RECOMMENDED: The Dream-Quest of Vellit Boe by Kij Johnson is $1.99! This is more of a novella, so fair warning. However, Carrie really loved this and it earned an A grade:
This book is a wonderful story even if the reader doesn’t get the Lovecraft references. With them, it’s marvelously subversive as well as poetic and entertaining. I loved this book because of the wonderful, elegant language and the evocative lands through which Vellitt travels. I also loved it because it’s rare to find a story in which an older woman goes on adventures.
Professor Vellitt Boe teaches at the prestigious Ulthar Women’s College. When one of her most gifted students elopes with a dreamer from the waking world, Vellitt must retrieve her.
But the journey sends her on a quest across the Dreamlands and into her own mysterious past, where some secrets were never meant to surface.

My One True Highlander by Suzanne Enoch is $1.99! This is the second book in the No Ordinary Hero series, but can be read on its own. The heroine is kidnapped by the hero’s brother and I’m hoping he spends most of the book trying to make it up to her. Some readers wished the romance was stronger, but loved the hero’s interactions with his family.

Madame’s Deception by Renee Bernard is $1.99! This is a historical romance with a heroine who finds out her mother runs a famous bordello. Readers say that the book has 10lbs of plot in a 5lb bag, so there’s too much going on. But many really enjoyed the heroine. This is the second book in the Mistress Trilogy, though it can be read as standalone.

I liked Dream-Quest a lot, but if I was buying just one it would unquestionably be Martha Wells’ All Systems Red.
