Best 2017 Books on Sale: Dragons & Contemporary Romances

NB: This week, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite and our most popular pieces of writing this year. We’ve got a week of best-of posts to share, with reviews, cover snark, sales, and more. We hope you enjoy this saunter through the archives, and most of all, we wish you and yours a wonderful holiday and a happy new year – with all the very best of reading.

A note that both Sarah and I will be traveling during the holidays, so we’re recapping the best sales of the year. To pick these books, we check how many we’ve sold via the site and if a discount is still valid. While the book may not be listed at the same discount, we will still include books that are listed at $3.99 or less!

If a sale is no longer valid by the time the posts go live, we apologize for the inconvenience and we hope you’ll keep an eye out for those books in future sale posts.

  • Zero to Sixty

Zero to Sixty by Marie Harte

Zero to Sixty by Marie Harte is 99c! This is a contemporary romance with a lonely mechanic hero. There’s also an adorable stray dog named Cookie. This can definitely be read as a standalone, but some found the hero a little too gruff for their liking. For the most part, I’ve enjoyed this series

BAD BOY SAM + GOOD GIRL IVY =
    LEARNING TO LOVE AGAIN

After her last disaster of a relationship, Ivy Stephens is content being single. She has her job, her apartment-and the cute little puppy she’s seen hanging around. When he escapes, she finds her search efforts aided by a big, burly, devastatingly handsome man. One who claims a prior claim on her dog.

Sam Hamilton is at loose ends since his best friend fell in love. He finds a sense of purpose in rescuing strays. The puppy who’s stolen his heart just happens to run into blond, beautiful Ivy. And Sam can’t help hoping she’ll take in one more stray-him-for good.

  • His Majesty’s Dragon

His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik

RECOMMENDEDHis Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik is $2.99! Carrie mentioned she started reading this in a previous Whatcha Reading and there were many comments about how great this book is. We also have an early review of this book by Candy, who says it’s “utterly goddamn awesome.”

Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors ride mighty fighting dragons, bred for size or speed. When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes the precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Captain Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future – and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature.

Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire.

  • By Her Touch

By Her Touch by Adriana Anders

By Her Touch by Adriana Anders is 99c! This is the second book in the Blank Canvas series. The first one, Under Her Skin, ( A | BN | K | G | iB) is 99c and we featured it earlier this week. I can’t recommend it enough. Fair warning that these romances on the darker side and feature abusive backstories. I was halfway through Under Her Skin when I bought By Her Touch. If you like angsty characters trying to rebuild their lives, check out this series.

He Will Always Bear the Scars

Undercover cop Clay Navarro left the Sultans biker gang a changed man. Its ringleaders may be awaiting trial, but he wears the memory of every brutal act he was forced to commit tattooed across his skin. He doesn’t have space in his messed-up life for anything gentle–not now, maybe not ever.

Dr. Georgette Hadley is drawn to the damaged stranger’s pain, intimidated but intrigued by the warmth that lies beneath Clay’s frightening exterior. But when the Sultans return looking for revenge, she finds herself drawn into the dirty underbelly of a life forged in violence…that not even her touch may be able to heal.

  • All I Am

All I Am by Nicole Helm

All I Am by Nicole Helm is $3.49! This is the second book in the Farmers’ Market Storyseries. The hero is a shy, reclusive veteran who makes doggie treats, and the heroine is more sexually experienced than he his. I bought this one when we’ve previously featured it on sale.

Everything she is. Everything he’s not…

Recovering from his time in Afghanistan, Wes Stone prefers the company of his dogs and himself. People, especially of the female variety, are…difficult. He appreciates that Cara Pruitt doesn’t treat him like an invalid, but hiring the party girl of New Benton to help out with his dog treat business is probably a mistake. And when her brightness and unexpected vulnerability somehow slip through his defenses, suddenly something terrifying is ignited inside him. Something thrilling. Something that could make Wes whole again…or consume him completely.

  6. CelineB says:

Amazon is giving a $5 ebook credit to eligible customers good through 12/31. I have no idea how they determine who is eligible, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, but I was this time. Here’s a link to see if you qualify:

    https://slickdeals.net/f/10979079-5-kindle-ebook-credit-free-eligible-accounts

  7. CelineB says:

I believe that credit in the link above is only good for ebooks sold through Amazon Digital Services, so not the big publishers, but check the terms to make sure.

  8. Ren Benton says:

The Stone Sky (Broken Earth #3) by N.K. Jemisin is $4.99 as of December 30. Price drop provided the incentive my cheap ass needed to pay full price for The Obelisk Gate (Book 2). I know what I’m glomming in the new year…

Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History is $1.99. Truly, this is THE BEST topic for dinner conversation if you never want to see your dining companion(s) again. Racist uncle spouting off at the reunion, date giving you creeper vibes, or simply over the monthly socialization limit on your introvert plan? Cannibalism to the rescue.

  9. Heather S says:

“Provenance” by Ann Leckie is a KDD for $2.99 today.
