily Nagoski. Nagoski warns that there is rape in the romance novel, but says it does a wonderful job handling rage and shame. Definitely check out the podcast, or at least the transcript!
A fatally dangerous man—and the woman who stands in the way of all he has ever desired . . . Beautiful and ruthless, the elegant assassin Allegreto will stop at nothing to regain his rightful place. And the perfect instrument has just fallen into his hands, in the lovely form of Lady Elena—the long‑lost princess of the land he intends to wrest back from his enemies.
But she is no mere maiden to be possessed. Even as he forces her to bend to his will, in the heat of desire and fury Elena finds the hidden power in her own soul, a merciless passion and command that will bring her dark lover to his knees. Her mastery may destroy him . . . or build an unexpected future from the bitter ashes of his life and dreams.

Everything She Ever Wanted by Liz Durano is $2.99! This a forced proximity romance with an older heroine! The second book in the series (also a standalone) has a secret baby plot. So lots of catnip going on. Some readers found they couldn’t connect with the characters. Others loved the pairing of a nerdy doctor heroine and a bearded, carpenter hero.
She’s smart, independent, and heartbroken. He’s gorgeous, a bit rough around the edges, and too young..
But when a scheduling mistake lands them in the same place at the same time, can their fling turn into the real thing?
When her husband leaves her for a younger woman, transplant surgeon Harlow James finds herself alone, without family, and barely a career. So she trades the bright lights of Manhattan for the open road and ends up at the Pearl, a sustainable home outside of Taos, New Mexico where she hopes to find out where she went wrong.
Instead, she finds the perfect man.
Too bad he’s too young for her…
Set amidst the enchanting landscape of Taos, New Mexico, Everything She Ever Wanted is a contemporary romance that explores one woman’s search for the things that really matter, like love and family, and where losing her way turns out to be the best prescription to finding herself – and falling in love – again.

Why is the name “Harlow” popping up everywhere?
Also, I strongly recommend the audiobook of As You Wish – there are interviews with different people involved with the movie and Cary Elwes has such a nice voice.
What @Emily said. The audiobook of As You Wish is such a feel-good listen! *warm fuzzies all over the place*
Doctor heroine, younger man? Had to one click! Hope it’s as good as the reviews.
Yeah, I’m with you @Vicki. I’m going to have to one click Everything She Ever Wanted. Fingers crossed!
Shadowheart. I loved Shadowheart
@Emily: Harlow has been trendy for the last few years, starting with Nichole Richie naming her kid that. I constantly misread it as Harlot.
OMG, I just downloaded the sample for Everything She Ever Wanted, and TRIGGER WARNING in first few pages for attempted suicide.
I just devoured Twice as Wicked and went looking for more from Elizabeth Bright, but there is no more yet I guess. Rats!
@NanH, I did exactly the same thing!
I constantly misread it as Harlot.
“The T is silent, as in ‘Harlow’.” If you’ve forgotten the story, see quoteinvestigator dot com.
